New York CNN —President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr, wasted no time in stating his priorities on Sunday night. Carr is now the senior Republican at the agency, which meant he was widely expected to get the chairman appointment. As chairman, Carr may be able to steer generous federal subsidies to Starlink. In his Project 2025 chapter, Carr laid out an agenda for the federal agency under a future Trump administration. The FCC chairman during Trump’s first term in office, Ajit Pai, had a very different set of priorities.

Brendan Carr speaks during a House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology Hearing titled Connecting America. President-elect Donald Trump will tap Brendan Carr, a critic of the Biden administration's telecom policies and Big Tech, as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, he said in a statement on Sunday. Carr, 45, is currently the top Republican on the FCC, the independent agency that regulates telecommunications. Last week, Carr wrote to Meta's Facebook, Alphabet's Google , Apple and Microsoft saying they had taken steps to censor Americans. Trump also sued CBS over its "60 Minutes" interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Carr is an ally of Elon Musk and has previously gone to bat for his company, Starlink. President-elect Donald Trump's nomination of Brendan Carr to chair the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) isn't just a win for conservative opponents of Big Tech. Elon Musk has transformed long-dormant industries, and he’s developed a first principles “production algorithm” to deliver results. In 2022, the FCC denied SpaceX nearly $886 million in government subsidies to provide satellite internet access in rural areas via the company's Starlink service. It's still proving itself as a viable internet service provider and is relatively expensive for the quality, CNN reported in August.

And by the way, I do believe that President Trump has the ability to pick some really, really good people. We've seen what they've done to President Trump, we've seen the attacks that they continue to go after him with. That's - that’s being taken completely out of context. And President Trump hasn't been the one that weaponized the DOJ to go after his political enemies. I think that's a pretty controversial pick, from whatever pronoun that he or he - he or she decides to use.

As an unwed woman and frequent wedding guest in 2024, I am maybe too attuned to the ways weddings have become increasingly extravagant. On Reddit, one user noted that being a bridesmaid in her best friend’s wedding in a Scandinavian town, where the friend’s family is from, is going to run her $8,000. And some guests are being denied plus-ones, making attending the wedding less of a joy and more of a dutiful chore. Even in times of high inflation, like now, while some may try to cut back, expensive weddings prevail. Weddings are the rare time in life where everyone you care about will likely come together — friends, family and loved ones.

But if your device is filled with too much digital clutter, it could be affecting your mental health and productivity, experts say. But sometimes, the common behavior can tip over into a disorder that more researchers are trying to understand: digital hoarding. Here’s how to ease up on digital clutter and know when you might be displaying signs of a disorder, according to experts. “Digital clutter is just as stressful as actual clutter in our physical world,” she said. CNN —The Pentagon has received hundreds of reports of new UFO sightings, including “several particularly interesting cases,” according to the director of the office that investigates these reports, but reiterated it found no evidence of alien activity. The Pentagon, working with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and other government agencies, has received a total of 1,652 reports to date, according to the newly released annual report, including 757 new reports between May 2023 and June 2024. The topic of UAPs has garnered tremendous public attention, fueled in part by its inextricable link to UFO sightings and conspiracy theories about the US government hiding evidence of aliens. “It is also important to underscore that, to date, AARO has discovered no verifiable evidence of extraterrestrial beings, activity, or technology,” said Kosloski. None of these closed cases were the result of foreign adversaries or a breakthrough in advanced technologies, AARO said in their report.
