Apple announced its mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro, on Monday during its WWDC developer conference. The $3,499 headset is its first major new product since the Apple Watch in 2014. The Vision Pro will allow users to see apps in a new way, in the spaces around them. Disney CEO Bob Iger appeared on stage to announce that Disney+ would be available on the Vision Pro from day one of its release. Unity stock spiked over 20% and trading was briefly halted after Apple announced a partnership with the game development platform.

NEW YORK, May 22 (Reuters) - Enad Global 7 AB's (EG7.ST) stock price jumped 5% on Monday after U.S. activist investor Alta Fox urged the Swedish video game company to explore strategic options, including a possible sale. "EG7 is a high-quality business that remains dramatically undervalued due to no fault of current leadership," Alta Fox's managing partner Connor Haley wrote. Previous management's missteps and the fact that it is not well known outside of Sweden are hurting the company, the letter said. May 16 (Reuters) - French video game producer Ubisoft (UBIP.PA) posted the biggest operating loss in company's history on Tuesday but stuck to its guidance for the current financial year, citing a renewed focus on blockbuster titles. The maker of the hit "Rainbow Six" franchise posted a full-year non-IFRS operating loss of 500.2 million euros ($550.6 million), in line with a target announced in its January profit warning. The family-run firm has been dogged by game cancellations and delays in recent years, booking a writedown estimate of around 500 million euros in 2022 due to research and development expenses. The Paris-listed publisher confirmed its estimate for a full-year core profit of around 400 million euros, while forecasting first-quarter net bookings of around 240 million euros. Savvy Games, owned by the country’s Public Investment Fund, announced on Wednesday that it was buying U.S. mobile games specialist Scopely for $4.9 billion. Though privately held Scopely doesn’t disclose its financials, Savvy looks to be getting a good price. Less clear is how Scopely contributes to Saudi’s aims of becoming the “ultimate global hub” for gaming and pivoting its economy away from fossil fuels. If Saudi wants to create jobs from the rapid growth of domestic game consumption, it needs to turn its games M&A into gaming boots on the ground.
The Russian army's clothing brand was spotted using posters with characters from the game "Atomic Heart." But the game's developers told Insider they never gave the Kremlin permission to use their work. Ukraine previously tried to boycott "Atomic Heart," accusing its developers of having Russian ties. March 22 - Unity Software Inc (U.N), producer of the eponymous video game development environment, aims to open a marketplace for generative artificial intelligence (AI) software, Chief Executive John Riccitiello told Reuters. Game developers routinely spend significant resources creating assets such as characters and sound effects. Major software firms have since announced a flurry of generative AI projects to capitalize on what is widely seen as game-changing technology. "In every video game in history, the dialogue was written by somebody," Riccitiello said in an interview on Tuesday. "But now what you can do with (generative AI) is give these characters motivation, personality, and objectives and then they can spawn dialogue that doesn't require a writer."

Sept 29 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's Savvy Games Group, owned by sovereign wealth fund PIF, will invest 142 billion riyals ($37.8 billion) in initiatives aimed at making the kingdom a global hub for gaming, state news agency SPA said on Thursday. The investments will include 70 billion riyals to take several minority stakes in companies that support Savvy's game development agenda and 50 billion riyals to acquire "a leading game publisher to become a strategic development partner". Another 20 billion riyals will be invested in mature industry partners who bring expertise to Savvy's portfolio and 2 billion riyals will target industry disruptors "to grow early-stage games and esports companies." The company's strategy is to invest in the electronic games industry and esports over a long timeline, including local and international programmes and infrastructure. It aims to set up 250 games companies in Saudi Arabia, which will create 39,000 jobs, and raise the sector's contribution to Saudi GDP to 50 billion riyals by 2030, SPA added.
Netflix said Monday it will be opening an internal game studio in Finland. This is the company's first push into internal game development since streaming giant entered the mobile gaming space in November 2021. The company has already purchased three external game studios over the past year. Netflix already has a cache of over 20 mobile games available for download to Netflix subscribers, and the company plans to have 50 by the end of the year. The streamer's foray into gaming is in its early stages, but, as of August, not many Netflix subscribers were playing.
