That western relocation was “wildly disruptive” and should serve as a “cautionary tale” for the incoming Trump administration, said Tracy Stone-Manning, the Biden administration’s BLM director. Project 2025, a conservative blueprint written by dozens of former Trump administration officials, recommended returning the BLM headquarters to the West. Most BLM staffers already worked in states outside of DC, but a disproportionate level of senior staffers worked in the nation’s capital. But an inspector general report later found that Trump administration officials had misled Congress in statements about the relocation. Future efforts to move federal offices out of DC could lead more federal workers to unionize.

“This exceeds the amount the State Health Plan spends on cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and chemotherapy medications,” the State Health Plan said in a March statement. The health plan’s board of trustees eliminated coverage of this class of medications for weight loss starting in April. “They know diets don’t work long-term for weight loss, yet they are denying coverage for a medication that has been effective,” Blanchard said. But patients typically need to stay on the medications to maintain their weight loss, meaning they face long-term costs. Besides making the medication more affordable, he said, it should encourage the use of weight loss drugs and treatment of obesity as a chronic disease instead of stigmatizing it as a moral failing.

A judge on Wednesday dismissed a defamation lawsuit that Trump supporter Ray Epps brought against Fox News, bringing the yearlong legal battle to a close. Epps, a Jan. 6 defendant, argued in a July 2023 lawsuit that Fox News told a "fantastical story" that Epps acted as an undercover FBI agent who was responsible for violence during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Carlson and Fox News parted ways in April 2023, and The Tucker Carlson Network did not immediately respond to a request for comment either. In an August 2023 filing, lawyers for Fox News argued that Epps' lawsuit "is a direct attack on the First Amendment." As of Aug. 6, more than 1,488 defendants have been charged in connection to Jan. 6, according to the Department of Justice.

It’s misinformation about autism and mass injury that doctors and public health officials have disproven over and over again. Less attention has focused on the CDC, a public health agency Kennedy has long vilified in speeches and writings. In his 2017 speech, Kennedy criticized ACIP as a group of self-interested actors who base decisions on financial gain instead of public health. “The people who are on ACIP are not public health advocates,” he said. “We would know the answer to that question if we were given access to the vaccine safety database, but they’ve hidden it,” Kennedy said.

CNN —The US Department of Justice threw even more doubt into a new way of paying for real estate brokers this week, raising concerns about a recent wide-ranging legal settlement. The new rules included in the settlement represented the biggest upheaval to the US real estate market in a century, sowing worry among real estate professionals. The NAR settlement was originally announced in March, and the new rules took effect in mid-August. “This is an important moment for NAR members, home buyers and sellers, and the real estate industry,” said NAR President Kevin Sears in a statement about the settlement approval. Rob Crawford, the owner of Florida real estate firm Loch Realty, said he has heard of real estate brokerages weighing whether to leave the organization.

CNN —When photographer Elizabeth Kahane’s husband asked where in New York they should live following their engagement in 1998, she had a very specific requirement for their marital home: A view of the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The photographer has captured the spectacle almost every year since, missing the parade just twice in over a quarter of a century. Federal ethics laws require those senior government jobs in the Cabinet and beyond to divest their individual stock holdings, lest anyone be tempted to abuse their position of power to juice their personal investments. “The rule of thumb is, recuse or divest,” said Jordan Libowitz, vice president for communications at Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW. “The more complex your assets are, the harder it can be to divest from them. Although the president isn’t subject to conflict of interest laws, most presidents have adhered to them anyway to avoid any appearance of impropriety.
