MANCHESTER, England, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Manchester United and Marcus Rashford are unhappy with his recent performances manager Erik ten Hag has said after the striker's red card contributed to their midweek Champions League loss but the Dutchman believes he will rediscover his form. "We have to win every game, so we are very disappointed if losing any game," Ten Hag said. It's always about being in the process, thinking about the process, and then it's about managing their process. Ten Hag, whose performance as manager has been called into question during his side's poor run of form, was asked if he trusts his players as United flopped after Rashford's red card. Bruno Fernandes scored in added time in United's 1-0 win at Fulham last Saturday that allowed Ten Hag to breathe easy for one night at least.

Before the mayhem of Monday's home defeat against Chelsea, Wolves away would have been viewed as another opportunity for Tottenham to underline their top-four credentials. But that 4-1 reverse, Postecoglou's first setback in the Premier League, could cost the north London club more than a return to top spot and the loss of three points. A tumultuous derby ended with Tottenham having only four of their starting line-up left on the pitch. A home game against City will perhaps say a lot more about whether or not Chelsea have turned a corner. Former midfielder Paul Scholes believes Ten Hag still has some credit left in the bank after last season when United finished third in the Premier League and won the League Cup.

Man United boss Ten Hag laments 'harsh' Rashford red card

"I think first we played very good until the red card. The red card changed everything. Rashford's red card was given after he planted his foot on the ankle of Elias Jelert to protect the ball and it drew the ire of Ten Hag. The loss was United's first in the Champions League in which they led by two or more goals. Ten Hag said the Rashford red was not the first questionable decision that has gone against them this season.

MANCHESTER, England, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Manchester United under-fire manager Erik Ten Hag came out fighting during a media grilling on Friday ahead of his faltering side's Premier League trip to Fulham. Ten Hag, however, remains defiant and said the mood in the camp was to put things right after back-to-back 3-0 home losses to Manchester City and Newcastle United. But this squad is strong, the staff is strong and this manager is strong to put this right." Eighth-placed United have lost half their Premier League games and five of their first 10 home matches in all competitions. Man Utd show signs of life, but City offer real test

Another not-too-convincing victory at bottom club Sheffield United last weekend was admirable in its own way following the news of club great Bobby Charlton's death before kickoff. City suffered consecutive league defeats before the international break but have answered any doubts with wins over Brighton & Hove Albion and then at Young Boys on Wednesday in the Champions League. Guardiola will need no reminding that City lost at Old Trafford last year, having crushed United 6-3 at home. City also won the FA Cup final against United on their way to matching the Reds' treble of 1999. Sixth-placed Newcastle United will have to shrug off the disappointment of their Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund as they face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

LONDON (AP) — On a day when English soccer mourned the passing of Bobby Charlton, Manchester City and Liverpool got back on track with wins in the Premier League. City and Liverpool bounced back from two straight disappointing results with comfortable wins to reignite a title rivalry that is showing signs of once again going deep into the season. Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland netted for City in the opening 20 minutes, with the Norway striker ending a mini-drought after going two league games without scoring. He has never gone three Premier League games without a goal since joining City last season. City has 21 points from nine games, one more point than Liverpool.

McTominay rescues Man United as Tottenham go top

BURNLEY, England, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Manchester United needed two stoppage-time goals from Scott McTominay to secure a dramatic 2-1 win over Brentford as Tottenham Hotspur went top of the Premier League with a 1-0 victory at Luton Town on Saturday. Boos rang around Old Trafford at halftime as United went into the break trailing Brentford, staring down the barrel of a seventh defeat this season in all competitions. Substitute McTominay rattled home the equaliser after a goalmouth scramble in the 93rd minute and he was not done yet. Trailing with 92:46 on the clock, this was the latest United had been behind in a Premier League game in which they came back to win. Spurs have registered 20 points from their opening eight Premier League games this season and only in 1960-61 have they done so in fewer matches to begin a top-flight campaign.

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — There was relief, at last, for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United after a late 2-1 comeback win against Brentford on Saturday. “It has to be a turning point, but also a restart because we have to get into higher levels," the United manager said. “The spirit is good, the belief is good and the team is together. Prior to the midfielder's late interventions, United was on course for a seventh loss of a season that was threatening to unravel. Marc Atkins/Getty ImagesAt the heart of this is a failure in communication by match officials and a failure to put pragmatism before protocol. There is an acceptance that mistakes will happen, and there have been plenty already this season in the Premier League. The release of the audio of the conversations between the match officials would likely influence what Liverpool does next. In rugby union, fans can listen to discussions between match officials on crucial decisions, making the process clear and open for all. The immediate consequence has been that VAR officials England and Cook have not been selected to feature in this weekend’s Premier League games.

VAR officials replaced after offside error in Liverpool defeat

However, the goal was ruled out by the referee for offside. The referees' body, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), later admitted it was the wrong decision to disallow Diaz's effort, blaming human error, and "should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention". In a statement on Sunday, the PGMOL said: "Darren England, VAR on the Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool fixture, and Dan Cook, (assistant VAR) on the same game, have been replaced for the Nottingham Forest v Brentford and Fulham v Chelsea matches today and tomorrow night respectively. Pochettino hoping Chelsea can build momentum after Brighton win

Sept 28 (Reuters) - Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino said his team "fully deserved" Wednesday's 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the League Cup and hopes the result will help kickstart their stuttering Premier League campaign. Chelsea are 14th in the league after only one win from six games so far, having drawn two and lost three, and have managed just five goals in the competition. I think it's important to go through in the competition, build our trust and the momentum. Left back Ben Chilwell was forced off late in the contest, with Pochettino saying it appeared to be a hamstring injury. Chelsea return to Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to Fulham.

Fightbacks were the order of the day as Liverpool recovered from falling behind to win 3-1 at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the early kickoff and two goals deep into stoppage time earned Tottenham Hotspur a 2-1 win over Sheffield United. United fell behind in the 20th minute when Danny Welbeck slotted home against his former club when left unmarked in the penalty area. Sept 14 (Reuters) - Luton Town manager Rob Edwards said it was disrespectful to dismiss the club's chances of retaining their Premier League status after just three games, as he called on his side to embrace the challenge of proving their doubters wrong. Luton, who are back in the top flight after a 31-year absence, have lost all three of their league games this season, conceding nine goals and scoring twice. In a BBC column earlier this month, former Tottenham Hotspur striker and pundit Garth Crooks said he couldn't take Luton seriously, adding he was expecting to "see them down by Christmas". Asked about the comments, Edwards told reporters: "I think after three games it is disrespectful (to say we are certain to be relegated). "Every game is an opportunity for us to get points and we have to see it like that," Edwards added.

Sancho to train away from Man Utd first team

England international Sancho was omitted from United's squad for a 3-1 league loss to Arsenal on Sept. 3, with manager Ten Hag stating he had been left out because of poor training performance. Sancho, who joined United from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021, had a prolonged absence last season during which he was training separately from the United squad. "Jadon Sancho will remain on a personal training programme away from the first-team group, pending resolution of a squad discipline issue," United said in a statement. United's season has been marred by off-field issues. United are 11th in the Premier League with six points from four games, and they next host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Wasteful Everton rue missed chances in Sheffield United draw

For the third time this season Everton created more than enough chances to take all three points, but just like against Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers, they were not clinical enough in the opposition box. "The chance count has been getting better game by game and was decent again today. We got into some really good areas, and we keep looking a threat, but you have to score," Dyche said. "It is just the basics sometimes which are tripping us up, because I felt a lot of the performance was right again. "I feel like it is one that got away, we had enough in the game to win."
