Passengers who were on British Airways’ Flight 112, from Kennedy International Airport in New York to Heathrow Airport outside London, received some good news early Thursday morning. The flight, which normally would have taken about six hours, was going to arrive 50 minutes early. An Emirates flight on Tuesday from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates was supposed to take 13 hours 44 minutes. It landed 57 minutes early, according to FlightAware.

WHP Global, the toy store’s parent company, announced an expansion of up to 24 flagship stores, as well as opening stores at airports and cruise ships. The stores for the cruise industry will sell cruise-themed merchandise, though Toys “R” Us did not specify on which cruise lines or where the stores will open. Toys R Us is plotting a bold comeback in the U.S., as it plans to expand its brick-and-mortar presence with as many as 24 new flagship stores and a separate rollout at airports and on cruise ships starting this holiday season. Toys R Us aims to start opening the up to two dozen flagship stores as early as next year in partnership with Go! In summer 2021, WHP announced a rollout of more than 400 new Toys R Us stores at Macy's locations across the country. WHP told CNBC the new flagship stores will be modeled after the American Dream location with "immersive" shopping experiences.

That’s potentially bad news for gas prices. What’s happening: Gas prices are already at $3.82 a gallon. Geopolitical tensions have been supporting high oil and gas prices for some time. In 2005, for example, gas prices surged by 46% between Memorial Day and Labor Day because of the landfall of Hurricane Katrina, according to Bespoke. “Energy prices have been a major contributor to persistently high inflation in the US, so the crude oil price will remain a watch-out factor for future inflation.”High oil and gas prices are one of the largest contributing factors to inflation.

CNN —American Airlines is facing the largest-ever fine for keeping passengers waiting on board airplanes during hours-long delays. The Department of Transportation is levying the $4.1 million fine, “the largest civil penalty that the Department has ever assessed” it said in a statement, for lengthy tarmac delays of 43 flights that impacted more than 5,800 passengers. In the longest of the delays, passengers sat aboard a plane in Texas in August 2020 for six hours and three minutes. Current rules also require airlines provide passengers water and a snack. American would pay $2.05 million of the fine to the government and has been credited for paying the other half in passenger compensation.

The agency said the fine was the largest penalty it had ever doled out for tarmac delays. A majority of the delays occurred at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, the largest hub for American Airlines. Others took place at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, San Antonio International Airport and Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington. “This is the latest action in our continued drive to enforce the rights of airline passengers,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement. “Whether the issue is extreme tarmac delays or problems getting refunds, D.O.T.

Many airlines, corporate fliers and governments see so-called sustainable aviation fuel, or SAF, as a way to reduce aviation’s contribution to global warming. It recently converted an oil refinery in California and is expanding its refineries in Singapore and Rotterdam. We worked on a former fossil-fuel refinery and converted that into a renewable refinery. The carbon footprint of aviation can be affected today from today’s SAF technology. It will continue to incentivize current SAF production, but it will be difficult to be the impetus for future production.

A woman passenger who appears in a viral video of a disruption on an American Airlines flight in July is not named Jenna Wilson, a spokesperson for the airline said. The passenger also has not been charged with hate crimes, according to a Department of Justice spokesperson. But a tweet from a parody account calling her Jenna Wilson and claiming she faces federal hate crimes charges for disrupting the flight while insisting another passenger was “not real” has been taken seriously by users online. American Airlines spokesperson Sarah Jantz said in an email on July 12 that the name of the passenger in the viral clip is not “Jenna Wilson”. A search for “Jenna Wilson” with the airline name does not lead to any credible news reports supporting the claim (tinyurl.com/54wve59w).

Policies around plus-size travelers tend to vary from airline to airline. However, the rule only applies to domestic flights, which means that plus-size travelers still need to buy an extra seat when going on an international flight. CNN —Following the harassment of WNBA star Brittney Griner at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Phoenix Mercury’s leadership plans to make adjustments to prioritize players’ travel safety, head coach Vanessa Nygaard said Sunday. When asked if Griner was approved to charter flights and why she wasn’t chartering on Saturday, Nygaard said the team was following league-established rules and guidelines. Griner’s longtime teammate and WNBA star Diana Taurasi said that the harassment occurred during the team’s first public appearance since Griner’s release. Describing the incident as “unnerving,” Taurasi said the players’ safety comes first. “We implore the league and the teams not to wait another day to change the rule regarding travel.”

Derick Andrew and his brother were stranded in Dallas for two days after their flight was canceled. Two American Airlines passengers were left stranded for two days and had to pay for their own hotel and food after their connecting flight was canceled. The brothers, both 35, found out their flight got canceled when they got to Dallas Fort Worth International airport. "We were told unambiguously 'no,' that we would not get a refund for a flight canceled due to weather," Andrew told Insider. "I contacted AA through the app again and said regulation shows I should be reimbursed for the canceled flight and they said we could get a refund if we didn't rebook another flight."
