"I have worked with more than 50 VCs and nobody comes close to what it is like to work with Mark Suster," said a founder backed by Suster. "Mark and the Upfront Summit helped put LA tech and investing on the map," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, the cofounder of DreamWorks and WndrCo. Several years ago, a founder whose startup Suster invested in was in a conference room rehearsing their presentation for the Upfront Summit. And I'd say, 'Because I'm old?' Sweedler, who lives in a retirement home in Connecticut, is proud of the way she's retained her faculties: "I don't talk like an old lady." It probably helps that she doesn't think of herself that way: "I don't feel that I'm old," says Sweedler, who turned 103 in December. "I don't feel old, that's the truth." ConnectBoth Hodes and Sweedler wax rhapsodic about the importance of family and especially a good marriage: "There's nothing better," Sweedler declares.
Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's Impact, a LinkedIn-like platform for Hollywood, recently raised $15 million. Hiring below-the-line crew members has largely been an offline process based on personal networks, Impact CEO Tyler Mitchell said. "We would have to find where the productions are, and more than anything, get people, whether they're independent films or other productions, using our products," he said. "I don't think there's a scenario where people will be using Impact to source 100 percent of a crew. The company has a database of 1.3 million people, including 30,000 crew members who are active users.

Arlington, Va. When I was a teenager in the 1980s, popular culture had basically one message on the Vietnam War: that it was conceived in American arrogance, was perpetrated by American savages, and accomplished little but psychological devastation and national disgrace. Francis Ford Coppola ’s “Apocalypse Now” (1979), Oliver Stone ’s “Platoon” (1986) and “Born on the Fourth of July” (1989), Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket” (1987), Brian De Palma ’s “Casualties of War” (1989)—these and a thousand other productions, documentaries and articles told my generation that the war had been a gigantic fiasco that turned those who fought it into war criminals and frowning, guilt-ridden drug addicts.

The Black Theatre Coalition said it aimed “to remove the ‘ILLUSION OF INCLUSION’ in the American Theatre,” by combating racism and providing more work opportunities for Black artists, according to the group’s mission statement. “I hope there’s an Angelica Ross backstage, whether that’s in stage management, whether that’s in front of the house,” he said.
This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Jean Franzblau, an intimacy coordinator based in Los Angeles, CA. My first intimacy coordinator job was 'Blonde,' Netflix's new NC-17 filmThe original intimacy coordinator who worked on "Blonde," the new Marilyn Monroe biopic, recommended that I replace her when she had to leave the production. Luckily, it worked out well — and once recommended, getting my first intimacy coordinator job on a big production was smooth. Just like any production job, work can be sporadicSometimes I'm working as an intimacy coordinator, and sometimes I'm not. The best way to get started as an intimacy coordinator is to start with student films and short films.
