The search for a woman who fell from a Taylor Swift-themed cruise ship in the Bahamas was suspended Wednesday, a day after she went into the water, officials said. The U.S. Coast Guard said Wednesday afternoon that the Royal Bahamas Defence Force was suspending its search pending new developments and that it no longer needed the Coast Guard's assistance. The Coast Guard said it sent an HC-144 airplane and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to help. A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said that a search-and-rescue operation was immediate launched and that it is working with local authorities. A helicopter that crashed into a Houston radio tower Sunday, killing all four people aboard and starting a fire below, was on an air tour flight when the accident occurred, the National Transportation Safety Board said Monday. Liam Payne, a member of British pop band One Direction, died Wednesday at the age of 31 after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina, local authorities said. A Navy aircraft with two crew members on board crashed east of Mount Rainier in Washington state Tuesday evening, and a search for the pair was ongoing, the Navy said. The Navy EA-18G Growler, which is an electronic attack aircraft that is part of the F/A-18 family of aircraft, was on a routine training flight when it crashed, the Navy said in a statement. The search included a Navy MH-60S helicopter launched from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, which is north of Seattle, the Navy said. The plane was from Electronic Attack Squadron 130, also known as VAQ-130, which is based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. The squadron is nicknamed the “Zappers.” The Navy says it is the oldest electronic warfare squadron in the Navy.

A man was fatally shot and nine other people were wounded, including three children, after two groups fired at each other as crowds from a Tennessee State University homecoming parade were thinning out Saturday, Nashville police said. The man who died in a Colorado mine elevator accident was a 46-year-old father and tour guide there, officials said Friday as investigators try to understand what exactly occurred. The man killed was identified as Patrick Weier, who worked as a tour guide at the mine. Weier had a 7-year-old son and lived in Victor, a community of less than 400 in the area, officials said. Body parts found in a freezer earlier this year after a Colorado home was sold have been identified as those of the 16-year-old daughter of the home’s previous owner, authorities said Friday. The death of Amanda Leariel Overstreet is being investigated as a homicide and an investigation is ongoing, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said. David Paterson and his stepson were attacked Friday while on a walk in Manhattan by assailants who had “a previous interaction” with the stepson, a spokesperson for Paterson said. Sean “Diddy” Combs has been moved to a section of the New York City jail where convicted cryptocurrency fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried is being held, sources confirm to NBC News. The area of the detention center is reserved for detainees who require special protection, three sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. Combs, 54, was arrested last week and is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a federal jail that has a notorious reputation for violence and poor care. Bankman-Fried, known as SBF, was convicted in November and was sentenced in March to 25 years in federal prison. Combs has not been convicted and has pleaded not guilty, but a federal judge on Sept. 17 ordered that he be held in jail pending trial.

A fire that erupted from a Texas natural gas pipeline that was struck by a vehicle died down and was extinguished Thursday, the city of Deer Park said. A car struck the Energy Transfer pipeline on Monday and caused the fire, which sent a geyser of flame into the air and caused nearby homes to be evacuated, officials said. That burned vehicle and human remains were found Thursday, the city said. Evacuation orders had covered nearly 1,000 homes and businesses in La Porte, which is just to the east of Deer Park. The fire erupted around 10 a.m. Monday, and by Thursday night Energy Transfer said that it had extinguished, Deer Park said.

A section of a trail in Montana’s Glacier National Park was closed Thursday after a hiker was injured by a bear, park officials said. The injuries to the hiker, a 35-year-old man, were not life-threatening, the National Park Service said. The hiker was hurt Thursday morning after he and his group encountered a bear near the Grinnell Glacier Overlook trailhead, the park service said. Glacier National Park covers 1,583 square miles in northwest Montana. It was the 10th most-visited national park last year, according to data from the park service, which also manages other types of properties, including the Lincoln Memorial.

An initial DNA test on remains believed to be those of Joseph Couch, the suspect in the Interstate 75 shootings, was inconclusive, but an autopsy confirmed the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, state officials said. The soft tissue DNA test was “inconclusive due to extreme decomposition of the body,” and a further DNA test with material extracted from bone will be completed, the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet said in a news release. The remains were found in deep brush by a highway exit in Laurel County, which is where London is and where the shootings occurred, state officials said. A couple livestreaming the search for Couch's body helped in the effort and the discovery, state police said. The DNA test from bone is expected to begin Friday and take 24 to 48 hours, the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet said.

A person was shot and and suffered a life-threatening injury Thursday after tackling a pro-Israel demonstrator in Newton, Massachusetts, the district attorney said. A member of the demonstrating group, a 47-year-old man from Framingham, then shot that person, she said. A Texas man was sentenced Tuesday to more than three years in federal prison for kicking a cat “as if kicking a football field goal” in a case of abuse that was recorded and shared on social media, prosecutors said. Donaldvan Williams, 30, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas said in a statement. “Williams did not render or try to procure aid for the cat, but instead kicked the cat as if kicking a football field goal,” prosecutors wrote in a statement that Williams signed. The kick was recorded by another man, Decorius Mire, who encouraged Williams to kick the cat, prosecutors said. Each man's guilty plea dealt with kicking the cat and recording it, not the animal's being set on fire, records show.
