Roland Dumas, a former French foreign minister, agile political fixer and star defense lawyer whose taste for living large proved his undoing, died on July 3 in Paris. The office of President Emmanuel Macron of France announced his death in a statement, which did not specify a cause. A longtime confidant of François Mitterrand, the Socialist former president, Mr. Dumas was one of the highest-profile officials in France for two decades. Mr. Dumas avoided jail, but his conviction, which was eventually overturned, ended his career. He had already been forced to resign from the presidency of the Constitutional Council, France’s highest appeals body.

Jitters have spread through France's bond market in recent weeks. Meanwhile, the gap (or spread) between French bond yields and German bond yields had topped 85 basis points in recent weeks, hitting its highest level since 2012. He added that the chances of a confrontation with Brussels remained with the left-wing alliance, but not to the same extent as if the National Rally had won.

Ben Vautier, a French artist and agitator who often worked under the moniker Ben, and who as a core member of the anti-art collective Fluxus blurred the boundaries of high and low, art and life, while adhering to the credo “Everything is art,” died on June 5 at his home in Nice, France. CNN —Ben, the French artist best known for his irreverent approach to modern art, has died aged 88, taking his own life hours after the death of his wife, his family said in a statement Wednesday. Annie Vautier, Ben’s wife, died at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, having suffered a stroke on Monday, the Vautier family said in a statement posted to the Facebook page of the family gallery. “Unwilling and unable to live without her, Ben killed himself a few hours later at their home,” in the south of France, the artist’s family announced. Ben poses next to one of his art works during his exhibition 'Strip-tease integral' at the Museum of Modern Art in March 2010. His works have been exhibited around the world, from the Museum of Modern Art in New York to the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney.

European chip stock ASML "is almost in a quasi-monopoly position" to drive developments in artificial intelligence over the next decade, according to fund manager Marcus Morris-Eyton. Its customers include TSMC , which makes the AI chips designed by Nvidia , AMD and Intel , as well as Samsung and SK Hynix . Shares fell by 7% on the day as the company provided what analysts labeled "soft" guidance for the current quarter. Earlier this week, the company opened a test laboratory for its next-generation lithography equipment with Belgium chip research firm Imec. "Ultimately, if you need AI, if you need [electric vehicles], if you need data centers, you need more chips," Morris-Eyton added.
