SpaceX launched its fifth test flight of its Starship rocket on Sunday and made a dramatic first catch of the rocket's more than 20-story tall booster. Goldman Environmental Prize winner Andrea Vidaurre said her award-winning efforts to improve air quality in California are very much tied to her own experiences. Vidaurre, who is Peruvian American, was born and raised in California’s Inland Empire, which is east of Los Angeles and has some of the country’s worst air quality. “It is really personal to me because they are the front lines of all of this,” she said. “If you live anywhere in the region, you’re impacted by air quality.”Vidaurre was one of six people around the globe — one for each inhabited continent — who were awarded what’s been referred to as the “Green Nobel” earlier this year. Other states have also adopted California’s regulations, meaning that Vidaurre’s work has had a national impact.

The number of Republican women in the House has tripled to a record 36, including two nonvoting members. Others involved in the effort to boost GOP women are also hopeful they can reach a new milestone this year. The number of House candidates has dropped overall since 2022, a redistricting year that brought a surge of new candidates. The Center for Women and Politics found the steepest drop was among Republican women. For Stefanik, the effort to recruit more GOP women to run for the House has been a resounding success.

The Saints, one week after blowing out the lowly Carolina Panthers, did the same in Dallas to the high-flying Cowboys. In July’s NYT/Siena poll of Pennsylvania, Biden’s popularity was well underwater among likely voters, with 39% viewing him favorably and 59% viewing him unfavorably (-20 net rating). By comparison, 45% had a favorable view of former President Donald Trump, while 52% had an unfavorable view (-7 net rating). Half of likely voters view Harris favorable and 48% view her unfavorably (+2 net rating) in Pennsylvania. As for Trump, his rating in Pennsylvania is now at 48% favorable and 51% unfavorable (-3 net rating). An analysis of newly described Homo floresiensis fossils published Tuesday in the journal Nature Communications attempts to answer some of these questions about the tiny human. Liang Bua cave is the only other place where hobbit fossils have been found. The Mata Menge humerus fragment (left) is shown at the same scale as the humerus of Homo floresiensis from Liang Bua. Overall, the research suggested that the hobbit species’ small size remained remarkably constant over a long period. “Every tiny fragment of Homo floresiensis or any other hominin is incredibly important,” Tocheri said.
