On June 28, 2020, a group of women using the name Black Females Anonymous published a damning public letter that shook Essence magazine, the leading publication for Black women in America, to the core. Essence magazine was launched in 1970 at a time when Black business and civil-rights leaders called for greater self-determination and empowerment. The magazine was the brainchild of a group of four Black businessmen who identified a lack of publications for Black women in America. "And that is to serve Black women deeply, to serve women of color in a way that no one else has thought about." Essence CEO Michelle Ebanks, Dennis, and Essence chief content and creative officer, Moana Luu, at the 2020 13th Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon.

The UK government said last August it would advance a bill in the current parliamentary session, which is expected to end this autumn, providing detailed regulations by 2025. That has not yet happened, with political turmoil forcing the government to water down ambitions for this session. Transport Minister Mark Harper in December said there would no longer be a Transport Bill this session, and did not mention a separate AV bill in an outline of the ministry's legislative agenda. Last month Junior Minister Jesse Norman said he shared AV startups' concerns. They fear a self-driving bill will be crowded out by other vote-winning priorities in the run-up to the election.

The roster of special guests has included Bruce Springsteen, Tony Bennett, Olivia Rodrigo and Joel’s daughter Alexa Ray Joel. The residency has continued on a roughly monthly schedule since its inception, aside from an 18-month break during the Covid-19 pandemic, returning in November 2021. According to the trade publication Pollstar, Joel’s residency has played to nearly 1.7 million people through its 89th performance in April, and sold $207 million in tickets. The idea for the residency came about following Celine Dion’s two record-breaking runs in Las Vegas, which started in 2003 and ultimately sold about $660 million in tickets. Last year, for example, Harry Styles played 15 dates at the Garden and, in late 2022 and 2023, another 15 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

Stores like Bed Bath & Beyond are an "unremarkable middle," Dennis said on the Remarkable Retail podcast. Fewer middle-income consumers mean a shrinking shopper base for retailers that historically catered to the middle class, Retail Dive reported in 2019. "The apocalyptic part is really about the collapse of the unremarkable middle," Dennis said on the podcast. That's putting new pressure on the "unremarkable middle," Dennis said. "Economic pressure is going to reveal more fragility on the part of many retailers," Dennis added.
The scammer networks operate fake trading platforms that look "exactly the way they should look," Friedman told CNBC. "When I was looking at who had messaged, I was like, 'I don't know if this person is real,'" Kaimi told CNBC. When pressed, Kaimi told Mike about his financial difficulties, stemming from past credit-card debt. "I thought I was someone who knew when they were being scammed, was able to discern things," Kaimi told CNBC. But when Kaimi told Mike he was planning to withdraw his funds, the penny dropped.
Larry Elder, a conservative talk radio host who was a breakout star on the right after running unsuccessfully in California’s recall election in 2021, said on Thursday evening that he was running for president. He made the announcement on Tucker Carlson’s show on Fox News, joining a growing Republican field that is led by former President Donald J. Trump and Gov. “My father was a World War II vet,” Mr. Elder told Mr. Carlson. He was a Marine.” He added: “My older brother, late older brother, Kirk, was in the Navy during the Vietnam era. Gavin Newsom in the attempted recall, and would have succeeded him had voters not overwhelmingly chosen to keep Mr. Newsom in office.

"People are scared to death of the IRS," said Karla Dennis, an enrolled agent and founder of Karla Dennis and Associates. 4 red flags for an IRS auditThe statute of limitations for an IRS audit is typically three years, with the clock starting once you file, explained John Apisa, a CPA and partner at PKF O'Connor Davies LLP. Refundable credits The IRS also reviews refundable tax credits more carefully since filers can still receive the tax credit with zero balance due. While audits have declined overall, the drop is lower for filers claiming the earned income tax credit, a tax break for low to moderate earners, which has contributed to higher audit rates among Black Americans. Round numbers Deductions with rounded expenses may raise eyebrows, said Preeti Shah, a certified financial planner and CPA at Enlight Financial in Hamilton, New Jersey.

MEXICO CITY, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Britain's Jake Dennis won the first race of electric Formula E's Gen3 era on Saturday with a dominant drive for the Porsche-powered Avalanche Andretti team in Mexico City. The race had three safety car periods and Dennis also set the fastest lap. "To win by that margin, start on the front row and get Porsche a one-two is absolutely incredible," said the Briton. "It was such a physical race, these cars are so hard to drive physically and with the lower grip as well it just makes everything so challenging. Abt's Dutch driver Robon Frijns suffered a broken left wrist after a first lap impact and will have surgery in Mexico, his team said.
From now on, the criminal convictions will place an indelible asterisk next to the Trump business name. With serious criminal investigations underway against Trump in Washington, Atlanta and New York, the convictions remind us of the sharpest arrow in a prosecutor’s quiver: flipping the target’s lieutenants. Loyal to the end, Weisselberg never fingered Trump personally at trial and even cooperated with defense lawyers by forswearing Trump’s involvement in the fraud. Before joining the top tier at DOJ, Colangelo led New York Attorney General Letitia James’ inquiry into Trump. By thrusting himself into the national spotlight, there is no way that his misconduct wouldn’t catch stellar prosecutors’ careful attention.
CNN —When his team trails in the fourth quarter, Tom Brady is almost inevitable. Down 13 points against the New Orleans Saints in the closing minutes, Brady steered the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to an improbable 17-16 win on Monday Night Football. The win was extraordinary even by Brady’s standards, marking the largest regular-season fourth-quarter comeback in his career, according to ESPN. That brought Tampa Bay within six points before Brady orchestrated an 11-play, game-winning drive and found Rachaad White for the touchdown with three seconds remaining. New Orleans have a bye this weekend and next face the Atlanta Falcons on December 18, while Tampa Bay play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Agnew was a founding partner of Pinsent Masons' Dublin office. A Squire Patton Boggs spokesperson said the firm is currently looking at space in Dublin's central business district. Agnew said in an email that the exact timing of his departure from Pinsent Masons "has still to be agreed." As in Danchenko’s trial, Durham failed to convict Sussmann of making false statements to the FBI. And therein lies the reason underlying Durham’s losing trial record. On Monday, during Durham’s closing argument against Danchenko, the special prosecutor made a point of rebuking the FBI’s 2016 investigation. The Hartford Courant reported her concern about “pressure from Barr ... to produce results before the election.”Durham, however, stuck with Barr. And Barr’s energetic attempts after Jan. 6 to rehabilitate his image cannot erase his sad final legacy as a Trump enabler.
I'm not a trained chef, but my restaurant business is now valued at $100 million with eight locations, four food trucks, and a sister company. When Slutty Vegan first came to me I thought, 'Oh, 'slutty' and 'vegan' don't go together, but I can make them go together and make something really cool.' I'm introducing people to vegan food in a way that's fun and familiar. I just wanted to get people's attention and start a conversation about vegan food. I really got luckyI chose New York for my first Slutty Vegan location outside of the South because it represents the US as a whole.
State law was later changed to require unanimous Board of Pardons approval to recommend commutations for those serving life sentences. In his second term, Wolf has already commuted 47 life sentences, at the urging of the pardons board. “In making clemency decisions, John scrupulously reviewed clemency applications and consulted with corrections officials, prison wardens, judges and DAs. Fetterman has not, as one Oz ad implies, called for eliminating all life sentences for murderers. All but one of the men featured had been serving life sentences on second-degree murder convictions, with a variety of mitigating circumstances in their favor.
