CNN —On July 11, 2014, I was running with a bull in Pamplona, Spain. The story is a fascinating adventure into the Fiesta de San Fermín, also known as The Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. By the time I finished reading that novel, I decided I would go to Spain and run with the bulls and I would become a writer. So I began to run with Lecuona, David Rodríguez, Aitor Arístegui and others leading bulls up the streets. The district is a Democratic stronghold Democratic strategists predict their party will be able to retain. A previous special election in which the Republican candidate lost by a wide margin may be why the GOP hasn’t drained its coffers to try to flip the seat, said Trevor Southerland, House Democratic campaign strategist. Several Democrat-led initiatives, such as whole home repair and broader protections for LGBTQ+ people, were critical pieces of legislation that didn’t move until Democrats reclaimed control of the state House earlier this year, she said. But the Legislature remains politically divided, with a firm Republican majority in the Senate that has sought to advance its own priorities, including school vouchers and constitutional amendments. She previously ran for the state House in 2000 but lost to the Democrat seeking reelection.

[1/5] Aug 31, 2023; Flushing, NY, USA; John Isner of the United States serves against Michael Mmoh of the United States (not pictured) on day four of the 2023 U.S. Open tennis tournament at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Isner had match point at 5-4 in the fifth but Mmoh was able to serve his way out of trouble and levelled with a drop shot. After a successful college career at Georgia, Isner turned pro in 2007 and went on to reach a career high of world number eight. He won the longest professional tennis match in history against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut at Wimbledon in 2010, which lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes and took place over three days. Isner finishes his 17-year pro career with 14,470 aces, a record that is unlikely to be broken anytime soon.

“DNA has been really extremely helpful for us, with the Rapid DNA,” said Alison Galloway, professor emerita of anthropology at the University of California-Santa Cruz, who helped identify remains during the Camp Fire. “If you don’t have that … then it’s a lot more difficult.”In general, forensic experts rely on DNA, dental analysis, fingerprints, medical hardware or circumstantial evidence to try to identify remains. “We’re still diligently working trying to make sure that we can identify (remains), and that’s why that DNA is so important, because we got fingerprints from three,” he said. Galloway, the forensics professor, said one of the advantages of the Rapid DNA technology is in quickly determining whether a DNA swab is usable. Maui asks for family members to come forwardFor Rapid DNA to work, family members of the missing have to willingly submit to DNA swabs.

CNN —The Polynesian demigod Maui was so powerful he could raise islands up from the ocean floor and capture the sun to slow it down. We know Lahaina will be rebuilt, and the government response — city, state and federal — will be a huge part of that. “You can beat the drum of ‘women’s rights’ and defend tooth-and-nail women’s sports, so long as you only do so to denigrate trans women.”For more on the World Cup:Shaista Aziz: This Women’s World Cup has been unlike any other. CNN —Will former President Donald Trump accept a plea deal, potentially sparing himself prison and sparing us all a repeat of his presidency? It’s a compelling argument, and one that would certainly be better for the nation than Trump winning in 2024 and pardoning himself; it would be better for Trump than winding up behind bars. Trump has been embroiled in thousands of lawsuits; he’s the first former president to face federal charges. Betting on a 2024 win is a big gamble for Trump, especially if the consequence of that loss isn’t just humiliation, but a jail cell. Join us on Twitter and FacebookThere is also the question of whether prosecutors would even offer a deal Trump might consider.

Slack's co-founder Cal Henderson shared his thoughts about remote work in an Insider interview. He said young people in some industries may struggle if they're not with colleagues in the office. Salesforce, the software company that owns Slack, recently mandated workers come to the office. It's a very different experience if your VP isn't there in the office with you as you work overnight on something." In regard to Musk's comments Henderson said: "Elon Musk isn't in the office every day because he's the CEO of three companies.

