Eaton and DuPont are both unconventional AI plays, as the data center market grows to meet the demands of the generative AI boom. Wells Fargo Investment Institute last month described rising data center demand as having positive "trickle-down effects" on the industrial sector. WFII wrote that spending from Big Tech firms into data centers, in particular, creates "meaningful downstream impacts" for industrial companies. Amazon Web Services is reportedly investing nearly $150 billion in data centers within the next 15 years to support AI efforts. During a Barclays investor conference in February, CFO Lori Koch said DuPont's data center and AI exposure will help boost the company's electronics business.

The hikes also sweeten the potential total return for their stocks at a time when some Wall Street strategists are shining a light on that performance metric. That performance metric captures not just stock price moves but also gains from reinvested dividends. The difference between stock price performance and total return can be substantial, underscoring the benefits of reinvesting dividends. Consider that over the past 10 years, Linde's stock price has climbed 260%, according to FactSet. Eaton's stock price has climbed 321% over the past decade while its total return is 462%.

DuPont preannounced disappointing earnings results before the opening bell Wednesday, sending the stock down roughly 13%. Operating fourth-quarter EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) is expected to be about $715 million, operating cash flow about $640 million, and adjusted free cash flow is expected to be about $500 million. That compares to estimates, according to FactSet, of $746 million, $573 million and $447 million, respectively. These forecasts represent across-the-board misses versus Street expectations for sales of $3.04 billion, operating EBITDA of $751 million, and earnings of 88 cents per share. Given the slower recovery and impact on 2024 earnings, we are reducing our DuPont price target to $78 per share from $85.

The latest financial results and commentary from the world's biggest third-party chipmaker gave a big boost Thursday to Apple and semiconductor stocks, including artificial intelligence leader Nvidia . Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company , whose customers include the likes of Apple, Nvidia and fellow Club stock Broadcom , said its fourth-quarter revenue from smartphone chips grew a better-than-expected 27% on a quarterly basis. "Let's not overthink it: Apple and Nvidia are the two that are most obvious" beneficiaries from TSMC's results, Jim Cramer said Thursday. Previously, TSMC had said AI chips were on track to become a "low teens" percentage of its revenue. TSMC's results and guidance Thursday offer so-called "read-throughs" on its customers, many of which are Club stocks such as Apple, Nvidia and Broadcom.

Following Monday's trade, Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust will own 870 shares of DD, increasing its weighting to 2.15% from 1.78%. To be fair, the stock deserved to be dinged because it was a mixed quarter from the chemical and material manufacturer. While Q3 beat estimates on EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization), the company lowered its full-year outlook below Street expectations, mostly to reflect some ongoing softness in consumer electronics demand and slower water demand in China. But we remain optimistic the specialty chemicals company's electronics business will turn next year, leading to revived growth. At the same time, DuPont raised concerns about its water and safety solutions business due to ongoing destocking and a weaker China. The electronics and industrial segment is comprised of three subunits: semiconductor technologies, interconnect solutions and industrial solutions. Guidance DuPont shaved its full-year net sales outlook to about $12.17 billion, from a previous range of $12.45 billion to $12.55 billion. The company cited additional channel inventory destocking and slow industrial demand in China, mostly in its water solutions business, for its revised guidance.
