NEW DELHI, Aug 1 (Reuters) - At least five people, including two police personnel, were killed in clashes between Hindus and Muslims in India's Haryana state, neighbouring capital New Delhi, on Monday, police officials told Reuters. The violence erupted when a Hindu religious procession passed through the Muslim dominated Nuh region, located around 50 kilometres away from New Delhi. He said two of the dead were members of the home guard, a voluntary force that helps police control civil disturbances. Another 10 police personnel were injured in the clashes, he added. "The guilty will not be spared at any cost, strictest action will be taken against them," he said.

CNN —Heavy rains brought deadly floods to northern India on the weekend as the country’s capital marked its wettest July day in more than 40 years, according to authorities and local reports. The Indian Meteorological Department said New Delhi received 153 millimeters (6 inches) of rain on Sunday, making it the city’s wettest July day since 1982. On Sunday, the department issued red alerts, indicating the highest threat level, for the northern states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana. Landslide warnings were also issued for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu asked residents Monday to stay home for the next 24 hours.

BENGALURU, June 12 (Reuters) - Shares of Indian small-cap renewable energy company Urja Global (URJA.NS) jumped nearly 40% in two sessions following a deal with Gurugram-based Tesla Power India, which some investors mistook for U.S. automaker Tesla (TSLA.O). Urja on June 8 said it signed an agreement to manufacture and supply batteries with Tesla Power India, which has global headquarters in Delaware in the United States. "Investors misinterpreted this deal with the real Tesla, leading Urja stock to rally," said Prashanth Tapse, vice president of research at Mehta Equities. Urja shares were up 27.6% this year at 12.70 rupees. The small-cap stock was down 52% in 2022.

BENGALURU/CHENNAI, May 2 (Reuters) - India-based Pepsi bottler Varun Beverages (VARB.NS) on Tuesday reported an about 69% jump in quarterly profit on price increases and steady demand, and said it would split each of its existing shares into two. The company reported a consolidated net profit of 4.29 billion rupees ($52.46 million) for the first quarter ended March 31, compared to 2.54 billion rupees a year earlier. Gurugram-based Varun Beverages, which is PepsiCo's No.2 franchisee outside the United States, packages and distributes beverages under the Pepsi, Mirinda and Tropicana labels. Varun Beverages approved a share split of its existing shares in a ratio of 1:2 to boost its liquidity and make its stock "more attractive" to small investors. The stock was last up marginally at 1,450 rupees and up about 10% so far this year.

BENGALURU, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Indian food delivery firm Zomato Ltd (ZOMT.NS) on Thursday reported a narrower loss for the second quarter thanks to a rise in volumes and value of online orders. Adjusted core loss, excluding figures for its recently acquired quick-commerce business Blinkit, narrowed to 600 million Indian rupees ($7.37 million) from 3.1 billion rupees. Gross order value - the total value of all food delivery orders placed online on Zomato's platform - jumped nearly 23% to 66.31 billion rupees, slightly below Morgan Stanley's estimate of 67 billion rupees. Revenue from operations jumped 62% to 16.61 billion rupees, with its food delivery business registering a growth of 33%. Consolidated net loss stood at 2.51 billion rupees for the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with 4.30 billion rupees a year earlier, the Gurugram-based company said in an exchange filing.
