DETROIT, Sept 29 (Reuters) - The United Auto Workers are set to expand their strike of Detroit Three factories and walk off the job at General Motors (GM.N) and Ford (F.N), UAW president Shawn Fain said on Friday. "Despite our willingness to bargain Ford and GM have refused to make meaningful progress," Fain said in a video address Friday morning. A strike by the United Auto Workers union against the Detroit automakers would help President Joe Biden and other politicians pick a side when it comes to organized labor, UAW President Shawn Fain said Wednesday night. Fain said the union is set to meet Thursday morning with GM, following a Wednesday afternoon meeting with Ford. Stellantis said Wednesday that it "intends to pass the UAW a counter offer to the members' economic demands by the end of the week." "He must know something we don't know. I don't know but he's on the inside on something I don't know about," Fain told reporters during a Labor Day event in Detroit.

DETROIT (AP) — The head of the United Auto Workers warned Wednesday that the union plans to go on strike against any Detroit automaker that hasn't reached a new agreement by the time contracts expire next week. “That’s the plan,” President Shawn Fain responded when asked if the union would strike any of the companies that haven’t reached a tentative deal by the time their national contracts end. In an interview with The Associated Press, Fain left open the possibility of avoiding a strike. He acknowledged, more explicitly than he has before, that the union will have to give up some of its demands to reach agreements. Last week, the union filed charges of unfair labor practices against Stellantis and GM, and it said Ford's economic offer fell far short of its demands.

DETROIT — United Auto Workers has filed unfair labor practice charges against automakers General Motors and Stellantis to the National Labor Relations Board for not bargaining with the union in good faith or a timely manner, UAW President Shawn Fain said Thursday night. The union did not file a complaint against Ford Motor , as Fain said the company responded to the UAW's demands with a counterproposal he heavily criticized. "GM and Stellantis' willful refusal to bargain in good faith is not only insulting and counterproductive, it's also illegal," Fain said during a Facebook Live. "That's why today, our union filed unfair labor practice charges, or ULPs, against both GM and Stellantis with the National Labor Relations Board." Regarding Ford's recent proposal, Fain called it "concessionary."

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday examined the ramifications a strike by the United Auto Workers union would have on the big three U.S. automakers. The union will vote on whether to strike next week, and if they decide to do so it could cost automakers billions. But Cramer said he doesn't think investors should rush to sell off their auto shares, saying he feels the strike is a one-time cost that these companies can bounce back from. Cramer noted that auto stocks are already down from their highs in a short period of time. Cramer also said he doubts the agreement UAW would eventually reach with automakers will be at the level of Fain's current demands.

A UAW spokesman declined immediate comment on Stewart's letter, but earlier this week UAW President Shawn Fain called the Stellantis proposals "trash" and tossed a copy of them in a waste basket in live streamed remarks.
