Nikki Haley is instructive. But nowhere does it talk in depth about policy or what the Koch brothers’ organization represents within the Republican coalition. What makes Haley interesting in this race is not, in fact, her position in the polls but her position in the party. Haley was, after all, Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations, an interesting position for someone who so sharply diverges from Trump’s ostensibly non-interventionist foreign policy. Or maybe it’s Haley, the standard-bearer for a more inclusive Republican Party, defined by her identities as a woman and Indian-American.

The political network largely financed by billionaire Charles Koch endorsed former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley for president Tuesday, boosting her primary campaign against the Republican front-runner, former President Donald Trump. The Haley endorsement by the Koch-backed super PAC Americans for Prosperity Action marks the end of a yearlong search for a viable Republican alternative to challenge Trump. Americans for Prosperity Action has already spent millions of dollars so far bashing Trump this cycle, arguing that he would lose a general election to President Joe Biden.

Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump waves at the crowd after speaking during a 2024 presidential campaign rally in Dubuque, Iowa, U.S. September 20, 2023. After spending roughly $1 million on anti-Trump ads in Iowa, the Republican Accountability PAC, for example, concluded in August their money wasn't making a difference. "We have stopped spending money in the primary. Continuing to spend on the primary is essentially a waste of money, said Reed Galen, co-founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project. For Trump and Koch, it represents the latest chapter in the on again, off again relationship between the two parties. The theme of the ads is simple: Trump can't win, and with Trump as the Republican nominee, President Joe Biden will be reelected. The ads have landed the Koch network squarely on Trump's list of enemies, literally. "Club for No Growth and Koch Brothers operations spending tens of millions of dollars to prop up Ron DeSantis while attacking President Trump," the July 17 memo claimed. But neither the Koch network nor the Club for Growth has endorsed a Republican primary candidate.

It was unclear what proportion of the $70 million raised by Americans for Prosperity Action, the Koch network super PAC, will go directly to tackling Trump. News of the $70 million raised was first reported by the New York Times on Thursday. The Koch-backed network of political organizations was founded by Charles and his brother David Koch, who died in 2019. The Koch network has yet to back a candidate, but has joined other big Republican donors in scrambling to try to defeat Trump. The Koch network intends to make an endorsement before the Iowa caucus in early 2024, the AFP official said.

The political network established by the conservative industrialists Charles and David Koch has raised more than $70 million for political races as it looks to help Republicans move past Donald J. Trump, according to an official with the group. With some of this large sum to start, the network, Americans for Prosperity Action, plans to throw its weight into the G.O.P. The network spent nearly $500 million supporting Republican candidates and conservative policies in the 2020 election cycle alone. Two groups closely affiliated with Charles Koch contributed $50 million of the more than $70 million that has been raised. Mr. Koch is a major shareholder in Koch Industries, which contributed $25 million to Americans for Prosperity Action, according to a preliminary draft of Federal Election Commission filings.

The political network financed largely by billionaire Charles Koch is launching a wave of digital ads targeting former President Donald Trump. The ads argue that if Trump becomes the Republican nominee next year, it will lead to President Joe Biden winning reelection. One of the spots, titled "Only Way," has a voiceover saying, "The only way Biden wins is if we nominate Trump again." All of the Koch digital ads cite public polling that say how key voters don't want Trump to be president again. The ads are also targeting voters at a tumultuous moment for Trump.

But the former president just can't stop himself from writing Truth Social posts about DeSantis. Trump wrote. The Truth Social spree came after Trump tried to appear unbothered by DeSantis. On February 13, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he doesn't spend much time thinking about his rival at all, as Insider's Kimberly Leonard reported. It's clear Trump sees DeSantis as a real threatDonald Trump and Ron DeSantis.
Billionaire George Soros slammed Donald Trump during a speech on Thursday. He called Trump a "pitiful figure" who is driven by narcissism and is losing GOP support. Soros expects Ron DeSantis to beat him in 2024, but said Trump could run as a third-party candidate. In turn, Trump has proliferated conspiracy theories about him. The billionaire has become a bogeyman for the right, with bizarre conspiracy theories accusing him of secretly controlling the global economy.
Jason Miller will advise Donald Trump on the strategy of his 2024 presidential bid. He previously left the Trump campaign to become CEO of the right-wing social media platform Gettr. Miller is joining a team that is struggling to generate the same excitement as past campaigns. "It was always a matter of when and not if I returned to help re-elect President Trump in 2024," Miller said in a statement, per Politico. Former Trump White House press aide Sarah Matthews described the campaign launch in a tweet as "low-energy" and "uninspiring."
WASHINGTON—A group funded by billionaire Charles Koch will work to support a Republican presidential nominee other than Donald Trump, concluding in a strategy memo that “we need to turn the page on the past.”The organization, Americans for Prosperity, has stayed out of the last two presidential cycles but has concluded it needs to engage now as Mr. Trump mounts his third consecutive White House run. The memo released Sunday doesn’t mention the former president by name but is unambiguous in its purpose.
The donor network created by Charles Koch seeks to boost its role in the GOP presidential primaries. The message is seen as a veiled swipe at Trump, who is running for the GOP nomination in 2024. However, the network has largely stayed out of presidential primaries after identifying five approved candidates in 2015, all of whom ultimately fell to Trump the next year. While the Koch network disagreed with Trump on his implementation of trade tariffs during his White House tenure, it did work with the administration on criminal justice reform efforts. Nikki Haley of South Carolina is expected to enter the race on February 15, but at the moment, Trump remains the only major declared candidate seeking the GOP presidential nomination.

The group, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), has not previously supported candidates in presidential elections but said in the memo the best thing for the country would be to have a president in 2025 who "represents a new chapter." "The Republican Party is nominating bad candidates who are advocating for things that go against core American principles. This means the country is in a downward spiral, with both parties reinforcing the bad behavior of theother." Former president Trump is so far the only announced Republican candidate, although former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is expected to kick off her campaign for the nomination this month. Koch unit Georgia-Pacific used a corporate bankruptcy maneuver known as the Texas two-step, forming a new Texas subsidiary, Bestwall, that took on the company's asbestos liability. The latest court documents, filed on Wednesday, provide new detail about how Koch has benefited from the case. Koch has received more than $5 billion since Bestwall filed for bankruptcy in 2017. Representatives for New Georgia-Pacific and Koch Industries did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday. New Georgia-Pacific's shareholder equity is forecast to be about $27.8 billion after accounting for the Koch dividends, according to the Wednesday court filing.
Naturally, Elon Musk, the platonic ideal of the peculiar self-aggrandizing, self-parodying personality type that thrived during the Trump years and peaked during the pandemic, tops this list. By 2022, the media had pronounced him variously the next Warren Buffett, J.P. Morgan and Charles Koch. "bye bye @trussliz Congrats to lettuce", tweeted Putin's one-time stand-in Dmitry Medvedev, to which Elon Musk could not resist replying, "pretty good troll tbh." Elon Musk speaks at the 2020 Satellite Conference and Exhibition in March 2020. Elon MuskIt's weird to recall now that Elon Musk once seemed like, graded on the billionaire curve anyway, a net positive for a cursed American society.

The think tank said that the relief will hurt their hiring efforts by undermining public servant loan forgivenessThis is at least the sixth major conservative lawsuit filed attempting to block debt cancellation. As a nonprofit organization, Cato's case claims that canceling student debt broadly for federal borrowers would remove the appeal of PSLF and stunt recruiting efforts. Biden and his administration remain adamant they have the standing to carry out this debt relief. The administration has not yet commented on Cato's suit and recommends borrowers continue to apply for debt relief before payments resume early next year.