Y Combinator co-founder Paul Graham said remote work "fooled" leaders at the start of the pandemic. Major firms including Amazon, Meta, and Apple have ordered workers back to the office recently. Partly I think because remote work does work initially, if you start with a system already healthy from in-person work ... And partly because it seemed to solve recruiting, which is always a bottleneck." Graham's comments come as a number of major companies reverse their flexible working policies including Amazon, Apple, and Goldman Sachs. Graham joins a list of influential figures who are taking a stand against remote work including Elon Musk who has famously waged a war against the practice calling it "morally wrong."

This is the reality for Apple's Vision Pro mixed-reality headset: It's another pair of nerd goggles that will make most people look decidedly uncool. For now, the Vision Pro has failed to do pull this off. Its hard to imagine Apple Vision Pro ever becoming cool. Would she be impressed by a guy wearing a $3,499 Apple Pro Vision headset? The ultimate goal is probably to pack all the prowess of the Vision Pro into a cool slim pair of glasses.

Scottish Island for Sale, Amenities Not Included

For sale: An uninhabited, 25-acre island with pristine views of the Scottish coastline. The catch: Reaching the island is challenging, and staying there for any length of time even more so. Barlocco Island was listed for sale on Thursday by the Scottish real estate firm Galbraith. It is only accessible by boat or, at low tide, by all-terrain vehicle or foot over a rock causeway. While there are no dwellings or buildings on the island, there is a pebble beach and a flood pond where rainwater could gather in extreme rainfall and provide water for livestock and wildlife.
"Climate change is an existential risk and a risk to investor returns," said John Galloway, who oversees the Pennsylvania firm's engagement and proxy voting at portfolio companies, in an interview by teleconference. Galloway said in practice the proposal, which won 42% support, would have required a wholesale change to Valero's business, a decision best left to the board. "A proposal that’s asking a company to make a change that’s changing its strategy is not a proposal we're likely to support," Galloway said. U.S. Republican politicians applauded the move as responsive to their efforts to counter many companies' treatment of environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters. Galloway said the decision was driven with an eye on the varied views of its largely retail client base.
The body camera footage opens with an image of the console of the police cruiser as it pulls up to the downtown building. The steering wheel veers wildly from side to side as rookie officer Nickolas Wilt drives the car and his partner, Cory Galloway, shouts directions off camera. After more gunfire, Galloway - who is himself injured - hits the gunman, 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon, from his position out on the steps. "Suspect down," Galloway shouts as he walks into the building. "What you saw on that video was absolutely amazing," Humphrey said after displaying the body camera video from both officers as well as a bystander.

Sonders touted stocks that can weather inflation, recession, and higher interest rates. "You've got recessions in areas like certain segments of consumer goods, certainly in housing," Sonders said during a recent episode of "The Prof G Pod with Scott Galloway." Recession, inflation, and winning stocksSonders sounded the recession alarm during the interview. She singled out the housing market as particularly vulnerable, given valuations and mortgage rates are closely tied to interest rates. She suggested they look for companies that can thrive during periods of inflation, recession, and elevated interest rates.
A 2013 article about Edward Snowden allegedly revealing a global assassination agenda by the U.S. military’s defunct High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) originated on a satirical website, but it has recently circulated online with some users appearing to believe the story is authentic. The clip shows a story published on July 10, 2013 on the Internet Chronicle website, attributed to author Oliver Wilis. The Internet Chronicle “About” page does not explicitly call the site’s content satire, but the description of the publication and its editors is itself satirical (chronicle.su/about/). ChatGPT, like other AI tools, suffers from a bias problem that could impede corporate adoption. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, admitted on Wednesday that ChatGPT has "shortcomings around bias", though he didn't go into detail. Unfortunately for OpenAI, ChatGPT has already had several cases of bias emerge. "You don't have to think very hard to realize there's an enormous quantity of toxic content of absolutely every variety imaginable that's present in that training data." Though OpenAI has found success so far, Wooldridge could see a scenario where the firm is pushed by customers to reveal its training data.
