Fyre Festival is set to return for round two next spring, this time on a privately owned island off Mexico. McFarland said he hopes to gather 3,000 people for Fyre Fest II, scheduled for April 25-28. Whereas he gave himself only six months from the idea for the first Fyre Fest to its attempted execution, McFarland said, he has spent a full year working on Fyre Fest II, with more than seven months to go. The first iteration of Fyre Fest promised ticket buyers luxury villas and gourmet food at what was supposed to be an extravagant music festival in the Bahamas. In August 2023, the first drop of 100 presale tickets for Fyre Fest II (at $499 apiece) sold out within a day, even though its website at the time offered no lineup, no specific location and no details about accommodations.

During my three-day visit in August, I stayed at a tiny home by Tiny Away for one night. AdvertisementLaunched by a Singaporean tiny home startup called Big Tiny in May 2023, Tiny Away features five tiny houses that measure around 139 square feet each — or slightly smaller than an average parking space. Tiny Away is currently the only option for those who want to try tiny house living without going abroad. For one, there's a glamping resort on Lazarus Island that offers stays for a similar price to Tiny Away. But Tiny Away strikes me as ideal for guests looking for some solitude or a chance to experience the city-state minus all the high rises.

As they got older, I would give them a packing list and we'd pack things together. Our hotels were booked, but we had to figure out activities, meals, and transportation. In Japan, for example, my son went shopping one afternoon, so I visited some temples. My younger son went fishing at the resort, my older son went shopping with some friends he met, and I went SUP. Who knew traveling with teens could be so much fun?

I earn some rewards through loyalty programs, but the bulk of my points and miles come from using a variety of credit cards. When researching the properties, he confirmed their tax status as short-term rentals on the county site. Jason Gobey, another short-term rental owner, told BI he researched and spoke to real-estate agents as well as others before buying his one-bedroom condo in Kihei in 2019. He also said he confirmed the property's tax status as a short-term rental and had no idea there could be an issue with it. Though some of the Minatoya List properties will likely be converted to long-term rentals, Church said it is not financially feasible for him. But the benefit of adding the Minatoya List properties to the housing stock is that they are already built.

New York CNN —Most of the 10,000 hotel workers who went on strike during the busy Labor Day weekend have returned to work Wednesday, but one group of 700 union members in San Diego will stay on strike for the foreseeable future. Those workers, employed at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, will remain on strike until there is a contract agreement, their union, Unite Here, says. The union has not ruled out using the same rolling strikes strategy this time, or expanding the strike to other locations. The strategy is intended to help workers keep as many days of pay as possible during a contract negotiation. Beyond the hotel workers, limited duration strikes have been used to win labor deals for school employees in Los Angeles, health care workers at Kaiser Permanente, janitors, nursing home employees and other workers in Minnesota who went on strike together in March.

Business Insider asked hotel employees about the red flags to look for when checking into a hotel. Advertisement"The driveway or parking lot will tell you if the hotel is busy," Jones said. "If you don't see the parking lot full or see many other people checking in, this may not be the right place to stay." A lack of response to pre-arrival inquiries is a major red flagLeon said every hotel experience begins well before check-in. "The public areas are used by everyone entering and leaving the hotel, so these areas should remain spotless," he said.

Many hotel chains are racing to replace the plastic room key with digital options, including Apple Wallet and Google Wallet apps. Plastic hotel key cards have had a rough few years. Cybersecurity and safety issues have prompted many hotel chains to accelerate plans to transform hotel room door locks. Power's research on hotels found that only 14% of total branded hotel guests used digital keys during their hotel stay. "Guests using 'digital key' provide significantly more positive ratings for safety of the hotel compared to those who did not use digital keys," Stokes said.

One host previously told BI he was charging $400. Travel experts say hosts have a lot to answer for in Airbnb's downfall. "Airbnb essentially allows anyone to sign up to be a host, which will always prove to be problematic," she told BI. Duncan Greenfield-Turk, the chief travel designer at Global Travel Moments, told BI that hosts had "without a doubt" played a big part in Airbnb's unpopularity. Hotels are making the most of the backlash by offering more personalized services and often matching or undercutting Airbnb prices.

In fiscal 2022 and 2023 combined, Disney's experiences unit, which houses the parks, generated 67.5% of the company's operating income. That represents a significant deceleration in growth from its first and second quarters, when operating income rose 8% and 12%, respectively. Nispel argued that negative sentiment around Disney's theme parks performance could be a reason to have less conviction on the stock in the near term. The more excitement around its movies, the more interest in everything from theme parks to streaming services to branded merchandise. Operating income, in particular, rose more than $350 million year over year to $254 million.

The biggest chunk – about $1.9 million – was spent by Trump’s campaign and fundraising committees on a Trump-owned company that operates his jet. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, said that “committees are paying the fair market rate for all venues and services” provided by Trump businesses. The dynamic of candidates shelling out thousands on Trump’s businesses while vying for his endorsement – which can make or break Republican campaigns – is an example of how politics has boosted his businesses’ bottom line. About 150 congressional candidates have reported spending campaign funds at Trump businesses, including some Democrats in the years before his first presidential bid. Walker’s campaign spent a total of nearly $215,000 at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club and his Las Vegas hotel.

New York CNN —CEOs of many of the biggest US hotel and travel companies are coming off a bit like doomsayers these days with their warnings about the declining health of consumers and their waning appetite for travel. Gary Hershorn/Getty ImagesMuch of the revenue growth that travel companies reported in recent years resulted from inflation, said David Tinsley, a senior economist at Bank of America Institute. “It was always going to be tough to expect travel spending to be showing the kind of momentum it showed 12 months ago,” he told CNN. “I don’t think the current situation is particularly bleak — it’s reasonable to see more normalization playing out,” he said, referring to travel spending getting back on par with pre-pandemic trends. Still, it’s not hard to see why this mixed picture is prompting travel companies to tread carefully.

North Korea will resume international tourism this winter, ending a COVID-era ban on travelers, according to operators that organize tours to the country. This undated picture released by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on November 28, 2016 shows North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un (C) standing among skiers in Samjiyun. The efforts could help North Korea with its economic recovery from the devastating impacts of the global pandemic. The only nationalities restricted from travel to North Korea as tourists are citizens of the Republic of Korea. It is likely that an opening of Samjiyon is aimed at attracting Chinese travelers, who constituted the majority of international tourists visiting North Korea before the pandemic.

This spring, the company unveiled plans for Pagani Residences, a 70-unit condo development in Miami's North Bay Village. Beyond automakers, there's a growing list of luxury brands hoping to use real estate to turn their cultural cachet into cold, hard cash. New York's five-star Sherry-Netherland Hotel began welcoming long-term residents almost a century ago, and since then roughly 700 branded residences have graced skylines around the world. But when it comes to branded residences, there are real selling points for buyers.
