Elon Musk’s secret game plan for Tesla
  + stars: | 2023-07-06 | by ( Adam Rogers | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +9 min
"Tesla is happy to support other EVs via our Supercharger network," Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted, replying to President Joe Biden's announcement. And by tapping into a vehicle's battery management system, Tesla may be able to get even more data from its competitors. There were jokes for years that Tesla was actually a carbon-credit company pretending to be a car company. For a while it looked as if it were going to be an insurance company pretending to be a car company. Now, I think it's going to be a data company — which may just be the thing that winds up keeping it afloat.

The owners and operators of four nursing homes siphoned off more than $83 million in taxpayer funds and neglected residents, leading to injuries and at least one death, according to the New York State attorney general, Letitia James, who filed a lawsuit against the owners on Wednesday. “They put profit over people again and again and again while vulnerable New Yorkers were reduced to skeletons,” Ms. James said at a news conference on Wednesday, noting in an earlier statement that the co-owners of the nursing homes, Kenneth Rozenberg and Daryl Hagler, had turned the facilities into “moneymaking machines,” “leading to elderly residents and those with disabilities suffering unconscionable pain, neglect, degradation and even death.”The four nursing homes named in the lawsuit, filed after an investigation by the Office of the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, are run by Centers Health Care, and include two in New York City, Holliswood Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Queens and Beth Abraham Center for Rehabilitation in the Bronx; as well as Martine Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in White Plains and Buffalo Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Buffalo.

Companies Hyundai Motor Co FollowWASHINGTON, June 19 (Reuters) - U.S. auto safety regulators are investigating nearly 40,000 Hyundai (005380.KS) Ioniq 5 electric vehicles over reports of power loss that may be tied to a battery charging issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's preliminary investigation covers 2022 model year vehicles after it received 30 consumer complaints alleging a loss of acceleration. The agency said many consumers reported a loud popping noise followed by a warning displayed in their dashboard and immediately experienced a loss of power that ranged from a reduction in acceleration to a complete loss. NHTSA said it learned from Hyundai that the failure is related to the Integrated Charging Control Unit responsible for powering both vehicle batteries. Hyundai did not immediately comment.

WASHINGTON, May 12 (Reuters) - The U.S. Energy Department on Friday said it intends to loan California startup CelLink $362 million to help finance construction of a U.S. manufacturing facility to improve key vehicle wiring components. The conditional commitment from the government's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing loan program is for the development of lighter, more efficient flexible circuit wiring harnesses for automotive and other industries. Once fully operational, the Georgetown, Texas facility is expected to produce flex harnesses to support some 2.7 million electric vehicles per year, the department said. CelLink, which already has products installed in more than a million vehicles on the road, currently operates a manufacturing facility in San Carlos. The new Texas facility will eventually hold up to 25 manufacturing lines that will be brought online in stages over the next several years depending on demand.
Emergency start devices sold online starting at $1,600 can hack into a car through its wire network. The easiest access to car wires is through the headlights, car security experts say. "Normally, the wake-up message happens when you've pressed your car key. The hacking device sends a message to the car's front network — a car has many networks for logistic reasons — pretending to be the key. To study the hacking system, Tindell and Tabor purchased a similar hacking device online and reverse-engineered it.
The possible investments are part of a wider, long-term strategy to reduce exposure to China, two people familiar with the plan told Reuters. ASML's lithography systems can cost up to 160 million euros ($170 million) each and are used to create the circuitry of computer chips. The Dutch government on Wednesday announced new restrictionson exports impacting ASML's second-best range of chip-printing tools, which could lead to Chinese retaliation. Among the companies on the mission is Neways, which helps ASML develop electrical control units, power controls and wiring systems for lithography systems, according to the company's website. ASML supplier NTS Group, which is a provider of precision mechanics tools, is another company that will join the business trip, Brainport said.

For more than 100 years, automobiles have been powered by internal combustion engines. Yet around the globe, consumers are slowly shifting to electric-powered vehicles and countries are putting bans of ICE-based engines into place. This disruption in the mobility space also includes automation, like driverless cars and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) applications. Cowen said the company is "well positioned in the growing electrical architecture space as well as with electronic and safety applications." "Deep experience designing purpose-built SoCs [system-on-chip applications] and a decade+ of real world driving data support its positioning," the report said.

By the first week of November, New Delhi’s air quality index was 472, high enough to affect healthy people while having a serious impact on those with existing conditions. In some areas of the city, the reading exceeded 800, according to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, a regulatory body. Experts say exposure to low air quality levels increases the risk of respiratory infections, heart disease and lung cancer. In response to the poor air quality, Delhi officials ordered the closure of primary schools and reduced outdoor activities for older students from Nov. 4 to 9. Kia is telling owners of nearly 72,000 older Sportage small SUVs in the U.S. to park them outdoors and away from structures after getting reports of more engine fires. Documents posted Wednesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say fires can start while the engines are running or when they’re turned off. National Motor Museum / Heritage Images/Getty Images fileThe SUVs were recalled in 2016 due to corrosion in a wiring harness near the engine control unit. The Korean automaker says it has reports of eight fires and 15 cases of melting or damage since April 2017. The company says owners should park outside and away from structures and other vehicles until it figures out the cause of the fires and develops a remedy.
Oct 26 (Reuters) - Kia will recall 71,000 2008-2009 model year Sportage vehicles in the United States previously recalled in 2016 for fire risks and is advising owners to park outside until repairs are completed. Kia has identified eight vehicle fires and 15 localized melting/damage incidents since 2017 in the Sportage sport utility vehicles that had previously had the 2016 recall repairs completed. Owners should park outside and away from structures or other vehicles until the recall is completed, according to a Kia filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Kia said the cause of the "post-recall fire incidents is unknown and still under investigation." Kia expects to notify owners by mail of the recall in late December.
The company maintained its 2022 revenue guidance of $65.25 billion despite lingering supply chain related headwinds. That, coupled with a fresh $14 billion multi-year share repurchase authorization plan adopted on Monday, means Malave expects earnings per share to increase in 2023. The Bethesda, Maryland-based company posted $6.71 in earnings per diluted share for the quarter, versus analysts' estimates of $6.67, according to Refinitiv data. Compared to the same quarter a year ago sales at aeronautics, which makes the F-35, rose 7.6% to $7.1 billion. And despite recent turbulence between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia over a cut to oil production, Malave said Lockheed had not been asked to alter deliveries to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration findings come nearly three years after the agency's inspectors began documenting quality-control issues at the same Lilly plant in Branchburg, New Jersey. FDA inspectors returned to the plant this past July, spending 12 days there. Lilly did not directly respond to questions about the FDA inspectors' findings. The FDA report did not say whether the medicines in question were ultimately shipped to customers or discarded. In November 2019, FDA inspectors found that quality-control data had been deleted and not appropriately audited at the New Jersey plant.

REUTERS/Rebecca Cook/File PhotoDETROIT, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Automotive industry suppliers are raising prices to their customers across the board, not just with Ford Motor Co(F.N), which warned this week it was taking a $1 billion inflationary cost hit. Several suppliers said Ford isn't suffering alone, as automakers across the board are being asked to shoulder more of the burden suppliers have faced from spiking energy, labor and raw material costs. Suppliers contacted by Reuters said they have raised prices on parts in the range of 7% to 20%. Many suppliers can't move fast enough, offering trailing contracts that leave them squeezing costs and accepting lower profit margins when prices spike.
"The long-term opportunity for this company ... is tremendous because if you think about the end markets that we participate in — forget about share gain, forget about new product cycle.
