Nebraska’s Dan Osborn is returning to work Tuesday as a steamfitter after his unsuccessful Senate run, but his political career isn’t over. Osborn, who ran as an independent, is launching a political action committee, called the Working Class Heroes Fund, to support working-class candidates of all parties. And he isn’t ruling out another run for office after his loss to GOP Sen. Deb Fischer. Osborn said his PAC will support candidates of any party, and he said he didn’t expect to have many policy litmus tests, apart from supporting campaign finance overhaul and rejecting corporate donations. His Senate campaign raised $7.9 million through mid-October, according to the latest campaign finance reports, and he said it ultimately raised more than $14 million.

The family of a 30-year-old Hawaii resident is searching for her in Los Angeles after she missed a connecting flight, sent unusual text messages and then went silent, the relatives said. The next day, she sent concerning text messages to loved ones, family members said. The three were part of a larger group of family members and loved ones who gathered in Los Angeles in recent days to launch a search effort. Family members said they couldn't speak about it in detail because they don't want to hinder investigators. The group gathered in Los Angeles is focusing its own search on the intersection of Pico Boulevard and Hill Street, near the Convention Center, LA Live and Crypto Arena, family members said.

CNN —Doing more aerobic exercise in middle age and old age may reduce the risk of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, a new study found. Without effort, however, cardiorespiratory fitness declines as people age. “This study found a dose-dependent — meaning more was better — effect of exercise fitness on several critical types of cognitive performance,” Isaacson said. Biking, running, jogging, swimming, hiking and briskly walking can all improve cardiorespiratory fitness, experts say. The study showed that people with high cardiorespiratory fitness were more likely to take care of themselves, and therefore protect the heart-brain connection.

CNN —An anonymous male celebrity says he is the victim of an extortion scheme and is suing a high-powered Texas attorney who is representing several people in civil lawsuits that accuse Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexual assault. Buzbee has said he is representing at least 120 alleged victims of Combs. The lawsuit filed by the anonymous celebrity claims that Buzbee’s firm is trying to capitalize off the “explosive allegations against Sean Combs” by roping in public figures who have been acquainted with Combs. In an interview with CNN last month, Buzbee explained that his firm initially files cases anonymously in an effort to protect the safety of his clients. “It is a cynical extortion scheme that is dressed up in vindicating victims of actual sexual abuse,” the lawsuit states.

Members of the Hispanic and LGBTQ communities are being targeted with these kinds of disturbing text messages by people hiding behind anonymous phone numbers. Now, authorities are investigating cases in which other groups of people are reportedly getting text messages saying they have been "selected for deportation or to report to a re-education camp." The language of the text messages sent to these students were not identical, but they all referenced deportations and actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE does not send "random text messages to people," the spokesperson said in a phone interview. "Sending text messages in the blind is not how us Immigration Customs Enforcement operates.

WASHINGTON — Congress faces a Dec. 20 deadline to fund the government and avert a shutdown, and Speaker Mike Johnson says House Republicans will probably push the fight into early 2025 rather than reach a full-year funding deal this year. Government funding legislation is subject to the 60-vote threshold in the Senate, which top Republicans have promised to preserve. CNN —Tottenham Hotspur player Rodrigo Bentancur has been given a seven-match domestic suspension and fined around $126,000 (£100,000) for a comment he made in an interview about teammate Son Heung-min. According to the FA, the midfielder acted in “an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or brought the game into disrepute” with the comment, which was judged to be an “aggravated breach” of FA regulations because it made reference to Son’s ethnicity. In June, soon after the video clip was circulated online, Son said that Bentancur had apologized for making a “mistake,” adding that his teammate “would not mean to ever intentionally say something offensive. He will be eligible to play again against Nottingham Forest on December 26, as well as in Europa League games. CNN —It’s been more than a week since Hannah Kobayashi missed a flight connection in Los Angeles. Kobayashi was traveling from Maui, Hawaii, to New York and had a connecting flight at Los Angeles International Airport, her sister, Sydni, told CNN by phone Monday. Hannah used words like “hun,” “love” and “babe.”“I personally don’t think that was my sister,” Sydni said. Both chambers usually gavel in for pro forma sessions even during times of recess specifically to prevent the president from making recess appointments and bypassing congressional approval. President Barack Obama once tried to use recess appointments and was rebuked by the Supreme Court, which said in 2014 that recesses needed to be 10 days or longer for recess appointments to be legal. New York CNN —Top pollster J. Ann Selzer will retire from the Des Moines Register’s famed Iowa Poll and the survey will “evolve” after it failed to accurately capture former President Donald Trump’s strong support in the 2024 election, resulting in a 16-point miss. Trump ultimately swept to victory over Harris in the state by a 13-point margin, winning the actual vote 56-43%. Prior to the 2024 survey, the Iowa Poll under her stewardship had been considered by many to be the methodological gold standard. As of June 2024, election forecaster Nate Silver gave Selzer an A+ rating. In an op-ed for the Register, Selzer said that her decision to part ways with the poll predated the erroneous results.
