Famed psychiatrist and former commodities trader Henry Jarecki on Wednesday said he had a "consensual, non-secretive and mutually respectful relationship" with a victim of Jeffrey Epstein who is now suing Jarecki for allegedly raping and sex trafficking her. Jarecki, 91, said the consensual relationship with the woman occurred more than a decade ago. Jarecki's statement, sent to CNBC by his lawyer Sarita Kedia, came two days after the Epstein victim, identified as Jane Doe 11, filed a civil lawsuit against the married psychiatrist in Manhattan federal court. A woman who says she was a sexual abuse victim of Jeffrey Epstein filed a lawsuit Monday against the famed psychiatrist, entrepreneur and commodities trader Henry Jarecki, alleging that Jarecki raped and sex trafficked her after Epstein sent her for psychiatric treatment. Epstein allegedly sent Jarecki other young women for the psychiatrist to "treat" confidentially, in order "to avoid unwanted attention on Epstein's sexual abuse of these young women," the suit alleges. The complaint, which refers to the woman as "Jane Doe 11," says Jarecki "repeatedly raped" her beginning in 2011 until December 2014. "Dr. Jarecki never engaged in any abusive conduct with the complainant or any other person," Kedia said.

The Democratic National Committee plans to hold a "virtual roll call" to nominate President Joe Biden before the party's August convention — a tactic meant to spare Biden the increasing danger of being left off Ohio's general election ballot. Biden's campaign and DNC announced the move Tuesday as the state Legislature here opened a special session ordered by Republican Gov. The Democratic convention — where the party traditionally nominates its candidates for president and vice president — is scheduled after Ohio's Aug. 7 deadline for certifying candidates. The Biden campaign and DNC had for weeks resisted going forward with such plans. But in calling for the special session, DeWine requested that lawmakers tackle both a Biden ballot fix and a measure to ban foreign money in state ballot issue campaigns.

Frances Sternhagen, the Tony Award-winning actress who played leading roles in stage productions of “Driving Miss Daisy” and “On Golden Pond” as formidable older women when she was so young that she had to wear aging makeup, died on Monday at her home in New Rochelle, N.Y. She was 93. Ms. Sternhagen won Tonys as featured actress in a play for her performances in two very different productions. In a 1995 Broadway revival of “The Heiress,” based on Henry James’s novel “Washington Square,” she was Cherry Jones’s well-meaning, matchmaking Aunt Lavinia. In “The Good Doctor,” Neil Simon’s 1973 take on Chekhov, she played multiple roles in comedy sketches. She received Tony nominations for her roles in the original productions of “On Golden Pond,” “Equus” and the musical “Angel” and in revivals of “Morning’s at Seven” and “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window.”
