CNN —The United States has returned more than 1,400 looted artifacts worth $10 million to India as part of an ongoing initiative to repatriate stolen art from countries across South and Southeast Asia, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office announced Wednesday. The trafficked goods recovered include items that, until recently, were on view at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The DA’s office obtained an arrest warrant for him in 2012though he remains in custody in India, pending his extradition to the US. TOKYO — An American tourist has been arrested in Japan for allegedly carving letters into a pillar of a gate to a shrine in Tokyo. Hayes, a U.S. citizen, had “carved alphabet letters onto a pillar of a gate of a shrine” in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo on Tuesday, police said. The Japan Times reported that the letters were carved into a wooden pillar of a traditional entrance, known as a torii gate, at the Meiji Shrine. Torii gates are iconic structures that mark the boundary between the everyday and the sacred at Shinto shrines across Japan. Last year, a tourist was arrested after being caught on video defacing the wall of the colosseum in Rome by carving a love note into it.

My husband and I rent an apartment on the northern coast of California and own a home in Mexico. We live in Mexico's Guanajuato part of the year and love its walkability and vibrancy. Bank of America sees Amazon' s discount storefront offering as a beneficial tool in fending off Temu and Shein. The e-commerce giant launched its Haul platform on the Amazon app, exclusively featuring products under $20. Bank of America analyst Justin Post said Temu and Shein's growth over the past year created a headwind of 1 percentage point for Amazon, according to an analysis of Bloomberg Second Measure data. Amazon's new offering comes as retailers have tried to compete with Temu and Shein, which are known for their low price tags. He said Amazon and these other companies could face obstacles if President-elect Donald Trump's proposed tariffs on imports come to fruition.
