As a public-speaking coach who has worked with many executives and senior teams, I know how to make work presentations more engaging. AdvertisementInstead, try to capture their attentionBegin your presentation with a hook or a story — something that grabs their attention right from the start. You could also try to form a personal connectionOften, presentations lack a personal touch. This not only makes your work presentation more relatable but also helps to establish a deeper connection with your audience. AdvertisementTry to encourage interactionAt the very least, you should try to engage your audience from the beginning — whether in person or on virtual calls.

Here are 11 little life changes that highly successful people practice every day:1. To encourage trial and error, set a goal for the minimum number of mistakes you want to make per day or per week. Listen to the coaches who have relevant expertise (credibility), know you well (familiarity), and want what's best for you (care). The best way to learn something is to teach it. You understand it better after you explain it — and you remember it better after you take the time to recall it.

In case you haven’t followed the actors’ strike, the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA are negotiating revenue sharing and policies around use of artificial intelligence (AI), among other items. I’m fortunate to have enough success acting full time that I’ve been able to pay my bills and acquire health insurance. Prior to the advent of streaming, actors like me relied on residuals paid out based on how often we appeared in a show and how successful it was. In short, actors work much more to make ends meet and still sometimes find ourselves earning less. When streaming first showed up, it had a lot of work to do to draw and maintain audiences.

As the all-powerful ruler of oil-rich Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba had two passions, music and forests, that forged powerful ties across the world. An accomplished musician, Mr. Bongo recorded a disco-funk album and lured James Brown and Michael Jackson to Gabon. As president, he built a music studio at his seaside palace and played improv jazz to foreign diplomats at state dinners. More recently, Mr. Bongo allied with Western scientists and conservationists, entranced by both the paradisiacal beauty of Gabon, an Arizona-sized country covered in lush rainforest and teeming with wildlife, and by his commitment to protecting it. But to his own people, Mr. Bongo, 64, embodied a family dynasty, founded by his father, which had dominated Gabon for 56 years — until this week, when it came crashing down.

His company switched to a four-day workweek and saw an increase in revenue. I'd heard about companies, particularly in the UK, experimenting with a four-day workweek, and it made a lot of sense to me. A condensed workweek can be more intenseWe heard from employees that they loved the four-day workweek and never wanted to go back to the old way. If you want to try a four-day workweek at your company, here's my advice:Don't jump in feet first without a preliminary test. If your company's compensation is tied to time, a four-day workweek will be less successful.

Of all the great flesh-and-blood cartoons of 1980s popular culture — Hulk Hogan, Madonna, Mr. T — the one easiest for small children to relate to was Pee-wee Herman. In reality, Pee-wee Herman was nothing like us at all, a dreamy man-child in a red bow tie whose sugary smile could curl into a punky scowl. A singular piece of comic performance art for a mass audience, Pee-wee Herman stood out in every form he appeared in, whether improv theaters, late-night talk shows, the movies or Saturday morning television. The world of Pee-wee is full of this loopy surrealism that could veer into innuendo but never got dark. It was always welcoming, wildly diverse, profoundly silly.

"We believe that many more Gino-authored papers contain fake data," the Data Colada professors wrote. Data Colada found that the raw data showed clear anomalies, such as a distribution infinitely more likely to be produced by a random-number generator than actual people. Soon after, Data Colada ran an article alleging that Gino tampered with data in at least one of her honesty-pledge experiments. A post on Data Colada or a tweet from Brown is like a bomb going off in the behavioral-science world. Others who attempted to build on Gino's studies are grappling with having wasted time, money, and energy.

The comedian Paul Reubens, a.k.a. Though Pinky Lee is an unfamiliar name today, it would not have been to a man of Mr. Reubens’s generation. Pee-wee Herman was born Paul Rubenfeld in 1952 in Peekskill, NY; Mr. Lee was born Pincus Leff in 1907 in Saint Paul, Minn. Rubenfeld, who was a talented child actor, would rename himself Reubens and become an improv comic. His early work with the The Groundlings in Los Angeles, notably in a Pinky parody skit, would eventually form the basis for one of the more indelible characters in show business. Mr. Lee came up through the ranks as a tap dancer on the vaudeville circuit.

Like foil-tray frozen meals, which were used by airlines before Swanson branded them as “TV dinners,” Twitter was not initially invented to be an adjunct to the tube. It made the entire world into an improv “Mystery Science Theater.”There were, of course, many Twitters existing in parallel: Politics Twitter, Sports Twitter, Black Twitter, Weird Twitter. Twitter made the watch party global.

She has done hundreds of interviews throughout her career, and as a seasoned improv actress, is known to be quick on her feet and sharply funny. Oftentimes the consequence of being a reliable, effective worker is … more work. And, while the reputation of being productive is generally a good thing, even the most organized, go-getter can't do it all. If your boss consistently asks you to take on tasks for which you don't have the bandwidth, it's okay to say "no" sometimes, says Brandon Smith, a therapist and career coach known as The Workplace Therapist. Denying a request from a person who has some control of your income is understandably nerve wracking. "You always want to treat a boss like the number one client or customer," Smith says.
Before he was an Emmy-winning actor for his critically acclaimed "Barry," Bill Hader struggled to get the career he wanted. Instead, it's been a matter of being in the right place at the right time. In a recent interview with the New Yorker, Hader recalls how he moved to Los Angles in 1999 with aspirations of one day being a director. He spent most of his 20s working as a production assistant, a postproduction assistant and then as an assistant editor on a reality TV show. The "Superbad" actor decided to take improv classes on the recommendation of a friend, and quickly saw his fortunes turn around.
