Caroline Ellison, the star witness in the prosecution of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, reported to a low-security federal prison in Connecticut on Thursday, according to a spokesman for the Bureau of Prisons. The federal Probation Department had recommended that Judge Lewis Kaplan sentence Ellison to three years of supervised release, with no time behind bars. Kaplan allowed Ellison to remain free on bail until surrendering to prison either on or after Nov. 7. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison in March and also was ordered to pay $11 billion in forfeiture by Kaplan. Both Bankman-Fried and Ellison had faced the same statutory maximum sentence of about 110 years in prison for their crimes.

CNN —While Florida generally makes it challenging for people in the state with felony convictions to regain their voting rights, former President Donald Trump will have no issue casting a ballot for himself today in Palm Beach. The first former US president convicted of a felony, Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on November 26. Under Florida law, if a voter has an out-of-state conviction, Florida will defer to that state’s laws for how a felon can regain his or her voting rights. For other Floridians with felony convictions, the rules are not so simple. A successful 2018 ballot initiative restoring voting rights to those who had completed the terms of their sentence was gutted by state Republican lawmakers.

The bankruptcy affects TGI Fridays’ parent company, which operates 39 restaurants, and not the franchisees that control the remaining locations. TGI Fridays is privately owned by TriArtisan Capital Advisors, a private equity firm, so financial results aren’t released. In September, TGI Fridays’ operations in the United Kingdom also ran into trouble. (CNN) — A New York woman has been indicted on hate crime charges after allegedly pepper-spraying a Muslim Uber driver while he was praying, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Jennifer Guilbeault, 23, was indicted on multiple hate crime charges on Monday after allegedly pepper-spraying a 45-year-old Uber driver while he began praying in Arabic, according to a press release from the prosecutor. “As alleged, Jennifer Guilbeault senselessly assaulted a Muslim Uber driver while he was just doing his job. Everyone is welcome to live and work in Manhattan,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The charges against Guilbeault include one count each of Assault in the Second Degree as a Hate Crime, Assault in the Third Degree as a Hate Crime and Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree.
