CNN —The nominees for the 80th Golden Globe Awards were announced on Monday. Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva, two of the stars from “Lopez vs. Lopez,” announced the range of film and television nominees as selected by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Favored Oscars contender “The Banshees of Inisherin” led the film categories, with nominations including best musical or comedy film. It stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The ceremony, which was not broadcast last January over controversy surrounding the HFPA, will return to NBC on Jan. 10.
LOS ANGELES, Dec 12 (Reuters) - "Avatar: The Way of Water" and "Top Gun: Maverick" were named among the contenders for Golden Globe awards next month when the ceremony returns to television after a year off following a diversity and ethics scandal. CNN —The cliché about award shows is that it’s an honor just to be nominated. Having endeavored to address those issues on both fronts, the Globes are here again, although not everyone has embraced the event or the HFPA with open arms. "Avatar: The Way of Water" debuts Dec. 16. The steep decline in award-show viewing, exacerbated by the pandemic, hasn’t made studios or talent any less enthusiastic about earning such recognition. In that sense, however tarnished the Golden Globes might be, its example could be another factor that helps point the way for the Oscars when those nominations are unveiled in January.
CNN —Jerrod Carmichael has been named host of the 2023 Golden Globes. “We’re so excited to have Jerrod Carmichael host the historic 80th Golden Globe Awards. Most recently he made his directorial debut with “On the Count of Three,” in which he starred, along with Tiffany Haddish, J. The Globes ceremony set for January comes after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was marred with controversy. In September, when it was announced that the show would be returning to NBC, a press release at the time stated that it would be a one-year agreement.

(CNN) The Golden Globes are coming back to television. "We recognize the HFPA's commitment to ongoing change and look forward to welcoming back the Golden Globes to NBC for its landmark 80th Anniversary in January 2023," Frances Berwick, chairman of entertainment networks for NBCUniversal television and streaming, said in a statement. NBC had announced in 2021 that it would temporarily end a decades-long relationship and not carry the 2022 ceremony after controversy mounted over the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's lack of diversity and ethical questions related to financial benefits given to some members, such as a hotel stay in connection with an "Emily in Paris" junket. The HFPA has since been working to rebuild its reputation.
