Simeon Hyman, ProShares' global investment strategist who manages the largest bitcoin futures ETF, the ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) that launched in October 2021, noted that bitcoin futures ETFs have tracked bitcoin "fairly well." Dec 4 (Reuters) - Pando Asset AG, a digital asset management firm based in Switzerland, last week became the latest issuer to submit an application to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to launch an exchange-traded fund (ETF) tied to spot bitcoin prices. Pando becomes the 13th company vying for a share of what the cryptocurrency world believes could become a multi-billion dollar product, SEC filings showed. Others range from asset management giants like BlackRock and Fidelity to more specialized ETF providers like ARK Investments. Pando is a latecomer to the U.S. spot bitcoin race, but already has three other spot crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) on the SIX Swiss Exchange. Its ETF proposal included Bank of New York Mellon as the administrator of the Pando Asset Spot Bitcoin Trust.

The key catalyst for stocks will likely continue to be the expected trajectory of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. In September, historically the weakest month for stocks, the S&P 500 fell nearly 5%. The S&P 500 gained nearly 9% gain in November, historically a strong month for the index. Overall, December has been the second-best month for the S&P 500, with the index up an average of 1.54% for the month since 1945, according to CFRA. Many other names have languished: The equal-weighted S&P 500, whose performance is not skewed by big tech and growth stocks, is up around 6% in 2023.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration Acquire Licensing RightsOct 26 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has eight to 10 filings of possible exchange-traded products for bitcoin in front of it for consideration, SEC Chair Gary Gensler said Thursday. Bitcoin has rallied this week on speculation that SEC approval is imminent for a spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) - seen as a driver of demand because it would allow investors to obtain direct exposure to the cryptocurrency via an exchange-listed product. To date, the SEC has approved only ETFs tied to bitcoin futures contracts. Anticipation around spot ETFs has been rising after the SEC opted not to appeal a court ruling it had been wrong to reject an application from Grayscale Investments to convert its existing bitcoin trust into a spot bitcoin ETF.

Cathie Wood's Ark fund and 21Shares are planning America's first spot ether ETF. They filed an SEC application Wednesday as a race to create spot bitcoin ETFs gets underway. The ARK 21Shares ethereum ETF promises a safer way to trade the second-largest cryptocurrency. Many regard that decision as helping pave the way for spot bitcoin ETFs. Cathie Wood, Founder, CEO, and CIO of ARK Invest, speaks at the 2022 Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California, U.S., May 2, 2022. REUTERS/David Swanson Acquire Licensing RightsSept 6 (Reuters) - Cathie Wood's Ark Invest and crypto investment firm 21Shares are seeking regulatory approval to set up an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that would directly hold ether, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Wednesday. The case has been closely watched by the cryptocurrency and asset management industries, which have been trying for years to convince the SEC to approve a spot bitcoin ETF. Cboe Global Markets earlier this year filed a proposal with the U.S. SEC to list and trade shares of a spot bitcoin ETF by Ark Invest and 21Shares on the Cboe BZX exchange. The regulator has in recent years rejected dozens of applications for spot bitcoin ETFs, citing inadequate levels of trading surveillance that could leave the underlying spot market subject to fraud and manipulation.

The case has been closely watched by the cryptocurrency and asset management industries, which have been trying for years to convince the SEC to approve a spot bitcoin ETF. While the agency has rejected spot bitcoin ETFs, it has approved bitcoin futures ETFs, which track agreements to buy or sell bitcoin at a pre-agreed price. Grayscale argued that the bitcoin futures ETF surveillance arrangements should also be satisfactory for Grayscale's spot ETF, since both products rely on bitcoin's underlying price. Bitcoin futures ETFs track bitcoin futures that trade on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), the chief venue for those products. The court's panel of judges said Grayscale showed that its proposed bitcoin ETF is "materially similar" to the approved bitcoin futures ETFs.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Aug 18 (Reuters) - A swift sell-off in technology stocks and surge in Treasury yields are punishing Cathie Wood's flagship ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK.P), leaving the closely followed fund down more than 20% for the month of August. Much of the gains for the year came as inflation concerns ebbed and longer-duration Treasury yields subsided. Yet signs of strength in the U.S. economy have helped push 10-year Treasury yields up nearly 30 basis points this month to 10-month highs and within inches of their highest levels since 2007. Higher yields often weigh heavily on technology stocks by decreasing the value of their future profit. August has been particularly challenging for the fund, which has lost ground every trading day but two this month.

The filing has since been amended several times and now includes a surveillance-sharing provision that was introduced in BlackRock's filing for a bitcoin fund. HONG KONG/TAIPEI, July 21 (Reuters) - Investors are putting aside geopolitical tensions to pile in to Taiwan stocks, with foreign inflows the biggest in years, thanks to soaring artificial intelligence and chipmaking stocks. Rather, investors say it's all the more sturdy as the bogged-down conflict deters Chinese action and risks can be managed by keeping positions liquid with one eye on a possibly quick exit. "A potential escalation of events in the Taiwan Strait down the line is less relevant for these investors," he said. "So that makes Taiwan’s AI supply chain very attractive for foreign investors, and we believe their fund inflows will continue to be strong throughout the year." Investors say Taiwan's market is uniquely positioned to benefit because it is exposed to the sector's growth from applications to components, where demand is rebounding.

NEW YORK, July 12 (Reuters) - The flagship fund of star stockpicker Cathie Wood hit an 11-month high Wednesday, extending a rally that has been powered by bets that inflation would fall rapidly and benefit the sort of speculative technology stocks she is known for. The $8.4 billion ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK.P) rose 0.6% in morning trading Wednesday to its highest level since August 2022. Wood's fund was among the worst-performing U.S. equity funds overall in 2022 as she continued to downplay the impact of inflation and said that deflation would be the larger issue driving markets. Lower interest rates help unprofitable or other early-stage companies by lowering their borrowing costs and increasing the value of future profits. "Anything that puts interest rate hikes at bay is definitely positive for any small-cap or speculative tech stock," he said.

Asset management giant Fidelity Investments is again trying to launch a spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund, according to a Thursday filing. The move comes two weeks after BlackRock filed for a spot bitcoin ETF, which has long been opposed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Cathie Wood's Ark Invest filed for changes to its proposed bitcoin fund Wednesday that brought it closer in line with BlackRock's application. One of the SEC's key concerns about a spot bitcoin product is transparency in the market and the potential for manipulation. The digital currency was trading near $30,500 Thursday afternoon, up from below $26,000 prior to the BlackRock filing.

ARKK YTD mountain ARK Innovation fund Cathie Wood's innovation fund was among the hardest hit vehicles out there as higher interest rates hit sentiment for growth and tech assets. Following a 67% drop last year, the fund is up more than 41% this year as artificial intelligence and stable rates raises interest in the overall tech sector again. The fund is also seen as a high beta way to capitalize on market rallies. The fund closed Friday at $44.31 a share and Bensignor sees the run going a little further.
