WASHINGTON — ABC will pay $15 million as part of a legal settlement with President-elect Donald Trump, closing out a dispute that centered on an interview in which Trump alleged anchor George Stephanopoulos defamed him. The defendants, identified by the settlement as ABC, ABC News and Stephanopoulos, will also pay $1 million to Trump's counsel and add a note to an online article about the interview declaring that they "regret statements" about Trump, according to the settlement. Stephanopoulos said during the interview that Trump "has been found liable for rape by a jury." Trump, however, was found liable in a civil case for sexually abusing Carroll, not liable for her alleged rape. On Friday ahead of the settlement, a judge ordered that Trump and Stephanopoulos be available for depositions next week regarding the case.

Months before United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot to death on a Manhattan sidewalk, suspect Luigi Mangione went dark and loved ones desperately tried to find him. After months of silence and growing worry from his family and friends, Mangione finally resurfaced Monday when he was captured by police in Pennsylvania as the suspect in Thompson’s killing. Mangione is fighting extradition to New York, and his lawyer, Thomas Dickey, said he has yet to see evidence linking his client to Thompson’s killing. The two last texted about nine months ago, when Martin reached out to ask Mangione whether he had undergone spinal surgery. The cousin said Mangione had been missing for months, had undergone back surgery and the family was desperate to find him.

The settlement, which was filed publicly Saturday, reveals the network will also pay $1 million in Trump’s attorneys’ fees and will issue an apology. Carroll alleged that Trump raped her in a department store in the mid-1990s and that he defamed her when he denied her claim. The jury awarded Carroll $5 million for battery and defamation. Trump has thus far not made himself available for a recorded deposition — to the apparent chagrin of the defense team. “I can understand your frustration,” U.S. Magistrate Judge Lisette M. Reid said to Nathan Siegel, the lawyer representing ABC News. Hours after the hearing, Reid issued an order that Trump sit down for an in-person deposition the week of Dec. 16 and that it be limited to four hours. Further, the judge ordered that Stephanopoulos must also be deposed next week and it must also be restricted to four hours.

The media company announced Thursday that it sold First We Feast, the food and pop culture entertainment brand behind the popular "Hot Ones" YouTube show, for $82.5 million in an all-cash deal. Additional investors will be announced at a later date, according to a press release from First We Feast, which will now operate as an independent multiplatform media company. Its show “Hot Ones,” which features celebrities answering questions while eating spicy chicken wings, has grown a strong fandom over the years for its unique format and Evans’ interview style. Evans will continue to serve as the host of "Hot Ones" and take on an additional role as First We Feast's chief creative officer.
