Bitcoin is just getting started after its postelection rally, according to Fundstrat's Tom Lee, and is still on track to hit six figures by the end of the year. "I think because [it's] post-halving and now bitcoin is becoming a lot more relevant ... the regulatory overhang is diminishing — that there's a lot of upside from here." The flagship cryptocurrency climbed to fresh records this week after President-elect Donald Trump' s victory, which was widely anticipated as a bullish catalyst for the crypto industry at large. During Trump's campaign for reelection he promised the crypto industry a more favorable regulatory environment that would include appointing a more crypto-friendly leader to chair the Securities and Exchange Commission. Bitcoin is up 79% this year, compared with the S & P 500's 25% gain.

Bitcoin is on track to hit the $100,000 price milestone by the end of the year after President-elect Donald Trump's election victory, according to analysts. Bitcoin at $100,000 "doesn't sound so unreasonable" given it equates to "just 10% of gold's market share," Butterfill told CNBC in emailed comments. BTC to hit $100K by Trump's inauguration A $100,000 bitcoin price is likely to be reached by the time Trump is inaugurated president on Jan. 20, 2025, according to Fadi Aboualfa, head of research at crypto custodian Copper.co. Still, with bitcoin exchange-traded funds currently holding roughly 1.1 million bitcoins, momentum is likely to be positive in the coming months, Aboualfa added. It cuts in half the supply of bitcoin issued to miners who successfully produce new bitcoins.

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler has sought to dramatically increase regulation of corporate America, vastly increasing disclosure requirements in particular. In response, corporate America has brought an avalanche of lawsuits against Gensler and the SEC. With a new regime now coming into the SEC following Donald Trump's victory in the presidential race, how will they respond to the lawsuits? Are there are any favorites for SEC chairman? Dan Gallagher, now serving as Robinhood's chief legal officer and formerly a Republican SEC commissioner, has been floated as a possible replacement.

It's the dawn of a new day for the crypto industry with Donald Trump now the president-elect of the United States, said Galaxy Digital's Michael Novogratz, calling out the numerous crypto advocates that have advised him. "We've got a Congress that is moving our way, we've got a president that's moving our way, and so for Galaxy and the crypto industry, that couldn't be more optimistic," he said on CNBC's "Squawk Box" Wednesday morning. "Those three positions, with someone who's open minded to crypto … changes everything," he said. And all of a sudden we'll start seeing decentralized systems launched and work so this is really a step change." The shift won't happen overnight, Novogratz warned, but as Trump starts to appoint people into various positions of leadership there will be "a substantial shift in the energy of this industry."

The ETF industry is gearing up for some potentially seismic changes in 2025 and beyond. Policy changes from the SEC are hard to predict, but the ETF industry appears to sense an opening to push new types of products. Private credit funds One big area of focus for the ETF industry is how to tap into the private credit boom that has become a key part of the U.S. financial system. Fund issuers will need the SEC to bless new types of constructions in order to get a private credit fund approved. "For the most part, private credit is an investment that is limited to sophisticated investors and not retail investors," said Brian Murphy, a partner at law firm Stradley Ronon.

With Republicans favored to win the Senate, Harris may have few opportunities to pursue an ambitious legislative agenda, shifting the Democratic ideological fight to key personnel decisions. “It’d be a strategic blunder for Harris to pick an ugly fight over Lina Khan’s future when there’s already strong consensus among Democrats. Moderate senators like Bob Casey and Jackie Rosen are actively campaigning on the FTC’s work to lower prices,” said a Senate Democratic aide, who was granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive subject. Removing her would not only infuriate the left but it could provoke a confirmation fight with Senate Republicans over her replacement. Some in the progressive movement believe Harris should simply leave her there without going through confirmation again in the Senate if need be.

Former President Donald Trump on Saturday railed against fellow billionaire Mark Cuban, who has been vigorously campaigning for his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. "Mark Cuban is a Loser," Trump wrote in a Saturday Truth Social post. Trump's insults come several days after Cuban mocked the Republican presidential nominee's tariff proposals at a Harris campaign rally. This election cycle, Cuban has become a regular Harris campaign surrogate as the vice president works to frame herself as a pro-growth capitalist. Meanwhile, Trump has enlisted Elon Musk as his own mega-billionaire campaign surrogate, fueling another rivalry with Cuban.

FBI agents on Thursday arrested an Alabama man for his alleged role in the Jan. 9 hack of the Securities and Exchange Commission's X account, which sent the price of bitcoin spiking by more than $1,000, the Department of Justice announced. The tweet said, "Today the SEC grants approval for #Bitcoin ETFs for listing on all registered national securities exchanges." Shortly afterward, the SEC regained control of its social media account, and announced the tweet was false and the result of a hack. A day after the hack, the SEC approved rule changes that allowed the creation of bitcoin ETFs in the United States. Council, who used the online handles "Ronin," "Easymunny," and "AGiantSchnauzer," allegedly was paid in bitcoin by co-conspirators for his role in the hack.

In total, Larsen has given around $1.9 million to support Harris' campaign directly and through PACs, according to FEC data compiled by crypto market and blockchain analyst James Delmore and independently verified by CNBC. Nearly half of all the corporate money flowing into the election has come from the crypto industry, according to a recent report from the nonprofit watchdog group Public Citizen.
