CNN —A federal judge granted Idaho serial killer Thomas Creech a stay of execution just one week before he was scheduled to be put to death, months after he survived a botched execution.
They also argued Creech was left traumatized after an execution team made eight attempts to start the IV line.
On Wednesday, Judge G. Murray Snow granted Creech a reprieve, as the Idaho Supreme Court decision denying his claims came about a week before his scheduled execution.
Creech is now required to file a supplemental brief by Friday, court documents say, and his case will continue.
In the execution chamber, “the team attempted eight times through multiple limbs and appendages to establish IV access consistent with” the department’s policy, Tewalt said.

Prosecutors have said in court filings that four aggravating factors exist in the case against Kohberger, who turns 30 later this month, making the crime more severe and the death penalty warranted.
In another filing last month, Logsdon countered the state's claim that a "future dangerousness" aggravator exists in Kohberger's case.
"Aggravators are intended for deciding which First Degree Murderers merit the death penalty.
The death penalty in Idaho, while it remains on the books, had lapsed as its last execution was in 2012; the state, like many others, has had trouble procuring lethal injection drugs.
But the state abandoned the execution after prison staff failed to establish an IV line, exposing the difficulties with administering the death penalty.

Outside of the eight states with the ballot measures, certain cities and municipalities in three states, as well as Washington, D.C., have allowed noncitizens to vote in some local elections.
Supporters of the ballot measures have argued that they are a way to get ahead of any potential problems related to noncitizen voting.
Passage of the amendments marks the latest chapter of Republican's ongoing efforts to put unfounded claims of noncitizen voting at the center of a broader political strategy.
Former President Donald Trump has long made false claims that noncitizen voting is resulting in widespread fraud and that Democrats have helped migrants enter the country to cast those ballots.
The Republican National Committee’s election integrity campaign also highlighted noncitizen voting as a danger that it warned could be a source of widespread fraud in the 2024 election.

But then there are voters who say former President Donald Trump lacks the character or demeanor a president should have.
And some specifically panned the the racist and demeaning rhetoric from Trump allies at last week's rally at Madison Square Garden, criticizing them for alienating Americans instead of bringing them together.
Other voters derisively mentioned Harris' laughter, called Trump more "transparent in what he's looking to do," and cited their support for Trump economic policies like tariffs and not taxing overtime pay.
For the Harris supporters who briefly, seriously, considered Trump, the former president's tone and demeanor looms large.
Again, a handful of voters brought up the rally comments about Puerto Ricans when voters describing something that made them view Trump more negatively.

Ninety people in 13 states have been infected in a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday, as it continues to investigate the source of the spread.
Before Wednesday, the CDC last gave an update on the outbreak on Friday, when the agency said it had 75 cases in 13 states.
Fresh slivered onions served on Quarter Pounders and other menu items at McDonald's are "the likely source of this outbreak," the CDC said on its website on Wednesday.
The CDC believes the risk to the public is "very low" due to the efforts from McDonald's and Taylor Farms.
Quarter Pounder hamburgers are a core menu item for McDonald's, raking in billions of dollars each year.
