DORTMUND, Germany, May 7 (Reuters) - Borussia Dortmund demolished hapless VfL Wolfsburg 6-0 on Sunday, with two goals apiece from Karim Adeyemi and Jude Bellingham, to stay hot on the heels of Bundesliga leaders Bayern with three games left in the season. Dortmund are now on 64 points, one behind Bayern, 2-1 winners against Werder Bremen on Saturday. "We are satisfied today but a long way from happy," said Dortmund coach Edin Terzic. Dortmund host Borussia Moenchengladbach next Saturday while Bayern take on Schalke 04. Instead it was Dortmund who struck again in the 28th when Adeyemi delivered a pin-point assist for Sebastien Haller to tap in.
DORTMUND, Germany, April 22 (Reuters) - Borussia Dortmund cruised past Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0, with two goals coming from Donyell Malen, on Saturday to take over the lead in the Bundesliga from Bayern Munich with five matches left in the season. For Frankfurt, last year's Europa League winners, it was their eighth league game without a win and they dropped to ninth, out of contention for a European spot. Jude Bellingham opened Dortmund's account in the 19th minute after picking up the ball at the edge of the box, turning on the spot and firing in. Their second goal, five minutes later, was far easier, with keeper Gregor Kobel kicking the ball deep in to the Frankfurt half and Malen slotting in after the ball was headed on twice past a clueless Frankfurt backline. Mats Hummels made it 3-0 with a well-timed header from a Raphael Guerreiro cross before Karim Adeyemi's solo effort set up Dutch striker Malen for his second goal of the evening in the 66th.

Whirlwind Bayern crush Dortmund 4-2 to go top in Tuchel debut

MUNICH, Germany, April 1 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich overran a hapless Borussia Dortmund to win Der Klassiker 4-2 on Saturday as three goals in the opening 23 minutes helped them reclaim top spot in the Bundesliga and hand new coach Thomas Tuchel a winning start. With Tuchel, who also coached Dortmund from 2015-2107, having replaced Julian Nagelsmann on the Bayern bench, the hosts were all over their title rivals from the start. With Dortmund's defence torn to shreds and club bosses frozen in their seats at the Allianz Arena, Bayern never took their foot off the gas. Some sloppy finishing, however, saw them squander half a dozen golden chances in the second half before Dortmund struck twice late in the game, with an Emre Can penalty in the 72nd minute and a stoppage-time effort from Donyell Malen. Tuchel, who previously also coached Paris St Germain and Chelsea, could not have dreamt of a better start with Bayern on course for a record-stretching 11th league crown.

The scene of the shooting was the Jehovah's Witnesses' Kingdom Hall, a modern and boxy three-story building next door to an auto repair shop. Student Laura Bauch, who lives nearby, said "there were about four periods of shooting," German news agency dpa reported. She said she looked out her window and saw a person running from the ground floor to the second floor of the Jehovah's Witnesses hall. Police had no information on the event that was under way in the building when the shooting took place. Jehovah's Witnesses are part of an international church, founded in the United States in the 19th century and headquartered in Warwick, New York.

An installation view of the show with Vermeer’s ‘Girl With a Pearl Earring’AmsterdamWhen the Frick Collection announced plans several years ago for a major renovation, the Rijksmuseum here saw a once-in-a-lifetime chance to borrow its three magnificent paintings by the Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675), which normally would never leave their New York home. Museums around the world and two private collectors also agreed to lend, and a retrospective, the largest ever assembled of the painter’s surviving work, took shape. “Vermeer,” the first exhibition devoted to the artist in the Rijksmuseum’s history, consists of 28 paintings (with one, his magisterial “Girl With a Pearl Earring,” leaving town March 30) out of the roughly 36 known to still exist. Organized by the museum’s curators Gregor J.M. Weber and Pieter Roelofs and designed by the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte , it is a staggeringly beautiful, brilliantly realized show unlikely to be repeated.

Kyle Connor had a goal and two assists while Pierre-Luc Dubois added a goal for Winnipeg. The Ducks, who have lost five straight games, got 51 saves from John Gibson, the NHL leader in losses (10-23-6). Pastrnak's 40th goal of the season broke a 1-1 tie with 2:54 remaining in the second period. Charlie McAvoy assisted on all three Boston goals, and Jake DeBrusk scored his second goal in as many games since returning from injuries.
Feb 16 (Reuters) - Chelsea forward Kai Havertz said he was encouraged by the way the club's new signings are gelling with the team despite the side recording only one win in 2023. Since manager Graham Potter took over in September Chelsea have scored only 25 goals in 24 games and managed only three in their last eight. Last month's 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace remains their only victory in nine games this year. "I don't think we should be too unhappy with our performance because we created the opportunities, but it's just frustrating that we couldn't take any of them," Havertz said. Emotional Townsend savours Calcutta Cup hat-trick

