Apple 's Vision Pro quickly sold out after preorders for it opened Friday, but early signs could mean demand is waning, according to top Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities. He estimated that Apple sold 160,000 to 180,000 Vision Pro units over the weekend. "Popular iPhone models also sell out immediately upon pre-order, and shipping times typically increase to several weeks within hours," Kuo wrote. Kuo wrote in his blog that it "should not be challenging" for Apple to ship 500,000 Vision Pro units in total this year. "Right now, Vision Pro is still a very niche product," Kuo wrote.

Apple's Vision Pro became available to preorder on Friday at 8 a.m. AdvertisementPreorders launched for Apple's new Vision Pro early Friday morning, and it looks like customers were eager to snap up the first available units. The Vision Pro, with its sky-high price tag, was always expected to be a smaller launch than something like the newest iPhone. Earlier this month, analyst and Apple supply chain expert Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the company would produce only 60,000 to 80,000 Vision Pro units for the initial launch. "Since the shipment is not large, I believe that Vision Pro will sell out soon after the release," Kuo wrote on X.

Tim Cook, chief executive officer of Apple Inc., during an event at Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California, US, on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023. Top Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Wednesday that shipments for the company's MacBook computers will decline around 30% year over year, to 17 million units, during 2023. He said demand for the new 15-inch MacBook Air has slipped "significantly" in the wake of the back-to-school shopping period, and that MacBook shipments during Apple's fourth quarter will be lower than they have been in years past. Apple's fourth quarter has historically been important for the company as consumers purchase devices as part of their holiday shopping. He said shipments of the 15-inch MacBook Air are projected to be down more than 20% this year.

Some analysts feel the Huawei moves could be a first step in comeback efforts by China's "national champion" to rival Apple. By contrast with the hit for Apple suppliers, Huawei's extended recent gains. Reuters GraphicsSCOPE OF CURBS UNCLEARIt was not immediately clear how wide China's iPhone curbs are, but one employee at an affected state-owned enterprise (SOEs) in the capital said they extended to visitors. The U.S. Commerce Department is seeking more information on the "character and composition" of the new Huawei chip that may violate trade curbs, it said on Thursday.

Here's what to expect from this year's edition:iPhone 15: USB-C and titaniumApple's invite to its Sept. 12 event. This year, the biggest change is expected to be a USB-C charging port, replacing Apple's proprietary Lightning port, which was introduced in 2012 as the iPhone charger "for the next decade." A USB-C charging port on iPhones will match the same charging port on Android phones, newer laptops, iPads, wireless headphones, and other gadgets. The change is being spurred by new European regulations which require a common charging port.

Apple is considering raising the price of its high-end iPhone Pros when new models come out this fall, according to Bloomberg. Since 2019, Apple has sold a high-end iPhone Pro that starts in the U.S. at $999 and a Max model with a bigger screen for at least $1099. Now, Apple's newest high-end models could reportedly receive a price increase that would boost Apple's overall revenue by increasing the average selling price of a new iPhone. The new iPhone models could have a USB-C charger, instead of a proprietary Lightning charger, after new European regulations passed last year. The new Pro models could come with a titanium case and thinner bezels, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

On Monday, Apple is expected to announce its first new major product line since the Apple Watch in 2014. During Apple's software-focused developer conference, WWDC, it could release its first mixed-reality headset, according to analyst research, media reports and increasingly, vague references from Apple itself. The headset, according to reports, will feature high-definition screens in front of the user's eyes. But since then, sales for existing VR headsets haven't been great, usage has been worse and the anticipated explosion in successful VR software companies hasn't happened. Apple's headset is expected to be more powerful than what's out there — even current $6,500 VR headsets.

Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned Apple analyst, said in a blog post Tuesday that he predicts that a bigger screen and a periscope camera will be features of the iPhone 16 Pro. Kuo said that the iPhone 16 Pro's display will be "slightly larger" than the screens on the current iPhone 14 Pro and the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro. A periscope camera offers improved zoom capabilities, and Kuo said he expects the iPhone 16 Pro and the even larger iPhone 16 Pro Max to have them. Kuo's comments echo another industry analyst, Ross Young, who said that the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will get bigger screens. When another user guessed that the iPhone 16 Pro would increase from 6.1 to 6.4 inches, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max would increase from 6.7 to 6.9 inches, Young replied "close."
Apple' s virtual reality headset will run with hundreds of thousands of iPad apps and take an all-encompassing approach to features, according to Bloomberg. The headset will run most of Apple's flagship iPad apps, including Books, Camera, FaceTime, Maps and Messages. There are also hundreds of thousands of third-party iPad apps that will reportedly be compatible with the headset at launch. Apple's headset will reportedly cost a minimum of $3,000, three times as expensive as Meta 's high-end Quest Pro.
April 12 (Reuters) - Shares of Apple Inc (AAPL.O) supplier Cirrus Logic Inc (CRUS.O) tumbled about 12% after a renowned analyst said the iPhone maker will abandon the solid-state button design for premium variants of its iPhone 15 series of smartphones. Amid speculation Apple would use a button format that remains static, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for his accurate predictions related to Apple's product launches, said in a blog post the company decided to abandon the design shift. "Investors had anticipated that the new solid-state button design would increase suppliers' revenues and profits," Kuo said. Shares of integrated circuit maker Cirrus Logic have hit their lowest in over two months and are set for their worst day in about two years. Cirrus Logic declined to comment.

Photographer: Jeenah Moon/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesApple supplier Cirrus Logic's shares fell about 12% early afternoon Wednesday after a report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro won't use Cirrus' haptic touch technology as heavily as initially expected. Cirrus' technology and parts help power Apple's haptic touch systems, which have been used to replace physical buttons, like the home button on some iPhones, with touch-sensitive buttons that mimic the way a button push feels. Cirrus' relationship with its "largest customer," widely acknowledged as Apple, provided around 88% of its revenue for the most recent quarter. Kuo had previously said that Apple would expand its use of Cirrus' technology beyond haptic touch and replace the physical volume buttons with solid-state technology.
Apple CEO Tim Cook poses for a portrait next to a line of new MacBook Airs as he enters the Steve Jobs Theater during the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California on June 6, 2022 . Apple CEO Tim Cook recently explained in an interview with GQ why people might want the sort of mixed reality headset his company is expected to announce in the coming months. In short: art, communication, "creative" applications, and corporate environments, Cook told GQ. "The idea that you could overlay the physical world with things from the digital world could greatly enhance people's communication, people's connection," Cook told GQ. Meta has struggled to find success with its virtual reality business, called Reality Labs.
Apple's widely anticipated mixed-reality headset may not be ready in time for the company's June WWDC event, top Apple analyst, TFI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo, wrote on Twitter Thursday. The Apple Watch was announced in Sept. 2014 but didn't launch until April 2015. Apple expects to sell at most 300,000 headsets in 2023, Kuo wrote. The best hope for Apple is that headset growth matches the trajectory of the Apple Watch, evolving from a "small portion" of the company's business into a "centerpiece," Gurman wrote. Kuo is regarded as one of the most accurate Apple analysts, and has reported on Apple's shifting approach to the launch of its long-awaited headsets.
Apple is reportedly planning to reveal its mixed reality goggles in June — its next major product. The iPhone company is reportedly planning to reveal the futuristic goggles, the company's first major new product since the Apple Watch, in three months at a June event. Executives at Apple have also reportedly questioned the headset's prospects to make a big splash at its initial release, per Bloomberg. The company has reportedly been working on the headset for seven years, and has missed deadlines in 2019 and 2022 for its planned release. Apple is reportedly working on a version that costs $1,500 — half of what the initial headset costs — that will come out within two years of the first launch.
