Former President Donald Trump on Thursday ripped Jamie Dimon as an "overrated Globalist" after the JPMorgan Chase CEO praised rival Republican Nikki Haley and urged business leaders to help her presidential bid. Dimon "is quietly pushing another non-MAGA person, Nikki Haley, for President," Trump wrote on Truth Social. Haley served in the Trump administration as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. "I've never been a big Jamie Dimon fan, but had to live with this guy when he came begging to the White House," wrote Trump, the current front-runner in the 2024 GOP presidential primary. "I guess I don't have to live with him anymore, and that's a really good thing!"

Nikki Haley needs more than Koch cash to beat Trump

AFP Action senior adviser Emily Seidel said in a briefing document explaining the decision that Haley was best positioned to beat Trump in the primary. What Haley could gain from the endorsementHaley has one thing every successful candidate needs as first voting nears – a rising political trajectory. And Tuesday’s developments complicated his campaign’s efforts to convince big corporate donors that he is the best hope to defeat Trump. As well as muscle in the campaign advertising wars, its endorsement could bring major donors to Haley’s campaign. Even when it comes to a candidate who is as disdainful of democracy as Trump is, voters decide.

Speaking to supporters in Iowa, Trump said he was against the regional trade deal being negotiated by the Biden administration with 13 other countries, arguing that it would hollow out U.S. manufacturing and trigger job losses. Trump, who withdrew from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal that had been forged with many of the same countries after taking office in January 2017, said he would "knock out" what he referred to as "TPP Two" immediately upon taking office. The Biden administration had hoped to finish key chapters of its IPEF trade initiative in time for this week's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting. It has vowed to continue negotiating the ambitious deal, but election-year pressures and resistance to tough commitments from some countries make a deal unlikely, trade experts and business groups say. CNN —Rep. Mike Johnson is set to take his fight for the speakership to the House floor on Wednesday, a pivotal moment for House Republicans that comes amid uncertainty over whether the Louisiana lawmaker can secure the 217 votes needed to win the gavel. Johnson, who serves as the House GOP conference vice chairman, secured the nomination for the speakership late Tuesday evening. The day ended with a vote to elect a new nominee – this time, Johnson won out. The GOP conference is under increasing pressure as the House remains paralyzed without a speaker. Following the nomination vote, House Republicans took another vote to gauge the nominee’s support within the conference.

REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Oct 24 (Reuters) - U.S. House Republicans picked Majority Leader Tom Emmer as their nominee for speaker on Tuesday, making him the third pick in as many weeks, after the last two failed to garner enough support on the House floor to get the gavel. LEADERSHIP ROLEEmmer served as chair of the House Republicans' campaign arm from 2019 to 2022, helping to win back the majority in 2022 before being elected majority whip. Emmer has pushed back on this, pointing to his endorsements of Trump in 2016 and 2020, and adding that other Republican leaders have also not endorsed Trump yet, including former speaker nominee Steve Scalise and former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. However Trump came out swinging against Emmer on Tuesday, saying on social media, "Voting for a Globalist RINO like Tom Emmer would be a tragic mistake!"

Trump isn't a fan of Tom Emmer, the GOP's latest nominee for speaker of the House. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe weeks-long quest to find a new Republican speaker of the House took yet another chaotic turn on Tuesday after former President Donald Trump bashed his party's newly-elected nominee, Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota. "I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great Warriors," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them." "Voting for a Globalist RINO like Tom Emmer would be a tragic mistake!"

“RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them. He never respected the Power of a Trump Endorsement, or the breadth and scope of MAGA—MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”A majority of those opposed to Mr. Emmer were members of the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus and loyal to Mr. Trump. Any candidate for speaker can lose only a handful of votes and still win the speakership because Republicans hold such a small majority in the House. Only hours later, Mr. Emmer decided to drop his bid, according to a person familiar with his thinking who divulged it on the condition of anonymity before it was officially announced. The Republican disarray underscored a new ethos that has gripped the House G.O.P.

U.S. Representative Tom Emmer (R-MN) arrives for a House Republican conference meeting to choose a nominee in the race for House Speaker at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, October 24, 2023. Rep. Tom Emmer is the latest Republican nominee for speaker of the House, and that could mean a fresh headache for the nation's largest business lobbying group. Emmer, like former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, is one of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's biggest critics among House Republicans. A lack of engagement with House Republican leadership, particularly the speaker, could mean that the Chamber will have little impact on future legislation. The Chamber has continued to support Republicans despite the criticism the group has received from House Republican leadership.

In the final round of secret-ballot voting, Johnson was elected speaker nominee with 128 votes. McCarthy received 43 votes, the next highest tally, and some House Republicans are blaming the California Republican for undercutting Johnson’s ascent. Members of Trump’s team also called GOP members and urged them to oppose Emmer for speaker, two sources told CNN. Leaving a GOP conference meeting Monday night, Emmer told CNN, “We have a good relationship,” when asked about Trump. “Right now, I think it is apparent to the American people that the GOP conference is hopelessly divided.

