Burrage, who accumulated only eight points in the first set, dropped her first service game with a double fault and served another to hand Kasatkina the first set. But her brief flurry was curbed when Kasatkina broke back immediately before the players were ushered off court because of a shower. Kasatkina won the match with another break of serve when Burrage heaved a forehand long. Kasatkina reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2018 and plans to do better this year.

  + stars: | 2023-06-26 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
June 26 (Reuters) - (This June 26 story has been refiled to fix the spelling of 'apologises' in the headline)The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday apologised "unreservedly" to those who faced discrimination in the game after the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket (ICEC) released a report finding evidence of racism across the sport. The report found the cricket boards had failed to prevent "structural and institutional racism, sexism and class-based discrimination", and the ECB acknowledged the need for change. "Cricket should be a game for everyone, and we know that this has not always been the case. Powerful conclusions within the report also highlight that for too long women and Black people were neglected. The hedge fund's founder, Alex Denner, 53, one of three Sarissa candidates running for seats on Alkermes' 11-member board, on Monday said he would give up his board seat at biotech company Biogen (BIIB.O). The move eliminates "any claim of conflict whatsoever," Sarissa wrote to Alkermes shareholders on Tuesday. Alkermes shareholders will vote on directors on June 29 in what is one of the year's five biggest boardroom challenges. A Biogen representative confirmed that the board knew about the relationship between Denner and Langer. Denner, who has served on the Biogen board since 2009 and headed the nominating and governance committee, had nominated Langer.

The Coronation Vestments, comprising of the Supertunica and the Imperial Mantle, which will be worn by Britain's King Charles III during his coronation, displayed in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace, London, on April 26. Victoria Jones-Pool/Getty ImagesBuckingham Palace has revealed some of the historical items King Charles III will don for his coronation ceremony on Saturday, including items previously worn by his mother and grandfather for their own crowning moments. Both items are normally on display in the Tower of London and were last worn by Charles' mother at her coronation. The whole look: The Supertunica was made in 1911 for the coronation of King George V and was later worn by King George VI for his 1937 coronation. When it comes to accessories, King Charles will also have a "Coronation Gauntlet" – effectively a fancy white leather glove, embroidered with national emblems including the Tudor rose, thistle, shamrock, oak leaves and acorns.

Victoria Jones/Pool via REUTERSLONDON, May 1 (Reuters) - Britain's King Charles, who has spent a lifetime campaigning for sustainability and against a throwaway economy, will wear clothing previously worn by his predecessors, including his mother and grandfather, for his coronation next week. Among the vestments to reappear will be the coronation glove made for his grandfather, George VI. "We've got this wonderful, sustainable, eco-friendly king who's reusing something rather than having a new glove," said Deborah Moore, the chief executive of Dents which made the glove with gold embroidery for George VI's 1937 coronation. Over this he will wear the Imperial Mantle, made of cloth of gold and originally produced for the coronation of George IV in 1821.

In addition to Italy, over the last five years, Cook has worked in Kenya, Thailand, and 12 other countries. At the time, startups were the only type of company I found that were open to fully remote work. When I started doing this in 2018, remote working like this wasn't as common as it is now. Now, since more people have access to this life because of remote work, a number of companies have cropped up for this exact kind of thing. There are some 22 million people like Hassan displaced every year in climate-fueled disasters, according to the U.N. International Organization for Migration (IOM). And with climate change fueling increasingly extreme weather worldwide, the number displaced is expected to grow to about 143 million by mid-century. Given the growing need, developing countries at the COP27 climate summit in Egypt this month are demanding that wealthy nations offer more in the way of help. "Each government impacted by climate change migrants can raise the subject" at the U.N. summit, said Caroline Dumas, the IOM's special envoy for migration and climate action. "I'm a refugee, former refugee," said Emtithal Mahmoud, a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR.
Is a Bra a Shirt? These Women Say Yes

Blogger Caroline Daur wears a black bra top at Milan Fashion Week in June. The piece has become as foundational as a T-shirt for some women over the past couple years. NBC executives, willing to go so far as a risqué bra, bolero and harem pants, considered revealing the navel to be one step too far. Now, 50 years after Jeannie paved the way for bra tops in public, non-bottle-dwelling women of all ages and shapes are trying the style. “The bra top is the new T-shirt,” said Eli Mizrahi, the designer of Paris brand Mônot, which launched in 2019 and makes sleek bra tops that first became an unexpected hit during the pandemic.
Penn State's PlantVillage uses technology solutions and field teams to increase farmers' crop yield. As warming temperatures spawn more crop pests, groups, including PlantVillage, are increasingly using artificial intelligence to protect agriculture. Each year, plant diseases cost the global economy more than $220 billion, while invasive insects cost at least $70 billion. The climate crisis increases crop diseases and pests — like the desert locust, which could spread because of warming temperatures. Farmers are encouraged to plant trees with biochar, a soil additive that can store carbon dioxide for centuries.
