Dec 25 (Reuters) - Taylor Fritz said that if a men's player on the ATP Tour came out as gay, he would be welcomed by his peers, the top-ranked American told tennis publication Clay. While leading players past and present on the WTA Tour have come out as gay, no male player competing at the sport's top level has done the same so far. "I'm not sure if there are homosexual tennis players in the top 100," Fritz said in an interview published on Sunday. I think it is odd, because I feel like a player would be accepted. An ATP Tour survey of players earlier this year found that 75% had reported having heard other players use homophobic slurs, leading the tour to partner with You Can Play, an organization committed to furthering LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports.

Fritz, the highest-seeded American in the draw beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-5 6-2 on the back of a decent first serve despite trailing by a break in the opening set. He's got weapons on both sides, he's extremely quick as well, so there's nowhere you can really play with a lot of safety," Fritz said. "Felix has played really, really well, so he deserves it, but I am going to try to steal his spot this week for sure." Frances Tiafoe also moved into the second round without conceding a break point with a 6-4 6-4 win over Lorenzo Sonego while fellow American Maxime Cressy ousted Argentine Diego Schwartzman 6-3 6-3. Defending champion Novak Djokovic, world number one Carlos Alcaraz, Rafa Nadal and Daniil Medvedev are among the main seeds who received a bye into the second round.

REUTERS/Chris HelgrenOct 20 (Reuters) - Union Pacific Corp (UNP.N) on Thursday cut its annual volume growth forecast despite a rise in third-quarter shipments, as the U.S. railroad operator struggles with worker shortages. "Inflationary pressures and operational inefficiencies continued to challenge us," Union Pacific Chief Executive Officer Lance Fritz said in a statement. The company trimmed its forecast for full-year volume growth to about 3% from 4%-5%, even after a 3% rise in the third quarter led by higher coal and renewables shipments. Excluding a $114 million charge from the tentative labor deal, the company posted a net income of $3.19 per share, ahead of Refinitiv IBES estimates of $3.06 per share.
