Most people expected fireworks when it was announced that former President Donald Trump would appear at this year's National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago. And the conversation has heightened pressure on the NABJ from its members over the Trump visit. NABJ President Ken Lemon in a statement Tuesday said that the organization had been in talks with Harris' team for an in-person panel before she became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. But April Ryan, the White House correspondent for The Grio, reported that NABJ leadership informed Harris' team that it was preferable that she be in-person for her appearance. NABJ member Kathia Woods took to X to express her opposition to the organization's decision to invite Trump to speak in Chicago.

CNN —Kamala Harris’ plan as a running mate was to brush past JD Vance as nothing but a rubber stamp for Donald Trump. Vance’s elevation — despite his relative lack of government experience — is giving Harris a new opportunity to go after Trump. Several people hoping to get picked as Harris’ ticket mate echoed that message as they angle for the job. Harris, 59, has the unique experience of leading a selection process only four years after going through it herself. “We’re in a position where somebody has done the job of vice president,” a Harris adviser told CNN.

Critics say DEI programs are discriminatory and attempt to solve racial discrimination by disadvantaging other groups, particularly White Americans. These diversity training efforts emerged around the time that affirmative action began by executive order from President John F. Kennedy. Despite the backlash against DEI programs and initiatives, many companies are standing firm in their support for DEI. And 71% of people surveyed said they think DEI training is important to “creating a positive workplace culture.”What does DEI look like at work? NEW YORK AP —John Deere says it will no longer sponsor “social or cultural awareness” events, becoming the latest major US company to distance itself from diversity and inclusion measures after being targeted by conservative backlash. The move from the company known on Wall Street as Deere & Co. arrives just weeks after rural retailer Tractor Supply ended an array of its corporate diversity and climate efforts. Both announcements came after backlash piled up online from conservative activists opposed to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, sponsorship of LGBTQ+ Pride events and climate advocacy. “If it’s so polarizing that people just abandon it, then we all lost.”Legal attacks against companies’ diversity, equity and inclusion efforts have also drawn more attention following the Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling to end affirmative action in college admissions. That doesn’t mean companies will stop their DEI efforts entirely, she added, but they may have to change language or find new workarounds.

Associations that represent women in law enforcement reacted to the unfounded attacks on female agents with disappointment and alarm.