"I don't know if it's this fixture. I didn’t get close to winning as a player, it was always the same result down here. Two years ago (when Scotland won at Twickenham for the first time in 38 years) there was no crowd here so this was emotional. Townsend said it reminded him of the computer game version of the late former All Black Jonah Lomu "when he ran faster than everyone else. It was one that sends the Scotland supports crazy and silences everyone else as you don’t see tries like that very often," he said.
LEVERKUSEN, Germany, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Borussia Dortmund cruised past hosts Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 on Sunday for their third win in three league matches since the Bundesliga resumed after the winter break, climbing to within three points of the top spot. Goals from Karim Adeyemi and a second half own goal from Edmond Tapsoba gave Dortmund a comfortable victory and snapped Leverkusen's five-game winning run in the Bundesliga, dropping them to ninth place. "Today it was not only an important win but also a deserved one and this is something we liked. "This win won't mean much if we don't keep at it and keep delivering the same performances," Terzic said. Germany international Adeyemi rifled in his first Bundesliga goal after a good passing move from Dortmund in the 33rd minute with Leverkusen's Moussa Diaby having earlier forced a superb save from Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel.

A Rare Reunion of Vermeers

The Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer didn’t live long, and he didn’t paint much. By the time he died in 1675, at age 43, he may have spent more time working at other jobs, including art dealer and innkeeper, than as an artist. Scholars now believe that some three dozen of his paintings survive, about one-tenth as many as Rembrandt. On Feb. 10, Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum will make history with “Vermeer,” bringing together 28 acknowledged paintings by the Dutch master, substantially more than previous museum shows. Weber, the Rijksmuseum’s head of fine and decorative arts and the show’s co-curator.
Jan 20 (Reuters) - British power firm SSE Plc (SSE.L) on Friday raised its annual earnings forecast helped by strong market conditions, and said it would invest any additional profit it makes into low-carbon electricity infrastructure. The company said it now expects adjusted earnings per share of more than 150 pence for fiscal year 2023 ending March 31, up from the previous outlook of at least 120 pence. The group's finance director Gregor Alexander said in a trading statement that its 12.5 billion pound ($15.45 billion)net-zero acceleration programme was progressing "at pace". In November, National Grid (NG.L) and British Gas-owner Centrica too had raised their annual earnings expectations as power companies benefit from persistently high energy prices caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Every year since I was a teenager, my mom has asked what I wanted for Christmas. After all, my reasoning doesn’t seem to require us to engage in, say, the Socratic method. Maybe the pressure to buy Christmas gifts for anyone is a farce, a scheme created by capitalism to get us to spend, spend, spend on things we don’t want or need. They accept whatever bad (based on how little they use them) gifts I buy for them. But I’m tired of participating in a capitalistic sham, and I’m tired of giving Christmas gifts my family and friends don’t want.
DOHA, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Switzerland reached the World Cup knockout phase for the third straight time after prevailing 3-2 over Serbia on Friday to finish runners-up in Group G and set up a last 16 showdown with Portugal. But Switzerland resolutely saw out the win, and finished second in Group G behind Brazil on goal difference. Switzerland have now reached the last 16 of every World Cup and European Championship since 2014 and will meet Group H winners Portugal on Tuesday for a place in the quarter-finals. Serbia, who needed a win to give themselves a chance of advancing, finished bottom of the group with only one point. They have never moved past the World Cup group stage since the break-up of Yugoslavia.

The business, SSEN Transmission – which operates under its licensed entity – Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission plc, will be chaired by SSE's finance director, Gregor Alexander, and Ontario Teachers' will get a proportional representation on the board. BERLIN, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Borussia Moenchengladbach fired four goals past hapless Borussia Dortmund for a 4-2 victory on Friday to leave their opponents in sixth place following their second straight league loss. Gladbach, who have now won six of their eight home games so far, are in seventh place on 22 points, three behind Dortmund. Jonas Hofmann, fresh from his Germany World Cup squad inclusion, slotted in for the lead after four minutes before Julian Brandt, another World Cup-bound Germany international, drew the visitors level. Dortmund pulled a goal back with Nico Schlotterbeck's volley on the rebound but the Ruhr valley club were badly leaking at the back. Thuram should have added at least one more goal but he missed a string of golden chances as Dortmund faltered.

DORTMUND, Germany, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Borussia Dortmund drew 0-0 with already-qualified Manchester City on Tuesday to book their spot in the Champions League knockout stage with a game to spare. "We played much better in the second half. In the first half we conceded some balls and lost some counter-attacks," said City coach Pep Guardiola. "We finally rewarded ourselves against City with the point today," said Dortmund coach Edin Terzic. I have seldom seen a City game where they had so few chances."
