There’s a stickiness to “Mean Girls” quotes. As a child, I watched the movie over and over on DVD, and the words wormed their way into my impressionable mind. “Every single sound bite.”Jayne is a co-director of a new version of “Mean Girls,” which came out on Friday. It’s an adaptation of an adaptation, refashioning songs from the 2018 Broadway musical based on the movie. Like its predecessor, the new “Mean Girls” follows Cady Heron (Angourie Rice), a teenager who has arrived at an American high school after being home-schooled by her zoologist parents in Kenya.

The average blockbuster now runs thirty minutes more than films did in the 1990s, a recent Economist survey found. Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated new film, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” is in theaters this weekend. In this case, though, fretting over the run-time might belie the thoughtfulness of Scorsese’s creation. The film, adapted from a best-selling nonfiction book by David Grann, is about the murders of members of the Osage Nation, a Native American tribe in Oklahoma, in the 1920s. Both the book and movie tell a story of violence, and of the ensuing investigation by an F.B.I.

Lily Allen didn’t know why she agreed to be interviewed for this article. On a recent morning, sitting outside a London cafe, the British singer said she had paused earlier for a moment of reflection. Since Allen burst onto the pop music scene in the mid-00s with lilting reggae-infused tracks like “Smile,” her relationship with the press has been fraught. She has always been outspoken — in her lyrics, in interviews and on social media — and for many years, she was a fixture in Britain’s tabloid newspapers. “Especially when you’re in your early 20s, and you’re still trying to figure out who you are in the world.”

SYDNEY, Aug 6 (Reuters) - South Africa coach Desiree Ellis said she thought Banyana Banyana could have beaten the Netherlands at the Women's World Cup on Sunday if they had taken their chances, rather than exiting in the first knockout stage with a 2-0 loss. Dutch goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar was named player of the match after keeping South Africa, and in particular striker Thembi Kgatlana, at bay with series of fine saves. "With a decision or a goal here or there, we could be speaking differently now, but I think the whole of South Africa should be really proud of this team." Ellis hoped that people would remember all the saves that goalkeeper South Africa Kaylin Swart made at the tournament, and not just the howler that gifted the Dutch their second goal after halftime on Sunday. "This team really punched above their weight considering that we do not have what everybody else has - a professional league."

Roord's header gave her side an early lead and Lineth Beerensteyn added the second goal courtesy of a goalkeeping error in the second half to secure the Dutch a date with Spain in Wellington on Friday. Dutch goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar was equal to everything Banyana Banyana fired at her, however, and the 2019 finalists progressed to the last eight for the second successive tournament. Ten minutes into the second half, winger Lieke Martens had a goal disallowed for offside, but the Dutch did double the lead in the 68th minute. Banyana Banyana had one last chance to get on the scoreboard in stoppage time, almost inevitably through Kgatlana, but there was no way past Van Domselaar. "Yesterday we spoke about needing to score more goals and we had the opportunities, especially in the first half," said South Africa coach Desiree Ellis.

She had been running, by that stage, for roughly 100 minutes, mounting what appeared at times to be a fearsome, one-woman campaign to keep South Africa in the Women’s World Cup for as long as possible. But Kgatlana, as she had already amply proved in this tournament, does not believe in stopping. First, she spun and writhed and twisted away from a defender, leaving her sprawled on the turf. The Netherlands, in the end, went through to the quarterfinals, where Spain lies in wait in Wellington, New Zealand. BRISBANE, Aug 6 (Reuters) - England's Sarina Wiegman is the lone female head coach remaining at the Women's World Cup after the elimination of South Africa on Sunday, which could bode well for the Lionesses Down Under if history has a hand in it. Twelve of the World Cup's 32 head coaches were women, including Desiree Ellis, whose Banyana Banyana were ousted in a 2-0 loss to the Netherlands in the round of 16. Since 2000, all but one of the major women's football tournaments – the Women's World Cup, Women's Euros and the Olympics – have been won by female-coached teams, according to the Female Coaching Network. Norio Sasaki, the man who coached Japan to World Cup gold in 2011, is the sole exception. Wiegman, whose European champions play Nigeria in the round of 16 on Monday, took over as Lionesses head coach in September 2021, and her squad went on a 30-game unbeaten streak that included just five draws.

"I think this group has shown that nothing can stand in their way, this group has shown when the chips are down that they can stand up. We know who we are playing, but they don't know who they are playing. The Dutch beat South Africa 5-1 in a friendly last year but Ellis said not much should be read into that result. "We are a team that know what our strengths and weaknesses are ... we know what we want to do. "We've got to bring our 'A' game and we've got to be at the absolute best, because the Dutch have shown during the tournament that they're a top side."

The Americans topped their group in 2015 and 2019 but this year they finished behind the Netherlands after two draws. They were also nearly eliminated in stoppage time of their final group game when debutants Portugal hit the post in a goalless draw. For Sweden, the Americans are familiar foes but this marks the first time the two heavyweight sides, ranked number one and three in the world, face each other in the knockouts. The Netherlands, 2019 runners-up, have an easier game on paper against South Africa, who reached the knockout stages for the first time.
