Eat Just, Inc/Handout via REUTERSWASHINGTON, March 21 (Reuters) - California-based cultivated meat company GOOD Meat has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to bring its lab-grown chicken to market, according to agency documents released on Tuesday. GOOD Meat's chicken is the second cultivated meat product to receive a "no-questions" letter from the FDA after California-based UPSIDE Foods got the regulator's green light for its cultivated chicken breast last November. GOOD Meat plans to initially sell its product at restaurants owned by chef José Andrés, known for his work on global food security. Cultivated meat companies say the product provides environmental benefits because it could cut down on the 14.5% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions derived from livestock.

On his new TV show, celebrated chef José Andrés goes into a restaurant kitchen in Spain and confronts a massive moray eel. “Nothing can be more simple and more sophisticated at the same time.”That eel is just one delicious moment in Discovery+’s “José Andrés and Family in Spain,” which follows the chef, restaurateur and humanitarian on a food tour through his homeland with his three American-raised daughters, Carlota, Inés and Lucia Andrés. The elder Andrés — who has drawn attention to Spanish food and helped put a spotlight on humanitarian disasters with his World Central Kitchen — can hardily contain himself. “Happiness happens when you mix different people and different colors and different places all in one plate,” José Andrés says onscreen. “Spain is the excuse,” says José Andrés.
Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos recently said he plans to give away the “majority” of his fortune. Bezos’ comments were made in an interview with CNN on Saturday, when he said he plans to use his wealth to fight climate change and to support societal “unifiers.” Bezos is worth about $124 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. “The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way,” Bezos told CNN. The Giving Pledge was started by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Bezos committed $10 billion dollars to the Bezos Earth Fund in 2020, and by October 2021 had given away $947 million through the same.
Though Bezos’ vow was light on specifics, this marks the first time he has announced that he plans to give away most of his money. “I just feel honored to be able to be a part of what they’re doing for this world,” Bezos told CNN. Bezos has committed $10 billion over 10 years, or about 8% of his current net worth, to the Bezos Earth Fund, which Sánchez co-chairs. The economic downturnWhile Bezos and Sánchez plot out their plans for Bezos’ immense wealth, many people of more modest means are bracing for what economists fear may be an extended economic downturn. CNN recently reported that Bezos and Jay-Z are in talks on a potential joint bid on the Washington Commanders.
CNN —Dolly Parton is the latest recipient of the Bezos Courage and Civility Award. “We can’t wait to see all the good that you’re going to do with this $100 million award, @DollyParton.”Parton, who has donated to various causes for decades, publicly thanked Bezos and Sanchez on Twitter. I will do my best to do good things with this money,” Parton tweeted. Among her philanthropic efforts in her home state of Tennessee, Parton also created the Dolly Parton Scholarship, which provides $15,000 to recipients towards a college education. Last year, Bezos awarded $100 million each to CNN contributor Van Jones and chef José Andrés.
