The Debt Collective announced it's erasing student debt for former Morehouse College students. It also called for Biden to do the same for all borrowers with federal student debt. The debt that was eliminated is not federal student debt, but rather, institutional debt that a college owns, like unpaid tuition and other school-related expenses. In May of 2022, the Debt Collective took the same action for former Bennett College students, eliminating $1.7 million in college debt for 462 students dating back as far as 1996. Still, the Debt Collective is calling for Biden to act on federal student debt for all borrowers.

Hunter celebrated his much-anticipated return to action with a 24-yard catch-and-run touchdown in the first quarter. When the Buffaloes forced a quick punt and got the ball for the first time, Hunter lined up wide right. Hunter returned to the game but later left to go to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a lacerated liver.

Trump has slammed the president for the visit, claiming Biden “had no intention” of walking the picket line until Trump said he would make a speech in Michigan. In the absence of an announced plan from the White House, speculation spread through the UAW ranks that Biden would go to whatever picket line was closest to the airport. Amid mounting political pressure to ramp up his public support, Biden is expressing solidarity with the union members, who are striking against the Big Three automakers – General Motors, Ford and Stellantis – for a second week. Union members, once a reliable Democratic voting bloc, have gradually gravitated to Republican candidates, according to CNN polls and the AFL-CIO, the nation’s largest labor federation. The historic presidential picket line appearance will reaffirm his commitment to the critical voting and organizing group ahead of the 2024 election.

NEW YORK (AP) — The HBCU Transformation Project, a coalition of 40 historically Black colleges and universities, on Wednesday announced a $124 million gift from philanthropic funders Blue Meridian Partners to increase enrollment, graduation rates and employment rates for the schools' graduates. “This very significantly scaled grant from them signals to the philanthropic community that this is a really good investment to make,” he said of the Blue Meridian gift. The donation will expand the work of the project, which has already received $75 million from Blue Meridian Partners since 2020. Blue Meridian Partners also provided funds to those organizations to improve their capacity to support the schools. HBCUs have received significantly less support from philanthropic foundations than predominantly white schools.

Xena Stryker left corporate America several years ago after feeling discriminated against. The company, Xena Design + Marketing Firm, has offices in Atlanta and Beverly Hills, California. If you're in a similar position as I was previously in corporate America, my advice is: dream big, determine your unique selling point, find a supportive dream team, and get out.
Michael B. Jordan says the biggest lessons he's learned about money management came from "life." However, he wonders where he would be if he had been taught more about money when he was younger. That's one reason he's aiming to help Black students and student athletes gain access to financial literacy education early. The actor, director and producer partnered with Invesco QQQ to create the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic, a men's college basketball showcase featuring Historically Black College and University (HBCU) student athletes, broadcast nationally on TNT. "So having another system in place to help them start thinking differently about their money is important."

Historically Black colleges and universities have been embroiled in a student housing crisis for decades. Fisk is believed to be the second U.S. higher education institution to utilize shipping containers for student housing after the College of Idaho implemented dorm-style containers in 2020. “The enrollment is growing so fast, and the shipping containers provide some sustainable flexibility. They all wanted to live in these shipping containers,” Frederiksen said. Meanwhile, other projects like the HBCU Healthy Housing (H3) Initiative from the Virginia-based advocacy group Student Housing of America are partnering with universities to build additional housing.
Broadway play “Ain’t No Mo’” has been extended to Dec. 23 after its cast and fans mobilized online support to prevent the show from closing just two weeks after its debut at the Belasco Theatre. The traditional decision-makers around Broadway’s financing and marketing “don’t know what to do with your type of audience,” Cooper said. “Our stories are not niche.”Cooper said “Ain’t No Mo’” was not given a fair shot to establish an audience. “I’m trying to make a Broadway theater look like an HBCU homecoming,” he said. When plays such as “Ain’t No Mo’” struggle to fill seats, Shade, of Broadway Black, said the blame is cast onto Black people for not attending.
At least one video on TikTok had gained more than 4 million views by late Thursday afternoon. That police were called on a student at an HBCU, an institution that is intended to be a safe space for Black students, was not lost on some. It wasn't immediately clear, in either the TikTok video or the school's statement, what the student was doing that made her an urgent threat in need of prompt removal. After class was briefly delayed by a fire alarm, the student said the professor asked her about the essay. At some point, the discussion became heated, according to the student, who said she raised her voice after the professor allegedly raised hers.
Sanders has a 27-5 coaching record at Jackson State, including going 12-0 this year and winning two consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference titles. Sanders will owe Jackson State around $300,000 in a buyout for the 2020 contract, according to USA Today. This is not a Deion Sanders thing,” Parker told NBC News. “I do think he cared about the well-being of Jackson State football players. I think the buzz around the program will change, especially if they don’t hire a coach that has a similar stature as Deion Sanders.”
