Plenty of doctors have sounded the alarm about DTC telehealth companies, and some firms have gotten into legal trouble, too. For all the issues with DTC companies, it's fair to note that traditional healthcare settings are far from perfect.

Telehealth company Ro on Wednesday launched a new tracker to help patients find a popular class of weight loss and diabetes drugs called GLP-1s amid shortages of those treatments in the U.S. The supply tracker could be a valuable tool for many Americans scrambling to get their hands on GLP-1s, such as Novo Nordisk 's weight loss injection Wegovy and diabetes drug Ozempic. The tracker aims to make GLP-1 supply information more transparent and accessible for everyone, regardless of whether they are enrolled in any of Ro's programs. The tracker is an interactive tool that gives people real-time supply information by drug, dose size and pharmacy location. He added that opening up the tracker to everyone also makes it more likely for both Ro patients and people not enrolled in the company's programs to access GLP-1s.

When I hit my 20s, my health started to change. I also learned that I had Lyme Disease — maybe from a tick bite at Yosemite — which can trigger autoimmune responses. And since 80% of autoimmune patients are women, it became clear to me that this was a women's health crisis that no one was paying attention to. In 2022, I launched WellTheory, a virtual care platform that offers evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle coaching to mitigate autoimmune symptoms. Thanks to cutting-edge wearables and advances in the booming fitness tech industry, it's easier than ever to keep tabs on your heart health in real time. While it can be motivating to measure your health progress with metrics like resting heart rate, the real test is low-tech, Paz said. "For the vast majority of people, you don't need any of this stuff. Once you understand your current fitness level and heart health, you can set yourself small, achievable goals, then try the test again and see exactly how much you've improved. You don't need to run a marathon tomorrow," he said.
