Standard Chartered on Wednesday upgraded its 2024 income guidance as it posted profits in the third quarter that beat expectations, driven by record performance in its wealth management business. The London-headquartered bank also lifted its 2024 income guidance on Wednesday with operating income to increase towards 10% in 2024. Mel Macintyre landed her dream job at a finance company in Edinburgh in her 30s. I've been a business coach for 25 years and climbed the corporate career ladder in a typical, ambitious way. I struggled with feeling inauthentic and like I had to put a mask on at work every day. Against this backdrop, Wolfe Research released a basket of stocks that might be impaired under a Trump presidency. These companies would be at risk either under a 10% universal duty or 60% China tariffs. Beauty and cosmetics manufacturer Estée Lauder , down about 40% this year, could also face repercussions under a Trump win. Analyst Angel Castillo's revised price target of $332, down from $349, is approximately 14% lower than where shares closed on Wednesday. Kaur is set to assume her post on Jan. 1, according to regulatory filings with the Hong Kong bourse, taking over from interim Chief Financial Officer Jon Bingham. A new leadership structure, which includes the appointment of Pam Kaur as the lender’s first female chief financial officer, would “unleash our full potential and drive success into the future,” CEO Georges Elhedery said in a memo to staff. The overhaul sees Elhedery tackle one of HSBC’s most intractable problems. HSBC (HSBC) did not say what the projected cost savings might be or indicate how many jobs would be affected, but more details could emerge when the bank reports third-quarter results on October 29. Kaur, 60, takes over as CFO having served as HSBC’s chief risk and compliance officer. She joined the bank in April 2013 as group head of internal audit.

Analysts pick winners from China stimulus measures
  + stars: | 2024-10-20 | by ( Evelyn Cheng | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +4 min
Now that China's key ministers have spoken on stimulus, analysts have narrowed down the stocks likely to benefit. Chinese stocks have tempered their recent rally as investors await more policy details. Beyond interest rate cuts, the most tangible Chinese stimulus policies include subsidies to boost consumption with a trade-in program, along with incremental property market support. They screened for mainland-traded Chinese stocks with relatively high dividend yields and strong cash flow. While Chinese property developers may not bounce back right away, HSBC analysts expect construction software company Glodon, listed in Shenzhen, can benefit from property market stabilization.

With all eyes on China right now, one fund manager is bullish on the country regardless of any "bazooka" stimulus measures, saying investors should be getting involved. TD Bank shares fell 8% after it pleaded guilty to anti-money-laundering charges and agreed to pay a $3 billion fine. The charges involved a scheme by Chinese cartels bribing TD employees at bank branches in New York and New Jersey. The penalty is the largest ever anti-money laundering fine imposed on a bank by US officials. The bank cannot grow past its current $370 billion in asset size for as long as the asset cap is in place. The charges stem from an investigation that revealed TD Bank didn't have proper anti-money laundering practices in place.
