Tracking Hurricane Debby Leer en españolDebby was a Category 1 hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico late Sunday Eastern time, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. The hurricane had sustained wind speeds of 75 miles per hour. Debby is the fourth named storm to form in the Atlantic in 2024. In late May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted that there would be 17 to 25 named storms this year, an above-normal amount. Without El Niño this year, clouds are more likely to tower to the tall heights needed to sustain a powerful cyclone.

Debby Herbenick is one of the foremost researchers on American sexual behavior. The director of the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University and the author of the pointedly titled book “Yes, Your Kid,” she usually shares her data, no matter how explicit, without judgment. So I was surprised by how concerned she seemed when we checked in on Zoom recently: “I haven’t often felt so strongly about getting research out there,” she told me. As someone whose been writing for well over a decade about young people’s attitudes and early experience with sex in all its forms, I’d also begun clocking this phenomenon. Getting into the right mindset for Valentine’s Day

No matter your view on the topic, Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to put sex on the calendar, but don’t just focus on the act itself at the end of the evening. I’m not telling you to rearrange your entire day for sex, but to make small intentional choices that are pro-sex. That’s why my Valentine’s Day advice for you is not to just have sex. It’s Valentine’s Day, so come up with a sexy prize for each win and a naughty consequence for each loss. Don’t forget your kidsMany teens also feel pressure around Valentine’s Day — to be in a couple, find a date or have sex (whether or not they’re feeling ready).

Grand Junction attorney Jeff Hurd, a former board chair of the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce, jumped into the GOP primary on Wednesday. "I've decided to enter the race to give Republican primary voters an option and a choice," Hurd told the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel. In the Democratic primary, Frisch — a former Aspen city councilman — is joined by Grand Junction Mayor Anna Stout and candidates Debby Burnett, David Karpas, and Adam Withrow.

Civil rights and voting rights groups have sued Tennessee over the state's congressional map. The GOP-drawn map led to the elimination of a heavily blue district in one of the state's Democratic centers. Bill Lee and several top election officials over the state's congressional and state Senate maps, arguing that the boundaries are unconstitutional and violate the rights of minority voters. Tennessee district maps must preserve the ability for voters to express their shared interests and elect the political representation of their choice." Mindy Kaling's 'Velma' series set to premiere in January

HBO Max has set a Jan. 12, 2023, release date for Mindy Kaling’s animated series “Velma,” a spinoff of the beloved, but family-friendly, “Scooby-Doo” series. In this modern, adult-oriented take on the classic “Scooby-Doo” franchise, the series follows the origin story of Velma Dinkley (Kaling), the brainiac of the Mystery Inc. gang. After a corpse is found in her high school, Velma teams up with Daphne (Constance Wu), Shaggy (Sam Richardson) and Fred (Glenn Howerton) to solve the murder. Kaling’s series also reimagines several members of the Mystery Inc. gang, including making Velma of South Asian descent. “We want to honor other interpretations and what we think feels really modern,” Kaling explained at NYCC.
Mayan Lopez’s co-star in her new NBC sitcom “ Lopez vs Lopez ” happens to be her real-life dad, George Lopez. As is the Lopez way, art imitates life: George’s previous TV roles in “The George Lopez Show” and “Lopez” were also based on his real life. After divorcing her mother, Ann, in 2012, Mayan Lopez says she felt resentment toward her dad and the two didn’t have much contact until they reconnected during the pandemic. I get to kind of have that (perspective) now.”The genesis of “Lopez vs Lopez” came about when TV producer Debby Wolfe stumbled upon Mayan’s TikTok account. “She was there for ‘The George Lopez Show’ that was based on (dad’s) life.
The tune had been written by ad man Joseph Brooks for the soundtrack of Brooks’s self-produced, self-directed film of the same name. Brooks made an inspired choice in Boone. She was young (21), pretty in a generic West Coast sort of way, operatic and the inheritor of a great schlock tradition. Her father Pat Boone’s cover versions of R&B hits by Fats Domino and Little Richard are what people really mean when they denounce cultural appropriation. Pat Boone singing Little Richard is a crime.
If your boss rejects your request for a promotion because you lack experience with a certain program, try addressing that weakness before asking again. When you're ready, Soo advises telling your boss: "This is how I improved and what I've accomplished since the last time. If you think you're clearly qualified for the role, try forming a stronger argument for why you deserve it. Clearly outline why you're qualified — or at least close to being that — and why it would be a smart decision for your boss to choose you. The task gets harder if you're asking your boss to create a completely new role for you.
“I think listening is maybe the most difficult thing to do when someone has a legitimate issue with somebody.”“Lopez vs. Lopez,” which premieres Friday on NBC, fictionalizes the real-life relationship between Lopez and his daughter, Mayan. Lopez said that he spent some time estranged from his daughter, but that they started reconciling at the beginning of the Covid pandemic. He credited writer and producer Debby Wolfe with the idea for creating “Lopez vs. Lopez” after seeing Mayan’s TikToks about their father-daughter relationship. While younger generations of Americans today may share more things in common with their parents than previous generations, Lopez said, Latinos still face big gaps when it comes to being recognized culturally as equals. Reflecting on the legacy Latinos and others can leave, Lopez said unity is crucial.
At some point, you might find yourself agonizing over an important career decision. And Soo says she never would have even made it to Kayak if not for an early career job she initially thought she'd regret. Her takeaway: Whether you enjoy or hate your job, you'll undeniably learn from it. Be open-mindedEven if you dislike your position right off the bat, remember that there's always something to learn from the experience, Soo says. "That hasn't been my experience, and I'm sure that won't be what other people experience ... You really don't have to stress out too much."
