ULSAN, South Korea, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS) on Monday broke ground on a 2 trillion won ($1.52 billion) dedicated electric vehicle (EV) plant in South Korea, as the automaker accelerate a shift to electrification. Hyundai Motor Group, which encompasses Hyundai Motor, Kia and Genesis brands, said in April it plans to launch 31 EVs by 2030. Hyundai Motor Group's Executive Chair Euisun Chung, Hyundai Motor's Chief Executive Officer and other officials, including the Ulsan Metropolitan City Mayor, attended the event to witness the ground breaking of the EV factory, the automaker's first new plant in South Korea in 29 years. The groundbreaking comes after Hyundai Motor said it would stick to its EV rollout plans - a contrast to some rivals that have pulled back on EV production due to cooling demand. Last year, Hyundai Motor Group broke ground on a $5.54 billion EV and battery plants in the U.S. state of Georgia.

A year has passed since Hyundai Motor Group broke ground on the $7.6 billion vehicle and battery plant, the South Korean automaker's first U.S. factory dedicated to producing EVs. The plant is being built parallel to Interstate 16 on a site that covers more than 2,900 acres (1,170 hectares). Tollison said suppliers opening shop in nine Georgia counties near the Hyundai plant will create another 6,000 jobs. It’s the largest economic development project in Georgia’s history. Pat Wilson, Georgia’s economic development commissioner, has said Hyundai is projected to have a direct payroll of $4.7 billion over the next 10 years.

REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSEOUL, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS) said on Thursday it has decided to adopt Tesla Inc's (TSLA.O) electric vehicle (EV) charging technology in the United States and Canada. That will give Hyundai EVs with NACS ports access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the company said. Owners of existing and future Hyundai EVs with the current CCS will have access to the Tesla Supercharging Network starting in the first quarter of 2025. Associated Press calculations show projected incentives will rise by more than $290 million from the $1.8 billion deal originally announced last year. The deal calls for Hyundai and battery maker LG Energy Solution to invest $7.6 billion in the Georgia plant and hire 8,500 workers by the end of 2031. It’s the largest economic development deal in Georgia history, and comes with the largest incentive package. If Hyundai didn't owe that much state corporate income tax, Georgia would instead give the company personal income taxes collected from Hyundai workers. The deal requires Hyundai to pay back a portion of the incentives if the company falls below 80% of promised investment or employment.

The lawsuits come after thousands of Hyundai and Kia thefts that use a method popularized on TikTok and other social media channels. The cities suing Kia and Hyundai include New York, Cleveland, San Diego, Milwaukee, Columbus and Seattle. Kia and Hyundai vehicles represent a large share of stolen cars in many U.S. cities, according to data from police and state officials. SEOUL, Aug 25 (Reuters) - Hyundai Motor's (005380.KS) unionised workers in South Korea on Friday vote on whether to hold a strike after two months of talks with the company over wage increase and extension of the retirement age stalled last week. If the union stages a strike, it would mark the first such action in five years related to wage negotiations at the South Korean carmaker, and could disrupt delivery of some popular vehicles which Hyundai has been struggling to ramp up due to prolonged component shortages. The voting result is expected at around 6 p.m. (0900 GMT), a union official at Hyundai Motor told Reuters, adding that the union will continue working-level negotiations with the management regardless of the vote. "South Korea has relatively low pension replacement rates, compared to other advanced countries in Europe. Unionised workers at Hyundai in South Korea held a four-hour strike for one day in July in support of its umbrella union's general strike, but it was not related to the union's wage negotiations with the management.

CNN —Thanks to a combination of new models, more production and new tax laws, electric vehicles are no longer just for the wealthy. Currently the “days supply” of electric vehicles – a measure of the number units on dealer lots relative to how quickly they sell – is now twice that of new vehicles overall. The biggest bargain among electric vehicles currently, whether you lease or buy, happens to be one that’s going away soon. The Bolt does not align with GM's long-term EV technology strategy, but it is the Detroit automaker's best-selling and most affordable EV in North America, by far. Barra and GM officials did not say how much the new Bolt would cost or where it would be built. For GM, the Bolt has been the mainstay for its North American EV sales. In the first six months of this year, U.S. Bolt sales totaled 33,659 vehicles, outselling Ford's Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai's Ioniq 5 and other EVs from established automakers. Bolt sales rebounded this year after GM was forced to halt production of the car for nearly six months to fix problems linked to battery fires.

Some car companies think that fake engine noises will get drivers to consider going electric. Hyundai and Dodge have both unveiled EVs that blast fake exhaust noises outside the car. Electric cars are inherently quiet. Last year, the brand showed off an electric concept car with a multi-speed transmission and a phony exhaust sound that mimics a supercharged V8 engine.
