Montaque cofounded Group Black in 2021 with the goal of directing $500 million in advertising money to Black-owned media in its first 18 months. With the pledge, Group Black laid out a plan to steer money to Black media owners and acquire media companies. Bough, Group Black's chief strategy officer, was a former Mondelēz and PepsiCo marketer who presented the CNBC reality show "Cleveland Hustles." Various outlets reported that Group Black mounted bids for media companies including the Sports Illustrated publisher Arena Group, the Paramount-owned BET, Vice Media, and Vox Media. Seven former employees described Montaque as an energetic leader but said he was ultimately ineffective in executing Group Black's mission.

Read previewA growth-heavy mutual fund has crushed its index in the last decade thanks to a remarkably simple investing strategy that most bottom-up portfolio managers would decry as heresy. The Hennessy Cornerstone Growth Fund (HFCGX) managed by Neil Hennessy, Ryan Kelley, and Josh Wein is in the top 3% of its category in the last 10 years, according to Morningstar. AdvertisementThis stock screen, which doesn't examine a company's management team or balance sheet, is "a little bit unorthodox," Wein acknowledged. A 4-part pathway to strong gainsThough unconventional, the four-part vetting process that serves as the backbone of the Hennessy Cornerstone Growth Fund is far from unproven. Although Wein doesn't select stocks like most other managers, he still highlighted five stocks that he's most excited about.

Hong Kong CNN —Beijing has intensified its anti-dumping investigation into imports of European brandy. The announcement came on the same day as the European Commission’s additional provisional tariffs on imports of Chinese-made electric vehicles came into effect. On Saturday, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, a state-backed auto association, said it was “strongly dissatisfied” with the additional EU tariffs on Chinese EVs and considered them “unacceptable.”Major stakeholders are bracing for retaliatory moves by Beijing. China’s probe into Europe’s cognac is a tit-for-tat reaction to EU action on Chinese EVs, said Jean-Jacques Guiony, chief financial officer of LVMH (LVMH), at an economic conference on Saturday, according to a Reuters report. The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, announced last month that it would hike tariffs on Chinese EVs.

Despite the pullback, a primary uptrend remains in place for the CAC 40, in addition to the related iShares MSCI France ETF (EWQ) . Both proxies for French stocks appear to be finding their footing, which suggests that the market is welcoming the latest news regarding the election. Once the final outcome is determined, it would be natural for investors to respond favorably to the removal of uncertainty, particularly given the oversold status of French stocks. This suggests a counter-trend phase of outperformance is possible for French stocks versus U.S. stocks. Recent stabilization in many French stocks shows a positive reaction to widespread intermediate-term oversold conditions, which we gauge using the weekly stochastic oscillator.

All in all, Group Black said it planned to deploy $500 million in Black-owned media by the end of 2022. Some brands have provided updates on their commitments since, but gains by Black-owned media companies have been uneven overall. Group Black's idea was to help steer ad dollars to its member companies and use some of the ad dollars to buy stakes in media companies. It listed among its founding member companies Essence, which is part of Dennis' company, Sundial Media; podcast company Pod Digital Media; and lifestyle media company She Media. Various outlets also reported that Group Black sought to acquire stakes in media companies including Sports Illustrated publisher Arena Group and Vox Media.

One fund has a formula that has enabled it to consistently beat the S & P 500 : the Hennessy Cornerstone Growth Fund. The fund uses a formula-based strategy for investing, according to its portfolio managers Neil Hennessy, Ryan Kelley, and Joshua Wein. "We're trying to combine value with momentum and some growth," Kelley said. Stocks the fund owns Most of the stocks in the outperforming fund aren't actually in tech but in the industrials, consumer, financials and health-care sectors — because of the formula they use. It is the only name which survived in the recent rebalancing to the current batch of 50 stocks, said Wein.

Neil Hennessy said investors need to look at value stocks that offer attractive price-to-sales multiples and avoid what he sees as a dying "Magnificent Seven" trade. While Hennessy admitted that the Magnificent 7 stocks have performed well, he said their average price-to-earnings multiple sits at around 47 while their price-to-sales multiple is above 12. "The reality of our world is money is shifting over to value," said the University of San Diego alum. But Hennessy said the stock is attractively priced, with a price-to-sales multiple of 0.9 and P/E ratio of just 7. But the average price target implies the stock can turn around and surge more than 27% over the coming year.

One juror who found Hunter Biden guilty of three federal gun charges on Tuesday told CNN that he does not believe the president’s son should serve jail time. “I really don’t think that Hunter belongs in jail,” Juror 10 said. The juror pointed to the fact that Hunter Biden did not want the gun back after Hallie Biden took it out of his truck and threw it in the garbage near a grocery store. The juror said it didn’t make a difference for him that Hunter Biden did not take the stand in his own defense. “No politics came into play and politics was not even spoken about,” the juror said, reiterating it was all about Hunter Biden.

A professional rock climber who repeatedly sexually assaulted a woman during a weekend trip to Yosemite National Park in 2016 was sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison, prosecutors said. Mr. Barrett “used his status as a prominent climber to assault women in the rock-climbing community,” Mr. Talbert said. Three other women testified that he had sexually assaulted them, though their cases were not federally charged because they fell out of the prosecutors’ jurisdiction. “Barrett’s long history of sexual violence supports the imposition of a life sentence,” Mr. Talbert said. Timothy Patrick Hennessy and David A. Torres, the lawyers for Mr. Barrett, said in a joint statement on Tuesday: “We believe that imposition of a life sentence was excessive.

It also reflects that there's money in the system — but Chinese consumers are just really not that keen on dropping their hard-earned cash at Starbucks or Gucci. China's demand for gold jewelry softened in the first quarter of this year due to the surge in gold prices but was still holding up well, according to the council. Gen Z Chinese consumers ditch luxury for goldUnlike the rush into gold assets, Chinese consumers are not running out to buy even more stuff, particularly foreign imports. China's savings rate was around 32% last year — compared to around 4% in the US, according to a McKinsey analysis of official data. As anchor department stores left malls, so did some name-brand chains like Ruby Tuesday, Chili’s, Applebee’s and others. What’s taking their place illustrates a large shift in US tastes: There’s a boom in smaller and regional restaurant chains with a local following. At the same time, many national chains are prioritizing drive-thru locations over their sit-down restaurants in malls. Chick-fil-A restaurants were only located in mall food courts for the company’s first 20 years. “Traditional mall restaurants were casual dining chains like Chili’s, TGI Fridays, and quick-service restaurants in food courts.
