Some Spotify users this year lambasted the music streaming app's popular year-end round-up, Wrapped. When Spotify dropped its viral year-end musical round-up Wrapped earlier this month, the disappointment online was palpable. Advertisement"I'm not usually one to complain but this was one of the most boring Spotify Wrapped recaps I've been a part of and I've been a member since 2017," Business Insider reported a Reddit user said. AdvertisementWhile some users called it a flop, a Spotify spokesperson told Business Insider it was the biggest year yet for the music streaming app's year-end round-up. "In the first 12 hours this year's Wrapped was the biggest we've seen, up over 26% compared to day one in 2023," the Spotify spokesperson told BI.

He says VaynerX has doubled its revenue in the past five years by diversifying beyond social media. AdvertisementSerial entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk built an advertising empire over the past 15 years by helping companies like PepsiCo and Mondelez jump on social media trends. Most significantly: Its revenue has more than doubled in the past five years, Vaynerchuk said — a feat that way outpaces the ad industry overall. The company started offering consulting in 2022, helping marketers with things like social media strategy and corporate communications. Vaynerchuk still evangelizes to CMOs about the importance of social media marketing.

Rebels toppled the Assad regime in Syria after a brutal 13-year civil war. "With the overthrow of Assad, Iran has been dealt a strategic blow, meeting overarching US objectives to diminish and dismantle Iran's so-called axis of resistance," she said. The US provided training and support for some rebel groups, notably Kurdish militias and moderate groups, but stopped short of direct involvement in the conflict. Both countries will likely act "swiftly" to strike favorable deals with emerging power brokers in Syria, he said. After a decade of interviewing and studying more than 1,000 workers — from Fortune 500 CEOs to Chipotle kitchen managers — Harvard researchers might have cracked the code to being happier at work. The secret, according to the researchers, is to focus on progress over perfection in your career, which leads to greater fulfillment than chasing a "dream job" that ticks all of your boxes. In other words, "identify what energizes you, understand what your priorities are and embrace the trade-offs needed to get there," Michael B. Horn, a co-author of the research and lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, tells CNBC Make It. The findings are detailed in "Job Moves," a new book co-authored by Horn; Ethan Bernstein, a professor at Harvard Business School; and Robert Moesta, CEO and founder of consulting firm The Re-Wired Group. Letting go of the "dream job" ideal doesn't mean abandoning ambition — it's about building a more satisfying and balanced career, Horn explains.

How Netflix Made Magic Look Real in ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ The series, which will be released this week, adapts the novel for the screen for the first time. The author always refused, insisting that his novel, in which the real and fantastical converge, could never be rendered onscreen. Built by Netflix from the ground up for the first-ever screen adaptation of the novel, the town has real birds nesting in its trees and dogs wandering its narrow streets. To recreate Macondo, Netflix also relied on museums, documents, researchers and historians. Because of the care brought to that effort, the details accumulate to make Macondo seem real, said Enríquez, the production designer.

Nearly 100 former national security officials signed a letter criticizing President-elect Donald Trump's decision to nominate former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence and called for closed-door Senate hearings to review any government information about her. In the letter obtained by NBC News, the officials urged the Senate to "carefully evaluate" whether Gabbard is "equipped" for the position, which requires Senate confirmation. "Following her trip to Syria, for example, Ms. Gabbard aligned herself with Russian and Syrian officials." The former officials also proposed closed-door hearings that would allow lawmakers to fully review any government files on Gabbard, a former Democratic House member from Hawaii. Reached for comment, a spokesperson for Gabbard on the Trump transition team slammed the letter, as well as the signers' credentials.

AdvertisementVaynerchuk, also known as Gary Vee, has built a legion of fans, many of whom are young men, by evangelizing hard work. His schtick lands with a generation that's grown up with — and is now exhausted by — social media, which encourages constant comparisons with others. Advertisement"In the beginning, it was, 'That's dumb, that's dumb,'" Jon Halvorson, SVP of Mondelez and a longtime client, said of Vaynerchuk's rhetoric. CMOs no longer have to be convinced to embrace social media, and many have even bypassed agencies like VaynerX altogether to take that work in-house. Shortly after Nattie Powell’s daughter turned 1 year old, Powell bought her a toddler-sized Christmas tree toy just in time for the 2023 holiday season. Powell, who often records herself DIYing various holiday decor and household objects, thought painting the tree neutral colors would better suit the aesthetic of her living room. But once she posted the updated toy — dark green with brown ornaments — commenters quickly called her out on a “beige mom” activity. It is OK to be a ‘beige mom’Powell’s daughter didn’t seem to care, playing with the toy tree without complaint, she said. “Mothers shouldn’t feel judged or stressed out about if they choose to embrace the ‘beige mom’ trend or not,” said Poon, who is also the chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ section on developmental and behavioral pediatrics.

Responsible AI use creates advantages for employees and employers alike. By measuring the effectiveness of AI tools over time, HR and talent teams can better understand its long-term implications. But the key to success in using those AI tools is recognizing both their utility and their limitations. Causey recommends evaluating potential AI vendors by asking questions about their thoughts on responsible AI and how they comply with AI-specific regulations. Organizations using AI tools should continue to track these traditional indicators, while also looking further out — and consider other measurable areas that may be impacted over time.

President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet selections are a mix of conventional (Senator Marco Rubio and Gov. Doug Burgum) and oddball (Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.) — reflecting the heterodox coalition that brought him back to power. While never a traditional Republican, Mr. Trump, in a second term, looks likely to go further than in his first in dumping many traditional Republican policies. In particular, Mr. Trump seems willing, even eager, to embrace vice. In his recent campaign, Mr. Trump embraced a strategy of social moderation.

Apple is currently using Amazon Web Services' custom artificial intelligence chips for services like search and will evaluate if the company's latest AI chip can be used to pre-train its models like Apple Intelligence. Benoit Dupin, Apple's senior director of machine learning and AI, took the stage to discuss how Apple uses the cloud service. Apple uses those cloud services, too. Benoit said that Apple had used AWS for over a decade for services including Siri, Apple Maps and Apple Music. Apple has used Amazon's Trainium and Graviton chips to serve search services, for example, and Benoit said that Amazon's chips had led to a 40% efficiency gain.
