CNN —A Milwaukee radio station agreed to make two edits to an interview it recorded with President Joe Biden earlier this month at the request of his campaign, the station’s owner, Civic Media, said Thursday. The July 3 interview with WAUK-AM host Earl Ingram was one of Biden’s first media engagements following his poor performance at the June 27 CNN Presidential Debate. On Thursday, Civic Media, a Wisconsin-based radio network, posted the edited clips and the entire unedited interview on its website. “I don’t know if they even call for their hanging or not, but he–but they said (…) convicted of murder,” Biden said. A Biden campaign spokesperson acknowledged it had asked the station to edit the interview.

CNN —For weeks, the White House press corps has been boiling – and not from the Washington, DC, heat. Some feel the White House misled the press before President Joe Biden’s stumbling performance at last month’s CNN presidential debate. “I think this is a credibility crisis writ large for the White House, and certainly as a spokesperson for the White House, this is a credibility crisis for her,” one White House reporter told CNN, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the situation. “We are in the midst of a full-blown feeding frenzy,” former CNN White House correspondent and Washington bureau chief Frank Sesno said. Sesno and former White House correspondents and officials told CNN that questions surrounding Biden’s age and performance, along with how the White House is handling the issue, are legitimate and warrant scrutiny.

CNN —President Joe Biden will sit down with NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt for an interview that will tape and air next Monday, the network announced. Portions of the interview will first air Monday at 6:30 pm ET on NBC Nightly News. Last week, Biden sat down with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos for a 22-minute interview that drew in more than 8 million viewers. Biden has sat for the fewest number of television interviews as president since President Ronald Reagan, according to data from Professor Martha Joynt Kumar, a presidential scholar who tracks press interactions. The interview with Holt will be Biden’s sixth sit-down with a news network in 2024.

Stephanopoulos mostly lived up to the challenge, asking rapid-fire, biting questions that did not let Biden off the hook. Behind his questions, viewers got a sense of Stephanopoulos’ frustration, which is shared by the entire White House press corps. In the interview, Biden’s first since the CNN debate last month, Stephanopoulos kept the questions going at a fast clip. CNN —When ABC News first secured its exclusive interview with President Joe Biden, the rollout plan was paint-by-numbers. Anchor George Stephanopoulos is expected to interview Biden on Friday in Wisconsin, the president’s first extended interview with a major media network since his disastrous debate performance last week that has led many in the Democratic Party to question whether Biden should be the nominee. ABC had planned to release clips Friday evening, and the whole interview would air during Stephanopoulos’ Sunday morning show, “This Week With George Stephanopoulos.”Recognizing this extraordinary political moment, however, ABC had a change of heart. When ABC executives agreed to a time slot for the interview on Friday evening, they notified the White House and changed course, the source said. It’s not clear how long the interview will end up lasting, but ABC affiliates have it slated for a 30-minute special.
