AMD reported fourth-quarter earnings on Tuesday that were in line with analyst expectations, while the company's revenue beat estimates, but AMD offered a first-quarter forecast that fell short of expectations. It said that its data center revenue would be flat as server chip declines would be offset by AI GPU sales. Net income in the fourth quarter was $667 million, or $0.41 per share, versus $21 million, or $0.01 per share a year ago. AMD gave a positive update on its AI chips sales. Data center, which includes server CPUs and AI chips, rose 38% on an annual basis to $2.28 billion in sales.

Microsoft reported strong fiscal second-quarter results Tuesday, boosted by the strength of AI. Cloud unit Azure was better than expected thanks to organizations running AI applications on its cloud. That's double from last quarter as Azure AI customers grew to 53,000 from more than 18,000 last quarter. What's fascinating about Azure AI is that over one-third of its customers are completely new to Azure, according to Microsoft, highlighting the importance every organization has in understanding its AI strategy. Microsoft guided Productivity and Business Processes revenues to $19.3 billion to $19.6 billion, ahead of the consensus of $19.45 billion.

But elevated expectations for AI chip growth has led Northland Capital Markets analyst Gus Richard to admit that he's not sure where AMD shares should go from here. "We downgrade on valuation to 'a heck if we know' rating," Richard wrote in a note on Monday. Richard's call is based on his view that investor expectations for AI chip growth have spilled into "irrational exuberance." AMD shares fell about 3.5% to $168.17 as of Monday afternoon. Nvidia shares were up less than 1%.

Lisa Su displays an AMD Instinct MI300 chip as she delivers a keynote address at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Jan. 4, 2023. Tom O'Malley, an analyst at Barclays, raised his price target on AMD to $200 from $120, saying AMD could post $4 billion in AI chip sales this year. KeyBanc analysts also increased their price target for AMD to $195 and Nvidia to $740 on Tuesday, due to strong demand for AI servers. Nvidia , which has the vast majority of the market for AI chips and was the best-performing stock in the S&P 500 last year, advanced 3% to $563.82. Robots of all kinds caused a stir on the show floor this week at the annual CES technology trade show in Las Vegas. The types of casino union jobs at risk could look drastically different five years from now, for example, when the Culinary Union's contract ends. We are filling the need in the market and we are bringing specialty coffee to more places.”But Werner said AI poses a real threat to casino union jobs that don’t require face-to-face interaction with customers — housekeeping, food preparation and cooks, for example. That's especially true for a people-pleasing tourist destination like the Las Vegas Strip, where customers expect top-notch service and experiences, including the latest trends in technology. That makes Las Vegas “a good place to test these things and see how customers react to it," he said.

Walmart is starting to use AI to figure out how often you order groceries and order them for delivery. Walmart customers can set up deliveries of essentials at regular intervals, a service the big box chain started offering last year. The company started offering InHome delivery in 2019. New York CNN —Walmart is joining the AI, drone and tech race. The superstore announced that it is offering drone delivery for up to 75% of the Dallas area’s population, or about 1.8 million homes. But drone delivery as a concept isn’t new, and Walmart’s timeline to take off in Dallas is remarkably short. Normally, customers who need to shop for a Super Bowl party search for items on the Walmart app individually, the company said. Walmart also announced advancements in its InHome service, which it debuted in 2019 to deliver groceries straight into customer’s refrigerators.

Another signer of the letter, Republican Representative Elise Stefanik, said, "Autel drones made in Communist China present an unacceptable national security risk and should not be allowed to operate in America." Over 50% of drones sold in the United States are made by DJI, and they are the most popular drones in use by public safety agencies, Republican lawmakers said earlier this year.

REUTERS/Steve Marcus/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 17 (Reuters) - Amazon.com (AMZN.O) on Friday announced it is trimming jobs at its Alexa voice assistant unit, citing shifting business priorities and a greater focus on generative artificial intelligence. Many companies are shifting resources to generative AI, which can create software code and lengthy text responses from short prompts. Alexa is a voice assistant that can be used to set timers, ask search queries, play music, or as a home automation hub. In particular, people familiar with the matter pointed to the Alexa voice assistant, now nearly a decade old, as having failed to keep pace in the age of generative artificial intelligence. The Seattle-based online retailer's voice assistant products compete with offerings from Alphabet (GOOGL.O) and Apple (AAPL.O).

Like hurricanes, blizzards or wildfires, Taylor Swift is now prompting an airline to waive ticket-change fees. The Chie-based carrier said it is waiving both ticket-change fees and differences in fare if travelers can fly anytime until Nov. 17 after Swift's show at Argentina's largest stadium was postponed. Some customers complained to LATAM on social media, however, that they were having trouble finding seats and that the carrier told them about the waiver too late. The airline didn't immediately comment on whether it is adding additional flights. While it might be a new era for airline waivers, The Eras Tour has impacted other industries like hotels.

SEOUL, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Hyundai Motor Group's air taxi unit Supernal plans to build a manufacturing facility in the United States to make flying electric taxis for commuters, the South Korean auto group said on Wednesday. Electric air taxi-makers worldwide have pitched themselves as clean alternatives to decongest cities, attracting investment from airline heavyweights such as Delta Air Lines Inc (DAL.N) though they are still a long way away from commercial operations. Shin said the eVTOL taxi would be capable of flying at 120 mph (193 kph) and have capacity for a pilot and four passengers, targeting December 2024 for a test flight. Hyundai Motor, Kia Corp (000270.KS) and Hyundai Mobis (012330.KS), have together invested 1.2 trillion won ($915.70 million) in Washington-based Supernal since its establishment in 2021, according to regulatory filings. Last month, Hyundai Motor Group signed an agreement with Korean Air Lines (003490.KS) to work together to accelerate the design of electric eVTOL vehicles and air mobility ecosystem in South Korea.