A Third Speaker Nominee Failed to Unify Republicans

House Republicans voted this afternoon to nominate Tom Emmer — a Representative from Minnesota who holds the No. 3 leadership post — to be the chamber’s next speaker. Emmer is now the third Republican this month to be chosen by his party to become speaker, only to have his bid collapse in a seemingly endless cycle of G.O.P. About two dozen right-wing Republicans quickly indicated that they would not vote for him on the House floor, all but certainly denying the majority he would need. The former president said that it would be a “tragic mistake” if Emmer, who pitched himself as a unity candidate, became speaker, and called him a “Globalist RINO” — short for “Republican in name only.”

CNN —When Westerners talk about the conflict in Ukraine becoming a “forever war,” they tend to mean it as a bad thing. As the forever war becomes the organising principle of “late Putinism,” it excuses — even demands — the tightening grip of repression Putin needs to maintain his control of the nation. From Putin’s point of view, talk of a ‘forever war’ has one final virtue for him — it is demoralising to his enemies. However, from his point of view, talk of a “forever war” has one final virtue for him — it is demoralising to his enemies. No war lasts forever, but peace is still well over the horizon.

Wriston's financial innovations helped create the modern Eurodollar market — a vast offshore realm of financial transactions in US dollars happening outside of US borders. As he explained in 1979, the "current banking network, with its Euromarkets and its automated payments system" seemed dull and technical, but it had immense political consequences. Wriston helped rebuild this clanking machine into an engine of transformation, welding disjointed national markets into a true world economy. It began to develop a new kind of sanction, which used its control of "dollar clearing" to force international banks to implement US policy outside its borders. Instead of the stateless, government-less world that Wriston envisioned, the internationalization of the US dollar became the precedent for a massive transformation of America's financial power.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) did not sign an order canceling U.S. elections nor does it have the power to do so, contrary to social media posts citing an opinion article by a WEF contributor discussing the idea of average citizens being elected instead of politicians. The article does not discuss handing elections over to elites, however, but instead the possible outcomes of randomly selected leaders and choosing average citizens to lead instead of politicians using a sort of lottery system. Regardless, the op-ed does not reflect WEF policy, as the People’s Voice article says. The People’s Voice did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment. A main focus of Trump's attacks has been Social Security - the federal pension system - and Medicare. I will always protect Social Security and Medicare for our great seniors." Vladimir Putin said the West was waging a "real war" against Russia in his Victory Day speech. Victory Day is celebrated on May 9 every year in Russia to commemorate the Soviet Union's victory over Germany in World War II. Leading up to Victory Day, officials in several Russian cities canceled their parades. "He almost acts as if the world is no different than it was in World War II," Norris explained. He also said Ukraine would replace Russia's Victory Day with a new holiday to be celebrated annually on May 9 — Europe Day.
He sought to portray the war in Ukraine as part of a plot to destroy Russia. Putin has sought to portray the war in Ukraine as a battle against Western powers who he claims are determined to destroy Russia. A real war has been unleashed against our Motherland," he said during a parade in Moscow on Tuesday. During the war, Russia was allied against fascist powers with Western powers including the UK and US. "They've even said that the West created Nazis," he added, calling it a "grotesque perversion of and distortion of history".
CNN —For Russian President Vladimir Putin, this year’s Victory Day parade in Red Square was a chance to continue his war on history. It has become a pawn to their cruel and selfish plans.”Despite the pomp of the parade, Putin cuts an increasingly isolated figure. In Russia, Putin and his regime have destroyed these values. A lone Soviet-era T-34 tank leads the procession in Moscow in contrast to the large array of military hardware on display on previous Victory Day parades. “Victory Day is the victory of our grandfathers,” he said.
DeSantis was already worried about alienating the MAGA base in 2018, per an old debate prep video. Ron DeSantis was already worrying about how he could publicly disagree with then-President Donald Trump without annoying and alienating the MAGA base, a new video shows. A video published on Sunday by ABC News shows Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz helping DeSantis prep for debates, for DeSantis' first gubernatorial campaign in 2018. And while DeSantis has held back from publicly criticizing Trump, Trump has launched numerous attacks on the Florida governor. Trump has also given DeSantis nicknames like "Ron DeSanctimonius" and "RINO Globalist" — the former of which DeSantis has tried to brush off.
Arms dealer Viktor Bout, nicknamed the "Merchant of Death," is asking Trump to flee to Russia. He sent Trump a telegram, warning him to escape charges in New York and that his "life is in peril." Bout said Trump would find "safe haven" in Russia, where he could rebel against "globalists." They would sooner end your life than let you stand in their way," Bout's message read, Russian state media first reported. A photo of Bout's telegram, posted by Russian state media on the messaging app Telegram, shows the message was addressed to Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.
It came despite the relationship between Murdoch and Trump being on the rocks as of late. And yet, Murdoch allowed the incendiary pro-Trump rhetoric to grip his network on Thursday night. If there was any doubt that Fox News might not offer a full-throated defense of Trump today, given the disgraced Republican’s shaky relationship with Murdoch, that has been erased. Even if he’s not convicted, they figure the indictment and spectacle will help him become the Republican nominee. The outlet’s website prominently featured a story saying Bragg “has a bad case of bias,” among other Trump-friendly articles.
