The onshore yuan ticked 0.06% higher to 7.1199 per dollar, while its offshore counterpart rose 0.12% to 7.1282. Data on Thursday showed U.S. retail sales growth was higher than expected and the ECB cut interest rates by 25 basis points. "All of that has played in to a stronger dollar," said Jason Wong, senior strategist at BNZ in Wellington. The New Zealand dollar was similarly eyeing a 0.75% fall for the week and was little changed at $0.6063 in the Asia session. The U.S. dollar index hit a 2-1/2 month high of 103.87 on Thursday and is up nearly 0.8% forthe week thus far.

Slated to become the next leader of Macao, Sam Hou Fai wants to steer China's special administrative region further away from its heavy reliance on gaming and gambling. Formerly Macao's top judge, Sam was elected Macao's next leader in an uncontested vote on Sunday. In the lead-up to his selection, the 62-year-old identified the diversification of Macao as an urgent issue to address. He added he would consider creating public funds to promote the development of emerging industries outside gaming and gambling. However, that reliance backfired during the Covid-19 pandemic when the gambling and gaming industries took major hits from border closures and social distancing policies.

Federal prosecutor Hagan Scotten said they have evidence that Adams attempted to tamper with a witness in the investigation. The federal prosecutor revealed new information about the investigation, saying it began in the summer of 2021 before Adams became mayor. The additional defendants could be charged in a superseding indictment or in a separate case, Scotten added. The report didn't blow us away, but it still offered plenty of reminders on why Costco investors should stick around. Total revenue in its fiscal 2024 fourth quarter totaled $79.7 billion, missing analysts' expectations of $79.97 billion, according to estimates compiled by LSEG. Costco has succeeded for decades, but the high inflation of recent years has made the company's value-focused ethos really shine. Put it all together, we're increasing our price target on the stock to $950 a share from $875. In the quarter, Costco's membership renewal rate in the U.S. and Canada came in at 92.9%, a tick lower than the 93% rate observed in the third fiscal quarter, while worldwide held constant at 90.5%.

Seconds after that brief communication, the Titan was “pinged” for the last time, according to the opening presentation of the two-week hearing. Days later, authorities found its wreckage on the floor of the North Atlantic Ocean, several hundred yards from the remains of the Titanic, according to the Marine Board of Investigation, which is the highest level of inquiry by the Coast Guard. Lochridge testified he was supposed to pilot the submersible and objected when Rush decided he wanted to pilot the vessel. Rush made multiple errors during the dive, Lochridge said, including ignoring issues with the current and keeping his distance from the wreck. “It just didn’t seem to me that it had been particularly well-thought-out or executed,” he said of the submersible.
