Marc Atkins/Getty ImagesAt the heart of this is a failure in communication by match officials and a failure to put pragmatism before protocol. There is an acceptance that mistakes will happen, and there have been plenty already this season in the Premier League. The release of the audio of the conversations between the match officials would likely influence what Liverpool does next. In rugby union, fans can listen to discussions between match officials on crucial decisions, making the process clear and open for all. The immediate consequence has been that VAR officials England and Cook have not been selected to feature in this weekend’s Premier League games.

The Putin regime has leaned heavily on propaganda to rally support for its war in Ukraine. In doing so, it has come to rely on military bloggers to spread its message and back its efforts. Milbloggers also have become an indispensable tool for Western governments, think tanks, and media to track the Russian war effort. But the relationship between Putin and milbloggers illustrates the complexities of social media in an authoritarian state. Many milbloggers are ultra-nationalists with deep ties to the Russian military and intelligence agencies.

With 10-year Treasury yields at their highest since shortly before the financial crisis, it's a good time to add duration to your fixed income portfolio, according to Charles Schwab fixed income strategist Cooper Howard. "If I were a betting man, I think the odds favor moving lower rather than higher," Howard said. Even if there is more upside in yields ahead, Howard still thinks the risk/reward looks attractive on longer-term bonds right now. "This is why we still maintain a favorable view toward extending duration and view the 10-year Treasury yields above 4% as an opportunity to add duration exposure," Alvarado wrote.

Then, a deep dive into MrBeast and what his YouTube empire says about the future of the internet. Reddit came along and said, oh, we need to protect Reddit from the rise of these large language models. So I don’t think they’re totally out of the woods. But I don’t think people would say it was a golden age for how safe the platforms fell to use. But I want to challenge you on this, because I don’t necessarily think that it’s a bad thing if we have past peak trust and safety.

Google , Netflix , Meta , Apple , Amazon and Microsoft generate nearly half of all internet traffic today. Big Tech firms say this would amount to an "internet tax" that could undermine net neutrality. They bemoaned spending billions on laying cables and installing antennas to cope with rising internet demand without corresponding investments from Big Tech. One suggestion is to require individual bargaining deals with the Big Tech firms, similar to Australian licensing models between news publishers and internet platforms. "The imbalance is not down to Big Tech, it's not down to streamers, and it's not down to telcos.
"We have not completed the deployment of 5G yet," Ha Min Yong, chief development officer of SK Telecom , told CNBC last week. However, after hundreds of billions of dollars of investment into 5G networks, carriers have struggled to see the return. I don't see any use cases today that we can't do with 5G or its immediate evolutions," Watson told CNBC last week. Many of the current 5G networks are built on top of equipment and technology from 4G. There will also be more software that powers 5G networks helping with efficiency such as the management of data traffic.

Feb 12 (Reuters) - Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decisions that went against Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion in Saturday's Premier League matches were down to "human error", the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) said on Sunday. Across London, Brighton & Hove Albion saw their quest for European football hit a speed bump at Crystal Palace when they were held to a 1-1 draw but Pervis Estupinan's goal was wrongly chalked off for offside. "PGMOL can confirm its Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb has contacted both Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to acknowledge and explain the significant errors in the VAR process in their respective Premier League fixtures on Saturday," it said on Sunday. "Both incidents, which were due to human error and related to the analysis of offside situations, are being thoroughly reviewed by PGMOL." Webb, a former Premier League referee, became the Chief Refereeing Officer at the PGMOL this season.

This matters for companies, in part because more engaged workers are linked to things businesses want — things like productivity and profitability. Employees who feel supported by their bosses are also more likely to feel happier and less likely to have chronic health conditions. The takeaway for managers is clear: Connect each employee's work to the company's larger purpose. Empathy also plays a big role in making workers feel more engaged at work. Business-leadership researchers at McKinsey & Co. said in a 2021 report that more managers needed to prioritize mental health.
Turning side projects into stand-alone businesses or full-time occupations can be difficult or even impossible for chief marketing officers, whose jobs have become increasingly demanding and complex. “I loved the idea of Paris, especially as a place that I might someday pluck up the courage to start the company,” said Ms. Howard. Dashlane was unaware that Ms. Howard was developing a new company until she announced her resignation, she said. Soon after he left the soft-drink giant, Mr. Cottrill received a call from industry veteran Gary Koepke. New ideas, new challengesWorking on side projects has helped marketers develop different skill-sets and, in some cases, explore new careers.

Brooks was fatally shot by an officer amid national unrest over police brutality after a Minneapolis police officer murdered George Floyd. Two officers located Brooks and bodycam footage showed they had a calm conversation with him for almost 40 minutes. For decades doctors have been telling their patients that high levels of HDL, otherwise known as “good cholesterol,” could protect them from heart disease. But a new study suggests that having a lot of so-called good cholesterol doesn’t mean a lower risk of heart attacks. The new findings surprised the researchers, who originally designed their study to understand how cholesterol levels in Black and white middle-aged adults without heart disease affected their future risks. Previous research on "good" cholesterol and heart disease consisted of mostly white adults. Low HDL levels were associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease in white participants, but not Black participants.
