Elon Musk took several jabs at Mark Zuckerberg and Meta while on Joe Rogan's podcast. I mean, Zuck himself doesn't post," Musk said of Twitter rival Threads. Zuckerberg usually posts on Threads every one to two weeks, a far cry from Musk's daily posts on X. Besides trashing Meta, Musk touched on a wide variety of topics, ranging from Tesla's Cybertruck to the courtroom sketches of disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. "Yeah, it's eerily quiet," Musk said after host Joe Rogan called Threads a "ghost town" despite its record-breaking launch.

How to cook mussels at home

How to prepare musselsRemember that mussels are alive until you cook them, and they need to stay alive and breathing until they’re ready to hit the pan. If you won’t be cooking and eating your mussels immediately, use the colander method as noted above to store the mussels until you’re ready to use them. How to cook musselsUnlike oysters, which take a bit of practice and skill to shuck, it’s simple to steam mussels. Add the cleaned mussels, cover the pot and cook for about 8-10 minutes until all the mussels have opened. • Mussels in tomato-garlic broth• Spanish mussels with hard chorizo and cream• Beer-steamed mussels• White wine and olive oil-steamed mussels• Mussels in coconut milkCasey Barber is a food writer, artist and editor of the website Good Food Stories.

It was August 2021, during the waning months of the frothy startup bull market, and Fin Capital was on the ascent. The message was a phishing attack — Fin Capital had been hacked. But there is dispute over how Fin Capital handled the attack and its aftermath. Still, as other firms have sharply pulled back on investing in the downturn, Fin Capital has done the opposite. It's unclear whether the whistleblower complaints that former Fin Capital employees filed with the SEC are being investigated.

My childhood was spent in the very waters off the Florida coast that recently registered temperatures in the triple digits. Now they’re no doubt huddled in meetings, contemplating the disaster that will ensue if these uncomfortable water temperatures drive tourists away for good. And Florida is far from the only place where water temperatures are rising. Across the lower latitudes near the Equator, this marine heat wave has been massive. As of late June, it was warm enough to meet the criteria for a marine heat wave.

But it was the tart, earthy, tingly, subtly sweet notes provided by the sumac and Aleppo pepper that made such a lasting impression. Extra-virgin olive oil, yogurt and feta cheese are dietary mainstays, along with seasonal produce, legumes, whole grains and lean proteins. Made from deep-red Halaby chile peppers, Aleppo pepper is named for the Syrian city where it once grew in abundance. Dukkah, a blend of nuts, seeds and warm spices, makes a savory, crunchy topping on everything from soups to salads. Baharat is just one of a combination of warm spices that can punch up a chicken dish the Mediterranean way.

The Supreme Court ruled to overturn race-based affirmative action on Thursday. After the ruling, many focused on John F. Kennedy's underwhelming 1935 Harvard admission essay. The essay, which was first published by The Washington Post in 2013, reappeared on social media on Thursday after the Supreme Court ruled that affirmative action in college admissions was unconstitutional. Although Kennedy's example was extreme and unlikely to cut muster today, US colleges do explicitly favor applicants whose parents went there, via the legacy system. Commentators — including President Joe Biden — on Thursday noted that the legacy system remained untouched by the court ruling.

Insider asked two scientists for simple, effective, and cheap ways to cool down. Put your hands or feet in cold waterIn extreme heat, the body opens up the blood vessels that are close to the skin. Blood carries heat from inside the body to the surface, where it can benefit from the cooling effect of sweat evaporating. Use an electric fan, but be careful in very hot weatherA fan helps cool you down by helping sweat evaporate faster. In dry heat, sweat is already evaporating at maximum efficiency.

What Is a ‘Beige Flag’?
  + stars: | 2023-06-07 | by ( Callie Holtermann | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
To sort through the chaos of modern dating, some taxonomically minded singles apply a color-coded system to potential partners. So what is a beige flag? According to the TikTok users who have latched on to the term in the past month, a beige flag is an odd trait in a romantic prospect that is not quite a deal breaker, but not exactly a plus, either. Dunking Oreos in water instead of milk is a beige flag. As one user put it, a beige flag makes a potential partner or a partner pause and say “Huh?” for a few seconds before carrying on with the relationship.

Billionaires' Row. C. Taylor Crothers/Contributor/Getty ImagesIn "Sky-High: A Critique of NYC's Supertall Towers from Top to Bottom," out from PA Press on June 27 and with photography by Bruce Katz, writer Eric P. Nash dives into the current state of Manhattan development, in which the supertall reigns supreme. It's a generation of architecture he is less than impressed with. He gamely takes turns explaining New York City's new skyline by plucking out its newest additions and dunking on what architect Steven Holl called "profane spires." Nash argues this moment's infatuation with supertalls has choked resources for civic buildings and affordable low-rise housing, and turned big-name architects' attention away from projects that would benefit a larger population because they lack the prestige that supertalls offer.
The strategy is revealed in a detailed internal sales guideline, titled "Generative AI Sales Playbook," obtained by Insider. The guidelines may help Amazon make a stronger push in the generative AI space, where companies including Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google have taken an early lead. 'ChatGPT is a brand new, experimental offering'The guidelines focus on SageMaker's appeal to companies looking to build their own generative AI services. For example, for c-suite executives, Amazon salespeople are told to focus on how generative AI can "improve efficiency by automating operations," the document said. For those with a bit more experience in AI, Amazon salespeople are advised to recommend new generative AI capabilities and AWS offerings to accelerate their development process.

The company’s latest salvo in the back-and-forth with DeSantis came Thursday, when it pulled the plug on its Lake Nona office complex. For Team Disney, the move is just the latest in which the company is relentlessly dunking on a relatively inexperienced politician who picked a fight with the wrong conglomerate. If you’re on Team DeSantis, shutting down Lake Nona reflects the desperation of a company whose stock is tanking and whose core businesses face serious headwinds. But Disney’s financial problems have much more to do with its money-guzzling streaming business and its rapidly dwindling profit from traditional cable TV. Disney’s stock is down more than 5% this year, while the S&P 500 is up 2%.
Twitter is hiding who paid for a blue check mark, now noting that the account is simply "verified." The old blue check mark message said the user had "subscribed to Twitter Blue." Elon Musk's social media app is now hiding who paid for its derided Twitter Blue service. Twitter also applied blue check marks to accounts of famous dead people, saying they were Twitter Blue subscribers even though they were very much deceased. As the blue check mark lost its luster, verified power users quickly tried to distance themselves from Musk's push for Blue subscriptions.

In total, Griner is an seven-time WNBA All-Star – only seven players in WNBA history have made more All-Star appearances. When it comes to the world’s best spicy dishes, we have some of the world’s hottest peppers to thank, along with incredible layers of flavor and a long, spice-loving human history. Peppers – a headliner for heat – are rated on the Scoville Heat Units scale, which measures capsaicin and other active components of chile peppers. And it’s the perky red pepper of the same name that brings the spiciness to this complex, layered and delicious dish. “The peperoncino (red chile pepper) is what makes this sauce ‘angry’ (arrabbiata) or spicy,” Chris MacLean of Italy-based Open Tuesday Wines said via email. FomaA/Adobe StockThe fiery Ethiopian spice blend called berbere – aromatic with chile peppers, basil, cardamom, garlic and ginger – is instrumental to the flavor chorus that’s doro wat, Ethiopia’s much-loved spicy chicken stew.
