The parents of a Massachusetts high school senior are suing his teacher, school district faculty members and a local school committee for punishments he received after he used artificial intelligence tools to research and create an outline for a history class essay. The lawsuit is one of the first of its kind in contesting school discipline over the use of AI to complete academic work. The complaint said the school’s AI policy was added to the Hingham High School student handbook only the year after the plaintiff’s son was punished. “It’s underregulated, especially in a school setting,” Peter Farrell, the family’s lawyer, said about AI in a phone interview. “AI is an output from a machine.”The student’s school district, Hingham Public Schools, said it was unable to provide further details during ongoing litigation and to respect the student’s privacy.

A dozen states, including Texas, have new laws limiting or banning DEI policies at their public universities. The plea deal states that the Justice Department would select the person with “input” from Boeing. A Justice Department lawyer said the provision doesn’t mean that a less-qualified person would be picked, only that the government will consider all candidates. In the most recent NBC News poll, 54% of respondents say they disapprove of the job Biden is doing. In fact, Biden is now more personally unpopular than either Harris or Trump. Between now and Election Day, I do expect Harris to find more ways to differentiate herself from Biden. CNN —Researchers have discovered a distant disc galaxy that has surprisingly similar characteristics to our own Milky Way, and it could change our understanding of how galaxies form. Early galaxies tend to join together and develop smoother shapes incredibly slowly, with our Milky Way taking billions of years to develop tidy structures, the researchers said. The rotation and structure of the galaxy were observed using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) telescope in northern Chile. “Finding further evidence of more evolved structures would be an exciting discovery, as it would be the most distant galaxy with such structures observed to date,” Rowland said. “ALMA also reveals details finer than earlier telescopes.”Blain said more research is needed before scientists change their understanding of galaxy formation.

CNN —Special counsel Jack Smith told a federal judge on Wednesday that the Supreme Court’s decision limiting some obstruction charges against those who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, should not apply to Donald Trump in the election subversion case against the former president. One primary reason the obstruction charge against Trump should stand, prosecutors argue, is that – unlike in the case involving a rioter that was before the Supreme Court – Trump is directly accused of creating false evidence though the plot to insert fake electors in the certification process. Trump is arguing the ruling should result in Judge Tanya Chutkan throwing out the case against him. “The defendant’s supplement ignores entirely that the superseding indictment includes allegations that involve the creation of false evidence,” prosecutors wrote Wednesday, namely, “the fraudulent electoral certificates.”Smith also urged the judge to ignore Trump’s claims of presidential immunity, calling them “deeply flawed” and “irrelevant” to the issue at hand and should wait to be argued in separate filings. Trump has been charged with multiple counts related to his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, including conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction.

Unrivaled, the new and upcoming pro women's basketball league, signed an exclusive, multiyear media rights deal to air its games on TNT and truTV, as well as streaming platform Max. The heightened interest in the WNBA led to the league's most recent media rights deal being valued at $2.2 billion for 11 seasons, CNBC previously reported. The WNBA's media rights deal is negotiated as part of the NBA's agreement. The media rights deal with Unrivaled gives Turner Sports the opportunity to keep basketball on its air if it is not successful in its lawsuit. Star broadcaster and NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley recently said he wouldn't leave TNT Sports even if the company doesn't have NBA media rights in the future.

All had locally advanced cervical cancer, although none had tumors that had spread to other organs. This discovery led to the development of an HPV vaccine that can help prevent cervical cancer in women. Brawley stressed the importance of routine cervical screening as advanced-stage cervical cancer rises among White and Black women in the US. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cervical cancer screenings typically test for signs of HPV that can cause cell changes on the cervix. “Of the 4,400 deaths from cervical cancer, none of them get screened every year.”Chemotherapy to treat cervical cancer can come with unpleasant side effects like nausea, vomiting and hair loss, Brawley noted.

My husband and I loved living in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo near Washington, DC. But the convenience of condo life came with some challenges, especially once we retired and became grandparents. It also became an art studio once my husband retired and leaned into his oil-painting hobby. A doctor shortage is projected to hit 86,000 by 2036. According to the Rural Medical Training Collaborative, 133 rural residencies in family medicine and 69 rural-track programs are recruiting for 2025 enrollment, along with 30 internal-medicine residencies and 16 psychiatry residencies. Several pieces of legislation have also been introduced to Congress to address the doctor shortage. For example, HR 7855, the Association of American Medical Colleges-endorsed Rural Residency Planning and Development Act of 2024, would codify the Rural Residency Planning and Development Program, which funds the startup costs of residency training in rural areas, Dill said. From 2019 to 2024, the program has enabled the launch of 46 accredited rural residency programs across 38 states and Puerto Rico.
