But the lure for OCI and others of making ammonia with a smaller carbon footprint is a business with potential beyond the farm. is the question, and I think it's a good question," OCI CEO Ahmed El-Hoshy told Reuters, when asked why his company is betting on producing so-called "blue ammonia." But even with U.S. support, blue ammonia economics hinge on further government incentives. If utility premiums don't emerge, OCI plans to use its Texas blue ammonia to make fertilizer in The Netherlands, where the company has under-utilized its plants due to high natural gas prices. OCI's Texas plant, to start production in 2025, will produce 1.1 million metric tons annually.

CNN —Ukraine’s quest for US-made F-16 fighter jets received a big boost over the weekend when US President Joe Biden gave his backing for Kyiv’s pilots to be trained to fly them. In fact, one active duty F-16 pilot told CNN that expectations may be way too high. An F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft has its landing gear extended to land at the US military airfield at Spangdahlem, Germany. This is a multi-year process, and that’s just for the basic tactical unit of employment,” the F-16 pilot said. “To bring in Western aircraft, Ukraine might need to repave and potentially extend a number of runways, a process which Russia would likely detect.

Demand in Europe was still sluggish, but the German automaker expects that to improve too in the coming months as consumer confidence rebuilds. The company warned in February it expected lower earnings this year, even with sales remaining stable, because of high costs and inflationary pressure. The vans division saw an adjusted margin of 15.6%, up from last year's 12.6%, boosted by improved deliveries and pricing. Overall, global growth is likely to remain subdued, but inflation is gradually declining, energy prices are expected to be less volatile, and raw material prices are improving, it said. [1/5] Campaigners who have been protesting in Oslo for over a week against the wind turbines at Fosen, end the campaign with a demonstration in front of the Royal Castle in Oslo, Norway, March 3, 2023. Demonstrators had urged government action after Norway's supreme court ruled in 2021 that 151 turbines erected at Fosen in central Norway violated Sami rights under international conventions, but remained in operation 17 months later. Saying that a transition to green energy should not come at the expense of Indigenous rights, protesters blocked access to several ministries, putting the centre-left minority government in crisis mode. "We have made the government take responsibility for the ongoing violations of human rights and apologise," Sami artist and campaigner Ella Marie Haetta Isaksen told Reuters. "This case is bigger than just Fosen," Christian Rynning-Toennesen, the head of utility Statkraft and the operator of one of the affected wind farms, told reporters on Thursday.
MEXICO CITY, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Mexico is gearing up to build several manufacturing hubs for electric vehicles across the country, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard told Reuters, and is in talks with some of the world's top carmakers. Ebrard said in an interview late on Thursday that Mexico was keen to capitalize on the global shift to electric vehicles. "What they are more concerned about is having a guaranteed supply of clean energy, having water, having the personnel they need, facilitate electric power transmission lines," he said. Harald Gottsche, head of the BMW plant in the state of San Luis Potosi, which will produce fully electric cars, said Mexico also needs to push the consumer shift to electric vehicles. In addition to electric vehicles, Ebrard said he was also keen to attract more semiconductor and battery businesses - and build out transport infrastructure in the port of Coatzacoalcos, in the Gulf of Mexico.

OAKLAND, Calif., Nov 3 (Reuters) - Silicon Valley-based AI chip startup SiMa.ai on Thursday said it is entering the automotive industry and has recruited Harald Kroeger, a former executive at top tier auto supplier Bosch and Mercedes Benz (MBGn.DE), to lead that business. Kroeger, who is on the board of electric pickup truck firm Rivian (RIVN.O), will join SiMa.ai’s board, which includes top chip industry executives Moshe Gavrielov, a Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (2330.TW) board member, and Lip‑Bu Tan, an Intel (INTC.O) board member. The announcement comes as chip makers' competition in the automotive industry intensifies with Nvidia Corp (NVDA.O), Qualcomm Inc (QCOM.O), and Intel’s recently listed Mobileye (MBLY.O) all vying for car makers. SiMa.ai’s main product called MLSoC, short for machine learning system on chip, processes video and images, an important technology for assisted and self-driving technology. "I was on the knife's edge," said Krishna Rangasayee, CEO of SiMa.ai about the decision to enter the automotive market which he noted can take years to generate revenue from.

BERLIN, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Mercedes-Benz expects top end vehicle sales to rise in the single digits and said battery-electric vehicle production was hampered by production bottlenecks this year as it released third quarter results on Wednesday. The carmaker had said in July it expected top end vehicle sales to grow by 10%. It was no longer holding as many unfinished products as it was at the height of the semiconductor shortage, chief financial officer Harald Wilhelm said in an analyst call, but inventories were higher because finished products had not yet been delivered. Pent-up demand in Europe and a high order backlog would carry the carmaker into next year, Wilhelm said, adding it would prioritise bringing down inventory in the fourth quarter. China is the largest market for Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz finance chief on Wednesday told CNBC the automaker's pricing of its cars in China is "well-supported" after U.S. electric vehicle giant Tesla slashed prices. The CFO's comments come after Tesla on Monday slashed the price of its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China, one of the company's most critical markets. Tesla's price cut comes as competition ramps up in China from domestic electric car firms such as Warren Buffett-backed BYD as well as upstarts Nio and Xpeng. In the third quarter, Mercedes-Benz sold 84,850 electric vehicles, up 39% year-on-year.
