The Senate is poised to take a key vote on major legislation to keep kids safe online Thursday- the most sweeping regulation of the tech industry in more than a decade. said the measures social media companies have put in place are "not sufficient." One, known as the Children and Teens' Online Privacy Protection Act, would ban targeted ads to kids and teens. Social media companies would have to automatically enable the strongest privacy setting for kids. But House Speaker Mike Johnson said in an interview that Americans need to have more power over what their kids see online.

So what better time to shame yourself about your fitness and body image than during a gathering of the world’s top athletes? But doing so is a losing game. Not everyone can optimize their body for performance the way Olympians do, experts say. Optimizing their bodies for performance is a full-time job for Olympians, she said. You can be inspired to set healthy physical goalsThere are positive ways you can be inspired by Olympians, however, and these can help you approach your goals, Mason said.

Read previewAdministered ketamine is being used in concert with therapy to treat Ukrainian veterans who experience post-traumatic stress disorder from fighting on the battlefield. AdvertisementA study published earlier this year focused on the treatment of depression among veterans using ketamine taken through an IV. The doses provided at least partial relief to many of the test subjects and after six weeks of ketamine infusions, depression scores dropped significantly. "Soldiers, for them, it's natural to consider themselves like a strong man," Matrenitsky said, explaining that the effects of the ketamine therapy allow individuals to overcome defensive barriers over their emotions. In partnership with Heal Ukraine Trauma, Matrenitsky along with other healthcare professionals have teamed up to form the Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy initiative in hopes of educating Ukrainian therapists on Ketamine-Assisted Therapy.

Listening to the album's lead single, "Woman's World," I have to assume it's a portal to the past. In the music video for "Woman's World," Perry's visuals are clearly meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Five people are credited as songwriters for "What Makes a Woman," but none overlap with the six writers credited for "Woman's World." She wanted Dr. Luke and all the baggage he brings; all four other songwriters on "Woman's World" are Dr. Luke collaborators or signees. Comfort and connectionIn addition to all the messages about what people should look like, the physical sensations of summer often bring increased attention to people’s bodies, Campos said. For a better relationship with your body this summer, Campos recommends finding ways to connect with yourself in more enjoyable ways. “That is a connected moment where I can say, ‘This feels good in my body,’” Campos said. “When somebody’s having a hard body image day … I want them to check in about what else is going on,” she said. “You might feel better, but it doesn’t actually change anything in your body.

What it’s like to live with a sleep eating disorder

And that’s what I did for years and years and years.”Jill is living with sleep-related eating disorder, also known as sleep eating — an arousal condition in which part of the brain wakes while the rest sleeps. Sleep eating is a parasomnia, an abnormal or unusual behavior during sleep, similar to sleepwalking, sleep talking, sleep terrors, and sleep sex, or sexsomnia. Ultraprocessed foods such as candy, cookies, cakes, doughnuts, chips and crackers are preferred choices during sleep eating, Schenck said. “All those can be the ultimate causes of sleep-related eating disorder, and that’s why in medicine, we call that a final common pathway disorder. “We studied a group of sleep-related eating patients in the lab, and they had periodic limb movements along with the sleep eating,” he said.

CNN —French authorities have recorded more than 50 physical assaults on candidates and campaigners on the campaign trail, the country’s Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said Friday as concerns mount about political violence ahead of France’s high-stakes parliamentary elections. However, we have counted 51 candidates, deputies, or campaigners who have been physically assaulted. The attacks have ranged from the less severe to “extremely serious,” Darmanin said, adding that some candidates have been hospitalised for their injuries. Roughly thirty or so people have been taken in for questioning in relation to the attacks, Darmanin added. In Cherbourg, a center-right candidate from The Republicans party, Nicolas Conquer, made a formal complaint after he claimed he was assaulted by left-wing campaigners on Monday.

ARFID: the eating disorder you haven’t heard of

Now 8 years old, Hannah is being treated for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, or ARFID. Unlike eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia nervosa, this diagnosis isn’t concerned with body shape or size, said Kate Dansie, clinical director of the Eating Disorder Center in Rockville, Maryland. Instead, people with ARFID are very limited in the foods they feel safe and comfortable eating, Dansie said. While an estimated 9% of the US population will have an eating disorder at some point, studies suggest that somewhere between 0.5% and 5% of the population has ARFID, according to the National Eating Disorders Association. One way to spot the difference is the level of impairment and anxiety that comes with facing a new food, Murray said.

Weight gain is also a reason why some stop their medications despite feeling less depressed or anxious while using them. Now, a new study sheds light on just how much weight gain might occur — on average — while taking eight of the most commonly prescribed antidepressants. Weight gain by poundsThe study, published Monday in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine, used electronic health record prescription and body mass to compare weight gain among more than 183,000 people. Not all patients perceive weight gain negatively, although it is more common for patients to want to avoid weight gain than to seek it when taking an antidepressant, Petimar said. “Our study didn’t explore reasons why bupropion was associated with less weight gain than other antidepressants, but other studies have similarly concluded that it is associated with less weight gain than other common antidepressants,” he added.

“I really gravitated towards the sugary ultraprocessed foods — it was like a physical drive, I had to have it,” he said. While many people addicted to food will say that their symptoms began to worsen significantly in adolescence, some recall a childhood focused on ultraprocessed food. The Institute of Food Technologists, an association of food professionals and technologists, does not agree with the research on ultraprocessed food addiction. “Children who eat a lot of ultraprocessed foods could well be malnourished.”According to the International Food and Beverage Alliance, however, there is no clear, objective, reliable or scientifically validated definition for “ultraprocessed” food. “Each time I would pray, ‘Please be it, please make this the answer.’ But I would ultimately start binging on ultraprocessed foods,” Odwazny said.

Food hoarding can vary depending on the access the person has to buying food, Daigle said. It is interesting to talk about food hoarding after the lockdowns of the Covid-19 pandemic, because food hoarding served a purpose in that time, Daigle said. Some people engaging in food hoarding behaviors may isolate out of shame or feel more comfortable being around food versus being out in public. Some eating disorders have food hoarding as part of their behaviors, and the same experience may drive people to cope with both hoarding and eating disorder behaviors, she said. But shortages of other things children need may also lead to food hoarding, Daigle said.

The unprecedented move makes New York the first state to pass a law regulating social media algorithms amid nationwide allegations that apps such as Instagram or TikTok have hooked users with addictive features. Instagram to crack down on teen sextortion
  + stars: | 2024-04-11 | by ( Samantha Murphy Kelly | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +4 min
The company announced on Thursday it is testing new features to curb an alarming trend called financial sextortion, which often targets kids and teenagers. Once the nude images are sent, the scammers claim they’ll post them online, either on public websites or on newsfeeds where their friends will see, unless the victims send money or gift cards. In the upcoming weeks and among a subset of users, Instagram said it will roll out various new features, such as blurring nude images sent in direct messages and informing users when they’ve interacted with someone who engaged in financial sextortion. But the FBI recently said it has seen an increase in financial sextortion cases from strangers, often started by scammers overseas. Meta said it is also working on ways to identify accounts that may be engaging in sextortion scams by detecting and monitoring likely sextortion behavior.
